Celebrating You

How to make a Celebrating You Gift Card.

I love it when I can use a tool or die set in several different ways.

I think the Sizzix Floral Pockets & Paperclips Die Set by Eileen Hull* is one of those.

And I haven’t even made everything you can make with this set.

I used the Floral Square Die included in the set and die-cut it several times.

  • I die-cut it once using cream cardstock for the cream frame.
  • I adhered a small piece of blue parchment cardstock to the back of the cream floral base.
  • I die-cut it using green cardstock and cut off the outside edges that make the frame.  I glued the green layer onto the cream layer.
  • For added dimension, I cut three flowers out of pink cardstock.  I glued all three flowers together and then glued them onto the green flower.
  • I used maroon cardstock to die-cut three centers for the inside of the flower.

  • I adhered the floral die-cut onto a pink cardstock layer.  I added foam mounting squares to the back of the pink layer to give the card added dimension.
  • I used a Silver Calligraphy Paint Pen* to draw a silver edge onto the maroon cardstock layer.
  • I stamped the words “celebrating you” (from the Fan Favorites Stamp Set*) onto a small piece of cream cardstock and gave it a simple layer.  I added Foam Mounting Squares* to the back of the word layer and added to the front of the card.

For another quick project, I made a Four Seasons Gift Card Set.

The 10-piece die set* also includes dies to make pockets, tags,

birds, paper clips, labels, notes, and lists.  It’s a very versatile die set.

Family Game Night DIY Mini Storage Box

Family Game Night

The people in my family love to play games.

When we get the whole big group together for a Family Dinner,

someone usually brings out the dice.

Everyone crowds around the table, and we play a game or two.

Dice is one of their favorite games because even young kids can play along.

(that is until they get bored and leave)

For fun, I made a small box just the right size for holding

a deck of cards and a set of dice.

Inside the box, there is enough space to add a small pencil

and paper for keeping score.

To Make the Box:

  • Gently fold the scored edges and tabs of the mat board.
  • Adhere the box together using 3/8″ Scor-Tape*.
  • If the white core of the mat board bothers you, go around the edges of the mat board with a brown marker to hide the white core.

I added the word “Memories to the spine of the box.

Isn’t making memories what it’s all about?

I used a strip of faux leather paper, and a simple snap to

hold the box closed when not in use.

I used an older Holiday Collection from Simple Stories for my Gift Box.

But the new Simple Stories Vintage Holly Jolly Collection* would also

be an adorable collection to use.  That’s what I love about this project.

It’s so easy to personalize it to your style.

Hello Fall Mini Album

The New Sizzix Mini Album by Eileen Hull* creates a 5” x 5” x 1” Mini-Album.  The die is a Scoreboard die specially designed to cut and score thick material. And it cuts in one pass- so easy and quick! You can also use this die to cut the pages that go inside.

I added a flip book on one side of the album and a small signature book on the other.

Hello Fall Mini Album

It’s a great little album for adding Fall Memories.

Christmas Ornament Card

Ornament Card

When I saw the New Sizzix Charms 6-piece Thinlit Die Set*,

I knew I had to make them into ornaments for a Christmas Card.

Wine Glass Charms

Wine Glass Charms

The Charms Die Set* also made these super cute Wine Glass Charms.

I cut them using Sizzix Shrink Plastic*.  Once they were cut, I made the top hole a little bigger with a 1/8th hole punch* and then used a heat tool* to shrink them.  I color them using Decocolor paint markers*.

Damasked Embossed Watercolor Card

Damask Embossed Watercolor Card

I used the New Large Floral Damask Embossing Folder* to emboss white cardstock.  I water colored on top of the raised areas for a simple floral damask.

I made a coordinating charm for the top of the card using the Charms Die Set*.

Red and White Embossed Damask Card

Red and White Embossed Damask Card

For the Red and White Embossed Damask Card, I used a red dye ink pad and rubbed it over the floral damask embossing folder* before embossing.  Once it was run through the Big Shot Machine* it transferred the red ink to the background of the paper.  I water colored the center with yellow ink.

Mini Chest of Drawers for Little Essentials

Mini Chest of Drawers using the Sizzix Stacking Drawers Die by Eileen Hull

“Eileen Hull’s Top-Drawer Challenge”

This month, the Eileen Hull Design Team was challenged to make

something using the Sizzix Stacking Drawers Die designed by Eileen*.

I LOVE MAKING MINIATURES!

So, true to my “miniature-loving” self, I made a Mini Chest of Drawers

for the Little Essentials that I have sitting on my desk.

Little Gift Box made with the Sizzix Stacking Drawers Die by Eileen Hull.

To make the Mini Chest of Drawers…

Mini Chest of Drawers using the Sizzix Stacking Drawers Die by Eileen Hull

  • I painted the Mat Board* and small wood cubes with Apple Barrel Black Multi-Surface Acrylic Paint* before I assembled the box.
  • Fold the matboard and adhere to the ends of the die-cut using Scor-Tape*.
  • FYI…Place the drawer bottom inside drawer so that the drawer slides more easily.  (You can also rub a piece of clear wax on the bottom of the drawer.)
  • Adhere the two boxes together.
  • Retouch the paint if necessary.

  • I measured and cut side and top pieces for my dresser using Mat Board*.
  • I painted the Mat Board* black and cut smaller pieces of woodgrain scrapbook paper to adhere to the Mat Board*.

  • One trick I like to use is to color the edge of the paper with a dark gray marker to hide the white core of the paper.
  • Cut the back off the decorative brads and glue them to the front of the drawers.

  • I cut an extra layer of mat board for the top of the dresser for added dimension.

If you have a little girl in your life,

the mini dresser would be great for little barrettes or even Barbie shoes.

Bait & Tackle Gift Box

Bait & Tackle Gift Box

DIY Bait & Tackle Gift Box.

Create a miniature tackle box gift box for the Fisherman in your life.

The Bait and Tackle Gift Box is a clever little box made using the

Sizzix Treasure Box Die by Eileen Hull*.

Bait & Tackle Gift Box

Directions:

  • Die-cut the pieces to make the treasure box using the Sizzix Treasure Box Die* and Sizzix Mat Board*.  You will need to cut two of everything.
  • I wanted this box to be shorter so that the dimensions looked more like a tackle box.  I adapted the box by cutting 1″ off the top of the die-cut sides before adhering it together.  (If I were to make this box again, I would probably cut an extra 1/2″ off.)
  • Use Scor-Tape* on the scored tabs and assemble the box lid and bottom.
  • I wanted my box to have fewer seams, so I applied Embossing Paste* with a Palette Knife* over the edges of the box and smoothed it.  Allow the embossing paste to dry before painting.

  • I attached the lid to the box with two small brass hinges* that I distressed with black paint.
  • I used small black mini brads to attach the hinges instead of screws.

  • I die-cut the “label” using the Sizzix Mini Book Die* to create the handle for the box.
  • The handle is made from faux leather paper.  (leather would be good also)
  • Attach the handle to the box using black mini brads.

How to use the Watercolor Flowers & Lattice Stencil

Since I don’t have the New Tool* yet, I thought I would show you how I used the stencils without the tool.

How to use the Watercolor Flowers & Lattice Stencil:

  • I started with a Watercolor Paper* base for my card front.
  • Cut the paper longer than the stencil.
  • Center and tape the stencil onto the paper.
  • Using a pencil, fill in the holes to create a guide to line up the remaining stencils.

How to use the Watercolor Flowers & Lattice Stencil

Stencil #1 Lattice Background

  • Line up the holes of the lattice stencil with the pencil guide marks.
  • Put a piece of tape to hold the stencil in place.
  • Rub an Ink Applicator* over the Gathered Twigs Distress Inkpad*.  I wanted a subtle background, so I rubbed some of the ink onto scrap paper before using it on the stencil.
  • Remove stencil.

A Little Gift Box using the Stacking Drawer Die*.

Earlier this month, Sizzix and Eileen Hull re-released the Stacking Drawer Die

along with several other dies.  (you can see the original post here)

While there are several ways to use this die,

I thought the Stacking Drawers* would also make a perfect little gift box.

To make the gift box…

  • I like to paint the mat board with Deco Art Multi-Media Acrylic Paint* before I assemble the box.
  • Fold the matboard and adhere to the ends of the die-cut using a Strong Double-Sided Tape*.
  • Retouch the paint if necessary.
  • FYI…If you use a thinner mat board for the bottom layer of the drawer, it is easier to open and close.

  • Another trick to make the drawer run smoother is to rub Clear Paraffin Wax* on the bottom of the drawer and the bottom of the box.

  • To decorate the box, I used a Xyron Disposable Sticker Maker* maker to add adhesive to the back of my paper.  It’s a quick and easy way to cover the sides of the box.
