Comfort & Joy for the Christmas Season.

In the midst of the 2020 pandemic, when Holiday gatherings felt distant

and spirits needed lifting, the Eileen Hull team came together to

spark creativity and connection.

By sharing festive projects with the Eileen Hull Fan Club and our readers,

we hoped to deliver a dose of comfort and joy to brighten an

otherwise challenging season.

We called it Comfort & Joy.

The idea was a hit, so we decided to continue the tradition.

Winston the Snowman is my “Comfort & Joy” project for this year.

Winston is a snowman with plenty of dimension-

something I absolutely love bringing into my projects!

The Winston Die, designed by Tim Holtz for Sizzix*,

includes an impressive 16 different dies.

Don’t let that number intimidate you, despite all the tiny pieces,

the assembly is surprisingly simple.

Here’s a tip I swear by. When I’m die-cutting small pieces, I run my paper through the Xyron Disposable Sticker Maker* first. This way, the adhesive is already on the back, making it quick and easy to piece everything together.

The Winston Die* uses Colorize technology, which means you get a selection of intricate, paper-layering designs that add incredible detail and dimension. With drop shadows and highlights, you can create a snowman that looks dimensional and full of character. It’s great for cardmaking, scrapbooking, gift tags, and more.

Last month, after our family wiener roast, my sister-in-law

had a bunch of lids left over from the disposable soup containers*.

She asked me if I had a use for them.

Besides being a wonderful tray to hold little dies in my workspace.

I knew it would make a great base for my snowman.

I painted the base with white acrylic paint*.

Once the paint was dry, I added dimensional snow* onto the base with a palette knife*.

To make Winston sturdy on the base, I painted two small wooden cubes

crisp white and used them as hidden support.

Once the paint dried, I glued the cubes to the back of the snowman

and then attached them securely to the finished base.

Doesn’t he make a cute little tabletop decoration?

Using Vintage Frames for Holiday Decorating

Decorate your home with timeless treasures…

I love decorating the house for Christmas using vintage items.

Incorporating vintage pieces into my holiday decor has become

one of my favorite things to do. Whether it’s vintage ornaments

or classic holiday Santas, these items evoke a sense of nostalgia and charm.

It makes everything feel lived in and cozy.

I found the cutest brass-colored metal frame while out treasure hunting

earlier in the year. The color was unique, and I just had to have it.

I have a fondness for collecting great frames for decorating.

While I was looking for the perfect picture to go inside.

I remembered a box of old Christmas cards I was gifted several years ago.

It didn’t take long before I found the perfect Christmas Card for my frame.

This Christmas Card was made by Hallmark, and the date on the envelope

says 1974. (Don’t worry, of course I saved the envelope.)

Frames aren’t the only vintage treasures I love to use.

I’m very sentimental, especially during the holidays.

I like to mix the old with the new.

Each piece has a story and adds warmth to every room.

I hope I’ve inspired you to incorporate your own vintage

treasures into your holiday decor.

Winter Shaker Card with Eileen Hull’s New Sizzix Release

Today is Release Day for Eileen Hull’s newest dies for Sizzix,

and I’m excited to share a couple of projects that I’ve made.

As soon as I saw the sneak peek of what was coming,

I knew I wanted to make a winter shaker card.

So…even though I am hanging onto Summer as hard as I can,

I still am in the mood to make a few Winter cards.

Another project I made was the Winter Deer Tag.

I wanted it to look like a serene winter scene.

I used the Lacy Leaves Embossing Folder* to emboss the first layer of the tag.

I added thin foam mounting squares* under the deer and

green tree to give the tag dimension.

Glass Dome with Silver Pendant Base*
24″ Silver Chain*
Sizzix Effectz Liquid Gloss*
Scrapbook Paper, Old Christmas Card, or Small Photo
Alcohol Wipe*

Directions:

Remove grease or fingerprints from the glass dome using an Alcohol Wipe*.
Place a small amount of Sizzix Effectz Liquid Gloss* on the back of the glass dome.
Place the dome onto the scrapbook paper. Rub the dome around the image to remove any bubbles under the glass.
Allow 5-10 minutes for the liquid gloss to dry.
Cut around the dome with scissors.
Add a small amount of liquid gloss to the base of the pendant and place the dome inside.

3D Silver Snowflake Christmas Tree

How to make 3D Snowflake Christmas Trees.

One of my favorite new Christmas Dies this year is the

3D Snowflake Christmas Tree Die* from Sizzix.

The trees are so easy to make, and you can make a variety of trees

by removing or adding snowflakes.

3D Silver & White Snowflake Christmas Trees

I made the retro-inspired tree using Silver and Red Metallic

Cardstock with silver beads as the spacers. (It’s my favorite!)

These would look adorable on your Christmas table alongside each plate.

3D Snowflake Christmas Tree

To make the 3D Christmas Trees…

Materials Used: (*affiliate links)

#662869 Sizzix Bigz Die-Snowflake Christmas Tree*
Green Cardstock* and Gold Cardstock*
Big Shot Die Cutting Machine*
Thin Wood Stick (Walmart Craft Section for $1.27 for 50)
Small Wood Beads (Hobby Lobby)

Die-cut three sets of green snowflakes.
Die-cut four sets of gold stars and the gold base.
Fold the four gold stars and gold tree bases in half. Glue the four sides together.
Place a little dab of glue on the bottom of the stick and place it in the center of the gold base.
Add a small wood bead onto the stick and alternate beads and snowflakes.
Leaving approximately ½”, cut the excess stick off the top of the tree.
Add a little glue to the top of the stick and add the gold star.

Add some twine to the top of the snowflake tree and hang it as a Christmas Decoration.

DIY Christmas Tree Reusable Gift Bag using StyleTechCraft HTV Vinyl

To make the image for the bag, I used the Farm Fresh Christmas Trees SVG cut file from The Silhouette Design Store.
I sized the image to fit on the bag and cut it out using a Silhouette Cameo Electronic Die Cutting Machine* and StyleTechCraft’s Heat Transfer Vinyl*.

I cut the image out of both red and green HTV vinyl.
I removed the vinyl that I wanted to be green from the red image.
With the green image, I cut out only the pieces that I wanted to use with the red layer.
Make sure to mirror the image and place the shiny side down on the cutting mat.

Position the design on your bag. Use an iron or a heat press* to apply heat and pressure to the design, following the manufacturer’s instructions.
Peel off the clear transfer tape.

for Sue’s 2024 Holiday Paper Crafting Workshop.

I will be doing a second Workshop on Friday, November 8th.

If there is enough interest, we are considering adding a third
