Patriotic Themed Summer Party

Celebrate the Red, White, and Blue!

No matter if your party is big or small.

It’s easy to throw together a Red, White, and Blue Patriotic Themed Summer Party.

Gather up some hotdogs, burgers, and brats for the perfect Summer BBQ Get-Together.

Here are a few Ideas to make the Summer Holidays fun and special.

Grab and Go Party Ware.

Bring Deflecto to your next party.

I used a Deflecto Stackable Caddy Organizer* to hold my tableware and condiments

for easy grab and go.

Bold Stripes and Bright Stars

Every party needs a few yummy desserts.

The 3 Tier Dessert Stand* from Deflecto is perfect for displaying cupcakes and other goodies.

It is easy to put together and folds flat for compact storing.

All three tiers on the stand have holes for holding cake pops.

They were the perfect size for inserting small flags and the handmade banner for the top.

How to make the Banner…

  • Cut two bamboo skewers 6″ each.  Wrap the ends with decorative washi tape.  The washi tape helps keep the skewers securely in place when inserting in the stand.
  • Die-cut or hand-cut 5 banners out of decorative scrapbook paper.
  • Tie a piece of blue and white twine on each end of the bamboo skewers.
  • Fold banners and adhere to the twine.
  • Apply letter stickers on the front of the banners.
  • I used red glitter vinyl and my silhouette die-cutting machine to create the words USA to apply to my banners.
  • Stick on each side of the top tier in the holes made to hold cake pops.

Little details make everything more festive.

Don’t forget to make a few star picks to stick into the cupcakes.

This is a fun project that the kids can help you make.

  • Create the picks by punching or die-cutting several blue and red stars.
  • Add adhesive to the back of the star and place a toothpick in the center.
  • Adhere a second star on the back.
  • For quick and easy work, I used the Xyron Create-A-Sticker* to add adhesive to the stars.
  • Decorative the stars with additional small foil stars.

Add a touch of Vintage Americana with blue Ball mason jars.

They are great for storing straws, and they also make great drinking glasses.

And when the sun starts going down, don’t forget the sparklers and glow in the dark novelties.

“Celebrate” with a Banner made from old blue jeans

Create a banner using Joy Embroidered Iron On Letters and old blue jeans.

When inspiration hits in the middle of the night, it usually ends of being one of my favorite

kind of projects.  (This one  was fun.)

Got any old worn blue jeans ready to be thrown out?

I started with my old blue jeans and 3″ Iron-on Embroidered Varsity Letters from Joy

in red and blue.

I created a 3 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ banner pattern using grid paper and traced it onto the jeans.

To add a little interest…I incorporated the seams from the sides of the jeans to use for the

front of the banner.  For the word “C-E-L-E-B-R-A-T-E”  I cut 9 banners for the front with

seams and 9 plain ones to use to line the back of the banner.

The Iron-on Embroidered Varsity letters are sticky backed so I went ahead and placed

them onto the front of my banners before sewing.

Next came my jar of red ribbon scraps.  (I love red so much, I have a jar just for “red”)

I sewed the ribbon scraps onto the tops of each banner.

I then sandwiched the front with a plain back and simply sewed around each banner with

my sewing machine.  After the third banner, I finally got smart and started using straight pins.

As you can tell, I was going for a casual simple look.  (that’s my story and I’m sticking to it)

After I was finished sewing all my banners, I used my We R Memory Keepers Crop-A-Dile*

to punch two holes.  (I used the 3/16″ sized hole.)

I used We R Memory Keepers Eyelets Cool Metal* (affiliate link) for my eyelets.

Did you know that the  Crop-A-Dile* easily goes through both layers of jeans.

A little Americana for your front porch swing

The quickest way to spruce up the front porch swing for summer is with new pillows.

And if your a little bit handy and have a sewing machine why not try making a few of your own.

When it comes to sewing I’m very simple and it doesn’t get much easier than this.

A simple stenciled and stitched pillow.

Deco Arts has so many 12″ stencils in a variety of patterns, you’re sure to find one you’d love.

  • ADS16 American Tribute Stencil*
  • Americana® Multi-Surface Satin Acrylics: Dark Scarlet, Cotton Ball, Night Sky
  • Splendid Gold Dazzling Metallics® Acrylic Paint

Additional Products:

Directions:

  1. Lay paper under muslin fabric before stenciling.
  2. Center and tape stencil onto muslin with removable painter’s tape so that the stencil won’t move.
  3. Work one color at a time and mask off with painter’s tape the areas that won’t be painted.
  4. Remove the “star section” of the flag using a craft knife and set aside.
  5. Stenciling is a “dry” brush technique. Using a stencil brush, dip just the tip of your brush into the paint. Tap off excess paint before applying to prevent the paint from seeping under the edges of the stencil.
  6. Apply paint with stencil brush in a straight up and down motion called stippling.
  7. Once you’ve added the red, blue and gold colors. Replace the star section of the flag back onto the stencil and stencil the stars with white paint.
  8. Create a simple pillow by sewing the muslin onto the red and cream ticking fabric.
  9. Stuff pillow with Poly-fil®.

Let the fun begin…

It’s Memorial Day, the official start of summer.

The cover has come off the pool and we’re ready to put Winter far behind us.

Time for Baseball, Relaxing and Fun in the Pool.

Serendipity Stamps Sprinkler Card

This stamp image from Serendipity Stamps has always reminded me of my grandson Nicholas.

The long-awaited new sod has finally been laid at Nick’s new house.

Nicholas got in trouble the other day because he couldn’t stay out of the sprinkler.

He’s three, I’m sure it was calling his name.

Let the fun begin…

Happy Memorial Day!
