Farmhouse Style Christmas using Free or Thrifted Items

Earlier this past fall, while walking my dog, I stumbled upon

a guy having an Estate Sale out of a Storage unit.

He came up to me and said that everything was FREE!

He needed to empty the unit so that he could go back home to Arizona.

I quickly took my dog home and picked up a few treasures.

(okay, more than I needed)

A few of my new treasures were this candelabra

and a vintage metal frame.

The candelabra wasn’t in the best shape and kept falling apart.

But it was FREE!!!

The vintage metal frame was silver (which is not quite my style).

But I had an idea of what I wanted to do with the frame.

I gave everything a good cleaning and a light sanding.

I spray-painted both the candelabra and the silver frame

with Rust-oleum Semi-Gloss Black Spray Paint*.

Because the candelabra kept falling apart, I glued it together

with E6000 glue*.  (It worked like a charm.)

I added a Christmas Greeting inside my frame

using Carta Bella’s Winter Wonderland Collection*

I purchased flameless battery taper candles on Amazon*

These came with a remote, which was perfect.

I made small wreaths for each candle using craft pine stems.

I wrapped the craft stem around the base of the candle.

I removed the wreath and manipulated and resized it to

make it the size I wanted.

I made small cream bows and hot glued them onto the bows.

It’s now a cute Farmhouse Style Display to add to my Holiday Decorations.

Simple DIY Patio Side Table from Scraps

Simple DIY Patio Side Table from Scraps

How to make a Simple DIY Patio Side Table from Scraps.

I love a simple, easy, and inexpensive DIY project.

Add in a little recycling, and that makes me super happy.

Simple DIY Patio Side Table from Scraps

We recently had a new deck built using composite decking materials.

When I saw the leftover scraps, I asked them to save a few larger pieces

of the thick wood and composite fascia boards.

(FYI…Fascia boards are the large boards that go around the outside of the deck.)

I knew they would be perfect for a small bench or side table.

The fascia board was the same width as the wood board.

So, I used the wood board scrap as it came.

I asked my husband to cut the fascia board the same length as the wood board.

I stained the wood board using Varathane’s Carbon Grey Stain*

that I had left over from a previous project.

The wood is pretreated. So, I didn’t use a sealer on the wood.

I can always go back and do that later.

We screwed the composite fascia board onto the wood board using decking screws.

I went to a couple of yard sales searching for table legs that I could use,

I wanted it to be a complete recycling project.

After no luck, I purchased these black hairpin legs from Amazon*.

I love how they look, and they go perfectly with the black railing on my new deck.

After marking and measuring the placement of the legs,

we predrilled the screw holes before screwing them onto the wood.

The table went together in a few minutes.

I love using scraps to make something useful.

This table is the perfect side table between a couple of chairs.

A great place to set a drink down.

It’s also sturdy enough to be used as a small bench for one.

Even after spending $20 on the legs,

I still have a very inexpensive custom table.

As my daughter-in-law reminded me,

“you can easily spend $20 or more for a small patio table”.

Upcycled Vintage Paint Palette

Upcycled Vintage Paint Palette

Last year, going through my parents house, we found my mom’s old boards, brushes

and paints.   We also found both of my grandmother’s paints and supplies as well.

In all those treasures my brother found this paint palette.

Old and Cool.  Just my style.

This month the StyletechCraft Design Team was challenged to create an upcycled project

using vinyl.  Because my paint palette is vintage (and special) and I like to change my mind,

I decided to use Matte Removable Vinyl*.   (I’ll have the option to change it out.)

  • For my Vintage Paint Palette Upcycled Project…I used an SVG file and my Silhouette Cameo Wireless Cutting Machine* to cut and create the words “Be Creative”.
  • Using the weeding tool, I carefully removed the negative spaces in and around the letters.

  • Place a piece of Vinyl Transfer Tape* over the letters.  Rub over the letters using a vinyl scraper tool to help the vinyl cling.
  • Apply words onto the paint palette.
  • Remove transfer tape.

With Grandma’s paint supplies, I found this calendar page from 1939

that she used for inspiration.  (80 years ago, WOW!)

I’m currently in the process of turning my son’s old bedroom into a larger craft workshop.

I want to incorporate a little past into that space as well.

I want it to be a warm, inviting, eclectic space.  (Kind of like me)

I think this palette will fit in just fine.
