Patriotic Star Shirt for Mae

My granddaughter Mae was here visiting over the weekend,

and I decided to make her a shirt for the 4th of July.

My original plan was to make it a Stars and Stripes Forever

shirt, but my daughter suggested something simpler.

Something she can wear for a little longer than a day.

Mae’s Star Shirt for the 4th of July…

  • I purchased a plain white shirt from Walmart for under $4.
  • I measured the area of the shirt that I wanted the design.
  • I used StyleTechCraft’s Heat Transfer Vinyl*, it is really easy to weed and use.
  • I cut the vinyl stars using a Silhouette Cameo Electronic Die Cutting Machine*, but you could also use metal dies to cut the vinyl.
  • Place the cut vinyl onto the shirt shiny side up.
  • Position the design on your shirt. Cover the shirt with a pressing cloth before pressing.
  • Use an iron or a heat press* to apply heat and pressure to the design, following the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Peel off the clear transfer tape.
  • Turn the shirt inside out and iron the inside of the shirt.

I was happy with how the shirt turned out, and so was Mae.

She decided she didn’t want to take it off.

  • Seal the crate using Mod Podge Gloss*.  (This makes the crate look like it has been varnished.)
  • Cut a piece of foam to fit inside of the crate.
  • Paint the foam with black acrylic paint.

  • Cut the carrots from the garland.

  • Poke holes into the foam that are large enough for the tips of the carrots to fit down into.
  • Hot glue the tips of the carrots in the holes.

  • Cut a pink circle and bunny ears for the top of the jar.  (The ears for the bunny came with the Bunny Face SVG file.) I used white cardstock for the bunny ears and pink vinyl for the inside.  You could also use felt to create the bunny ears.
  • Adhere the bunny ears to the lid with Glue Dots* or hot glue.

  • Disassemble the “bunny backside” embellishment.
  • Adhere the feet under the front of the jar.

  • Use Glue Dots* to adhere the tail to the back of the jar.

  • Add a ribbon around the top of the lid.
  • Use Glue Dots* under the ribbon to keep it from slipping.
  • Glue a small bow and flower embellishment to the front of the lid.
  • Fill the jar with Spring Jellybeans* or Spring M & M’s*.  (Or your favorite treat.)

A little Holiday Trash to Treasure

A little Holiday Trash to Treasure

Farmhouse Style Christmas using Free or Thrifted Items

Earlier this past fall, while walking my dog, I stumbled upon

a guy having an Estate Sale out of a Storage unit.

He came up to me and said that everything was FREE!

He needed to empty the unit so that he could go back home to Arizona.

I quickly took my dog home and picked up a few treasures.

(okay, more than I needed)

A few of my new treasures were this candelabra

and a vintage metal frame.

A little Holiday Trash to Treasure

The candelabra wasn’t in the best shape and kept falling apart.

A little Holiday Trash to Treasure

But it was FREE!!!

A little Holiday Trash to Treasure

The vintage metal frame was silver (which is not quite my style).

But I had an idea of what I wanted to do with the frame.

I gave everything a good cleaning and a light sanding.

A little Holiday Trash to Treasure

I spray-painted both the candelabra and the silver frame

with Rust-oleum Semi-Gloss Black Spray Paint*.

Because the candelabra kept falling apart, I glued it together

with E6000 glue*.  (It worked like a charm.)

I added a Christmas Greeting inside my frame

using Carta Bella’s Winter Wonderland Collection*

I purchased flameless battery taper candles on Amazon*

These came with a remote, which was perfect.

I made small wreaths for each candle using craft pine stems.

I wrapped the craft stem around the base of the candle.

I removed the wreath and manipulated and resized it to

make it the size I wanted.

I made small cream bows and hot glued them onto the bows.

It’s now a cute Farmhouse Style Display to add to my Holiday Decorations.
