Deflecto Craft Caddy Challenge…

When I worked in the Deflecto Booth last January at the Creativation Show,

each day of the show Deflecto held a Craft Caddy Challenge.

The challenge was to see who could fill their craft caddy the fastest.

It quickly became extremely competitive. (but fun!)

The challenge looked like so much fun, I decided to create one of my own.

Of course, I wanted to race someone closer to my own speed.

Nick enjoyed the caddy challenge so much that when my nieces came over to swim later,

he challenged them. He was a lot faster by then.

Guest Room Closet Make-Over equals More Crafty Storage

When your grown child moves out and gets married…

sometimes it takes ~~awhile~~ years to get all the ~~crap~~ stuff out of their old room.

After my daughter got married, I decided to make her room into a Guest Room.

Every time they’d make the trip back home, I’d guilt her into taking a little bit

more of her stuff home.

Eventually, I stacked all the remaining stuff neatly in the closet.

When my her little brother entered his teen years and would clean his room…

Where do you think it went? You guessed it, in the Guest Room closet.

This year I finally decided to claim that space for my own.

Have I ever mentioned that I’m a spoiled crafter?

With all the wonderful things I receive in being part of a design team…

I have a lot of stuff that just won’t fit into my 8″ x 10″ office/workshop space.

After a lot of purging and last month’s Neighborhood Garage Sale…

the last of the junk is mostly gone and I’m finally finished. (for now at least)

The first thing I did was after emptying the closet was to add this large

IKEA Kallax Bookcase Room Divider*. (amazon affiliate link)

I forgot to take into consideration the upper shelf brackets when measuring the closet

to make sure the cubby unit would fit. So…instead of just moving the ugly old metal shelf,

we added a nice wood shelf to match. This picture was taken while my husband still had

the doors removed. (sorry about the blurry picture) The doors we’re such a pain to put

back on that I never got a finished picture of the closet with the doors off.

We also got 6 of these Threshold 13″ Fabric Cube Storage Bin* from Target.

I love using bins. Everything’s neatly contained and it looks pretty.

I labeled each bin using these Small Flexible Pouches* and Pear Clips* from Deflecto.

Besides all the extra storage…I now have room for finished albums, camera bag and more.

The space on the side of the unit I use for storing my lighting equipment and tripod.

We also purchased two sets of drawer inserts for the Ikea Kallax Bookcase Room Divider.

(Ikea Insert with 2 drawers, black brown*) I love having the drawer inserts for smaller items.

You may have noticed there’s still a few toys left in the closet. (always a work in progress)

I used the Deflecto Rotating Carousel Organizer* for my Lego storage. (the boys love it)

For now, the Guest Room Closet is done. I will admit that this has been a several month

process. It feels so good to have my extra stuff organized and easy to find.

for the love of reading… “Books for Nick”

My grandson Nick learned to read this year in Kindergarten.

This new ability has renewed his love of books.

Not just any old book will do, it has to be a chapter book.

To keep Nick from rummaging through all the bookshelves…

I created a small book stand for him to use with all the age appropriate books

I’ve saved through the years. (He hasn’t seen it yet, I think he’s going to like it.)

To create Nick’s bookstand…

I used a Square Display Riser* (affiliate link) from a set of 3 acrylic risers I received from

Deflecto as part of my monthly Design Team box.

I covered the outside of the Square Display Riser* with ScotchBlue Platinum Painter’s Tape*.

I sprayed the inside of the Square Display Riser*

with Rust-Oleum Painter’s Touch Multi Purpose Spray Paint*.

I die-cut a scalloped square from black chalkboard vinyl (Sign Tags w/Wet Erase Marker)

and roughed it up with extra fine sandpaper for better paint adhesion.

I then painted the vinyl square with green spray paint.

For the Mini Chalkboard…

I cut a smaller piece of the black chalkboard vinyl and punched holes on each of the four corners to add decorative brads before gluing with Beacon’s Quick Grip Glue* onto the painted scalloped square.
I glued the completed scalloped square onto the Square Display Riser*.
The mini chalkboard is a great place to write encouraging reminders.

Easy DIY Golf Themed Party Ideas

How to Throw a Golf Themed Birthday Party…

We recently celebrated a milestone birthday for my husband,

who is quite the avid golfer.

He’s been playing golf since he was a kid and even caddied as a teen.

It only seemed fitting that we celebrate with a Golf Themed Birthday Party.

Easy DIY Golf Themed Party Ideas

The Centerpiece was quite easy…

I used a cylinder vase from Dollar Tree* along with decorative sand and

inexpensive plastic practice golf balls*.

I cut pennants from red cardstock and glued them onto Bamboo Skewers*,

then added White Chipboard Numbers Stickers*.

Easy Golf Themed Party Ideas

I kept the menu simple with his favorite foods, fried chicken, pasta,

sandwiches, chips and salad.

For fun… I used golf lingo to create little signs to label some of the food.

I used a “free golf clipart” that I found online and customized each sign using

a photo editing site.

To clip the signs onto the serving dishes,

I used Wide Clip Sign Holders* and

The party wouldn’t be complete without a golf themed birthday cake.

I purchased the cute little Pull Back Golf Cart* from Amazon only to find out it was also

available as part of the themed cake from Walmart. (oh well)

The golf cart was a huge hit with both the young and the old.

My husband said he’s keeping this one for himself.

I had to get these “Oh No The Big 60” Candles* for the cake.

The golf themed birthday party was shared with our large and wonderful

extended family on a beautiful, sunny (and cool) evening out in our garage/party

room. I had so much fun planning this special “Par-Tee” for him.

It was easy thanks to a little help from Deflecto Craft Solutions

and purchases from Amazon, Dollar Tree*, Party City and Oriental Trading.

Easter Egg Hunt Sign

I whipped up this cute little sign for our Easter Egg Hunt using a DEFLECT-O Chalkboard Easel*

Simply embellish the easel with stickers and scrapbook paper for a quick DIY project.

Add your message with the chalk marker that comes with the easel.

My Creativation Adventure 2017

It’s been a few weeks since the Creativation Trade Show in Phoenix…

and I’m finally getting around to sharing.

You might want to sit back and grab a cup of coffee. (it’s a long one)

The Creativation Show was a fast, busy few days.

Getting the opportunity to see old friends, meeting in person online friends you’ve known for years.

And the best part making new friends.

Creativation, for me, is more than seeing the latest and greatest in the Creative Industry

(although that’s great too)

it’s about the opportunity to meet and network with people from all over the world.

When you’re at a show like this, you sit by a stranger on the convention bus and talk the whole way.

You go to lunch by yourself and instead of looking for a empty table, you sit with a group or

a table of one and the conversations flow. That’s where we share ideas and inspiration.

We ask… “what did you see that excited you?”

During one of those conversations I heard someone say this is where our “tribe” is.

(The cactus in front of my hotel.)

This was my first trip to Phoenix and the first time this Midwest gal saw cactus this large.

Can you tell I was impressed?

I wish I would of been able to see more of Phoenix, it poured the first evening I was there

and the sun didn’t come out until the last day. Most of the time, it really didn’t matter as it was

dark outside when I left and it was dark when I got back to the hotel.

I didn’t even notice the mountains out my hotel window until the second day.

I left the hotel before 7:00 on Saturday morning to take a class before working all day

in the Deflecto booth. We made mini desk calendars using Deflecto’s 3″ x 4″ clear acrylic

frames, paper from Paper House Productions “One Big Happy Family” collection and cute

little calendars from Taylored Expressions.

Also in the booth was the “Caddy Challenge”. ↓

Each challenger was given two empty caddies and a variety of craft supplies.

Every caddy container had to have at least one craft item and put back into the caddy,

each layer had to be locked and put on the base.

The whole thing was timed and the timer stopped when the caddy was lifted.

It was so much fun watching how competitive it became. (there were Visa gift cards at stake)

Co-worker against co-worker, friend against friend, husband against wife.

SO…What’s NEW at Deflecto?

An interlocking wheel base for the craft caddy and the Interlocking Marker Organizer.

Right next to the Deflecto Booth were my good friends at

Canvas Corp Brands, 7Gypsies and Tattered Angels.

So many new things there. They introduced their new line called “Architextures”.

I can’t wait to get my hands on all that vintage inspired goodness.

A lot of mixed media potential.

On Sunday afternoon, I got to hang out in the Paper House booth where I helped attendees make

the Discover USA travel mini book project. I’m so lucky to work in such a fun industry.

Monday was the last day of the show and a half day for me.

After working in the booths all day on Saturday and Sunday,

I decided I needed to take some time to do something fun.

DecoArt, 3M and Pinspiration had a clear acrylic booth set up called the “Splatter Room”.

Dressed in a hazmat suit and goggles…

I went to town choosing paint and splattering onto a 12″ x 12″ canvas.

Oh, what a glorious mess. It was the highlight of my day.

After painting and splattering…

I walked the show floor, taking pictures and making connections.

I always wish that I would have taken more pictures and maybe even a video or two.

Time at these shows go fast and I needed to make the most of that time.

Probably one of the most photographed booths is the Tim Holtz Idea-ology booth.

For Vintage lovers this is serious eye-candy.

Somehow my camera setting got changed and I didn’t get a lot of sharable pictures of the Sizzix booth.

And the always impressive Graphic 45 Booth. ↓

Of all the wonderful things I saw, do you want to know what impressed me the most?

Let me start by saying, I’ve been a stamper for 20 years and it takes a lot to impress me…

the clear animated stamps from Uchis Design did just that. (it’s the simple things)

a little Valentine Love

When I flipped over the calendar this morning it hit me.

Less than 2 weeks until Valentine’s Day.

After all these years…

it’s still fun to throw a few hearts around to make sure he doesn’t forget.

I created this cute little Valentine’s decoration using a clear 4″ x 6″

acrylic craft frame from Deflecto Craft Solutions, scrapbook paper and stickers.

The sticker in the middle says “I belong with you & you belong with me”.

I think he’ll get the hint.

Creativation…Here I come

In just one more day…

I’ll be heading out to (hopefully sunny) Phoenix to the Creativation Show

to see the latest and greatest in the Craft and Hobby Industry.

I’m a little excited to say the least.

The last time I attended a Winter Show, I got stranded in Los Angeles for two extra days

while the Midwest was pummeled with snow. (good thing snows not in the forecast)

I will be working in the Deflecto booth all day on Saturday doing make and takes

and in the Paper House Productions on Sunday afternoon.

I will also have time for a few classes, walking the show floor and taking pictures.

Next week, after I have time to process it all, I’ll share my experience here with you.

Planning on Getting Organized

If I were the type to make New Years Resolutions…

One of my goals would be to GET ORGANIZED.

Now that he house is a bit calmer and my to-do list quite a bit shorter,

I’ve been able to work in my office again.

It feels good sitting down, organizing my thoughts, throwing away old notes…

Planning for the New Year.

I’m a planner, a list maker.

I love the clean slate that a new calendar gives.

One of the ways I like to organize is by giving items a “home”.

By putting “like” items together everything starts making sense.

This 4 Drawer Stackable Cube Organizer* works great for small items on my desk or anywhere

I might need a little organization. Great in the kitchen, bathroom and even the garage.

For fun, I personalized my organizer by adding buffalo plaid scrapbook paper around the outside

and labeling each drawer with chalkboard stickers.

I even made myself a mini desk calendar using a 3″ x 4″ clear acrylic stand, leftover scrapbook

and a cute little calendar from Taylored Expressions.

Even my coffee mug matches.

Did I mention I love Buffalo Plaid?

I’m happy when everything is neatly organized. (not that it always is)

Next up is the closet in my guest room where I keep the extra design team product that

won’t fit in my tiny little office/workspace.
