Pekin Times

On a Saturday morning back in February, I showed up to teach a class at my local Scrapbook Store and was greeted by a reporter from one of the local papers.  (a husband of one of the ladies that was taking my class)  He was doing an article on Paper Crafting, people who craft for fun and profit and a bit on my local Scrapbook Store, The Paper Forest.  I gave a quick interview while I set up for class and he followed up with a phone call to finish the interview later the next week.  While it was fun being included in the article I’ve been wondering since then what I’d said and hoping that I hadn’t embarrassed my self.

Click here to view the article.  (I think it turned out real nice.)

Make sure to check out the pictures.

Easter

Easter 2014 2

I love it when I get all my kids together in one place.  We hadn’t all been together since Christmas.

Of course, I had to grab the tri-pod and get a family picture.  We had a good laugh at all the takes,

one person in the group had too much Easter candy and kept running off.  (I won’t say who)

Serenity

I love the 12″ flower stencil from Clear Scraps and I was hooked the very first time I used it.

I have a very limited amount of mists and sprays but I some how ended up making a very fun mess.   “I was a misting fool.”

When I first got the 12″ flower stencil I knew I wanted to experiment with white backgrounds. (something I’m not too comfortable with) My “Serenity” layout is made using the flower stencil on white card stock and misted with October Afternoon’s Lemon Drop Sprinklers. I love how the stencil makes a soft, dramatic statement on the page. I wanted to keep the layout simple and added simple elements such as the daisy made with a punch from Marvy Uchida.

Misted 2

Here are some of the pages I misted.

This card was made using gold Smooch Spritz from Clearsnap.  So simple, so quick!

Misted Canvas

I even misted a canvas.  A work in progress.

Love this Stencil!!!

Wedding Wish Tree Tag

An old tradition that has been gaining popularity with brides is the Wedding Wish Tree.

The Wish Tree is a Dutch Wedding custom where the guests are given a piece of paper, either shaped like a leaf or tag made of cardstock.  When the guests arrive at the reception, they write their wishes to the happy couple and then hang them on the tree using ribbon, clips or string.

The Wish Tree will make a attractive centerpiece and a great statement to wow your guests.  It can also be used as an alternative to a traditional guest book.  Can’t you just see branches painted white with twinkle lights full of wonderful wishes.

Casual, Elegant, Rustic or Baubles and Beads.  Individualize your tree, the possibilities are endless. While Wedding sites on the internet suggest that Manzanita branches are the best to use, for those more creative souls, let your imagination run wild. The style is up you.

Why stop at weddings?   The Wish Tree could be used for any special occasion.

Instructions

Making the flower is easy.

  1. Punch six cream scallop circles.
  2. Using a ink applicator, ink the edge of each scallop circle with the Tea Rose ink.
  3. Mist the circles with water, allowing ink to run.
  4. Stack all the circles together and pierce a hole the the center of all circles.  Attach circles with small brad.
  5. Starting with the top circle,  carefully scrunch the circle to the center.  One by one, continue scrunching the circles until you have a small paper wad.
  6. Gently unfold the circles to start forming the flower.
  7. For extra color, apply a little more ink to the tip of the flower.  This can be done while the flower is still damp or wait until it has dried.  Allow flower to dry.
  8. Punch two cream scalloped hearts.
  9. Ink hearts with Peeled Paint Distress Ink.
  10. Mist hearts and scrunch in your hand.  Carefully unfold.
  11. Glue dried leaf underneath the flower.  Another alternative for the leaf is to pinch the two rounded ends of the heart using the pointed end as the tip of the leaf.

Say Cheese

Serenity Layout Say Cheese

They were trying to get Serenity to smile when her grandpa decided to make a funny face.

When she copied him the result was pure fun and personality.

This layout was made for The Paper Forest Design Team.

It uses the “Modern Miss” collection from Bo Bunny.

Serenity Layout yellow background #2A little more serious layout from the same photo session.

This time I used a mix from the “Modern Miss” collection and “Calypso” background paper from Quick Quotes.  I purchased a second sheet of the floral paper and fussy cut around the flowers.  I added foam mounting squares under the flowers to add dimension.

These are the cards we made in my Graphic 45 Botanical Tea Card and Tag Class at The Paper Forest.

This has to be one of my favorite collections from Graphic 45.
We made all four of these beautiful and elegant cards and tags.  Did I mention I love this collection?

More Creative Love from Kaisercraft’s “Now Boarding”

My first design team assignment with The Paper Forest was to use the

“Now Boarding” Collection from Kaisercraft.

This collection has a great selection of travel images.

I made a quick and easy card, which I turned into a anniversary card.

I also made this accordion album with flaps, pockets and plenty of room

for journaling.

In the collection of 12 x 12 papers is a page with six 4″ x 6″ images.

I cut this page in 1/2 vertically, used a small strip of coordinating paper to

join the two strips to make my accordion base.  I then went to town making

flips and pockets.  The front and back of the book is covered chipboard.

(page #1)

(inside of the book)

(Pocket Page)

(Pages #4-6, flaps closed)

I really loved working with this collection.

Very vintage inspired, yet modern.  (is that possible?)

A productive day

I enjoyed my snow day yesterday.  (Didn’t leave the house.)

I worked on these layouts off and on all day.

Funny how something so simple can take so long.

The first layout is of my sweet grandson Nick.  (fall of 2012)

The second layout is of Nick and his new little brother Warren.

My daughter-in-law was taking Christmas Eve pictures and we got this crazy idea to take

“Elf on the Shelf” pictures with the little guy.

Of course, Big Brother Nick wanted to get in on the action.

Glad to get these pictures on a page.
