Merry & Bright: Upcycled Lantern with a Snowman Twist

This season, I set out to add a little extra sparkle to my holiday decor

by transforming a simple thrifted lantern into a merry winter wonderland.

While treasure hunting at Goodwill, this simple lantern caught my eye.

Its $2.99 price tag was too good to pass up, and ideas started swirling

in my mind the moment I picked it up.

To create the Upcycled Lantern with a Snowman Twist:

I used Silver Transparent Glitter Vinyl from StyleTechCraft to create a scene on the outside of the lantern.
I used a Silhouette Cameo Electronic Die-Cutting Machine* and the “Let it Snow Quote” SVG file from The Silhouette Store to cut the design.
I was able to remove the piece of glass from the lantern, which made it easy to apply the vinyl.
Clean the glass with rubbing alcohol to remove fingerprints.

Once the design has been cut, you’ll need to remove the excess vinyl in and around the design using a vinyl weeding tool* or craft pick*.
Lay StyleTechCraft Transfer Tape* over the design and gently rub over the letters with a vinyl scraper tool.

Lift the design from the white protective liner and place it onto the glass.
Rub over the vinyl design with the scraper tool and remove the transfer tape.

The silver glitter vinyl creates a frosted effect, creating the appearance

of etched glass without the mess or commitment.

I had so much fun arranging a simple snowy scene inside the lantern,

complete with a cute little snowman and sparkling faux snow.

Here’s what I used inside the Lantern: (*affiliate links)

Directions:

Make a simple snowman using air-dry clay*.
Use the tips of painted bamboo skewers* for the arms of the snowman.
Once the air-dry clay has dried, draw on the face using fine-tip paint markers*.
Tie a thin ribbon around the neck of the snowman for the scarf.
I added a Small Wood Slice* to the bottom of the lantern to elevate the snowman.
If the lantern if going to be handled by children or curious adults, glue the snowman and Mini Bottle Brush Trees* to the Wood Slice*.
Finish off the look with a 1 1/2″ natural cotton red striped ribbon*.
Optional: Add Fairy Lights* to the inside of the lantern.

Kringle’s Christmas Tree Truck is an Easy Holiday Dollar Tree Craft.

The Christmas Tree Truck is a fun and inexpensive craft to create with the family.

This project is easily adaptable to fit your color scheme and style.

So have fun with it. (I did!)

I only spent $3.75 at Dollar Tree and added a few items I had on hand.

(If you have to order them online, Dollar Tree has smaller quantities available for the truck.)

MDF Wood Trucks Wall Plaque*
Small Wood Tray*
Red, Green, and Black Acrylic Paint*

Directions:

Paint both sides of the Wood Trucks with acrylic paint.

Unless you are steady-handed and can paint a perfect circle, here’s a trick I used.

Cut a circle the same size as the truck wheel. Cut the circle in half and use it as a mask to paint the top of the wheel. I used removable vinyl to cut my circle.

I used StyleTechCraft Silver Adhesive Craft Vinyl* and a Silhouette Cameo Electronic Die Cutting Machine* to create and cut the graphics for the side of the truck. If you don’t have vinyl, you could always use letter stickers.
Use the vinyl pick tool to remove the excess vinyl from inside and around the letters.

Cut a piece of Vinyl Transfer Tape* to fit over the vinyl words. Gently rub over the transfer paper using the squeegee tool. Lift the transfer tape to remove the vinyl from the white liner.

Using the vinyl transfer tape, line up the words onto the side of the truck.
Gently rub over the vinyl transfer tape using the squeegee tool to make sure all the image has transferred.
Remove the transfer tape.

I added words to a plain ornament to create a “cut your own” sign.

I used Wood Glue* to glue the truck. I needed glue that would give me enough time to line up the box and still be sturdy enough to hold the weight.
Allow time for the glue to dry before picking up the finished truck.

Decorate the body of the truck using a craft pine stem as garland.
Glue small bows and beads onto the garland.

Red Plaid Embroidery Hoop Ornament

A Quick and Easy DIY Holiday Ornament.

Make it a personal memory with a piece of fabric or flannel from a “special” shirt.

Directions:

Instead of hand painting or stenciling on the ribbon, I created the “stencil words” using a Silhouette Cameo Electronic Die Cutting Machine* out of removable vinyl*. I removed the inside of the letters leaving the blank space.
Use the transfer tape* to pick up the stenciled word. Place the transfer tape* on the center of the cotton twill ribbon. Rub gently over the transfer paper to transfer the vinyl onto the twill ribbon. Remove the transfer paper.
Use a paintbrush to carefully stencil (or paint) the inside of the letters. Allow to dry and remove the vinyl. (The vinyl words are for one use.)

Open the embroidery hoop* and place the flannel on the embroidery hoop. Lay the stenciled twill over the center of the flannel.

Place the outside hoop over the flannel and twill and tighten the embroidery hoop. Cut the excess flannel and ribbon from the back of the embroidery hoop.
Glue a cardstock circle onto the back of the embroidery hoop.

Measure and cut the pine stem to fit around the outside edge of the embroidery hoop. Glue the craft pine stem* onto the embroidery hoop.
Tie a small bow using the striped ribbon.
Cut the berry sprig down to size, glue both the ribbon and berry to the top of the hoop.
Add natural twine to the top to hang.

Oh Holy Night Christmas Star Decoration

My very most favorite Christmas Song is Oh Holy Night.

The melody gets me every time. To me, it’s one of the most beautiful songs.

I love to close my eyes when listening to it. (And a good tenor can bring me to tears.)

I wanted a new Star to hang near the top of my tree this year, so I decided to make one using

my favorite song and an inexpensive wood star I found at Dollar Tree*.

Add some of my favorite Glossy Craft Vinyl from StyleTechCraft, and I have what I need to make the perfect star for me.

12″ Wood Star from Dollar Tree*
DecoArt Americana Acrylic Paint, Country Red*
StyleTechCraft Glossy Craft Vinyl: White*, Silver*, Gold*, and Olive*
StyleTechCraft Vinyl Tool Kit*
StyletechCraft Grid Transfer Tape, Clear*
Silhouette Came o Electronic Die Cutting Machine*
Oh Holy Night SVG file from the Silhouette Store
Ribbon
Greenery
Hot Glue Gun

Directions:

Paint the wood star using the Country Red Acrylic Paint*.
Use the Oh Holy Night SVG cut file and the Silhouette Came o Electronic Die Cutting Machine* to cut the pieces out of vinyl. (Make sure to keep the spacing the same as in the file.)
Use the vinyl pick tool to remove the excess vinyl from inside and around the letters and banner.
Cut a piece of Vinyl Transfer Tape* to fit over the vinyl words. Gently rub over the transfer paper using the squeegee tool. Lift the transfer tape to remove the vinyl from the white liner.
Using the vinyl transfer tape, line up the white vinyl words “Oh, and Shining” onto the star first. Gently rub over the vinyl transfer tape using the squeegee tool to make sure all the image has transferred. Remove the transfer tape.
Line up the silver words “Holy Night, and brightly shining” and place between the previous words. Continue with the gold stars and the olive banner. (It’s hard to see it from the pictures but the gold and silver stands out nicely on top the red star.)

Actually, the star would look fine, just as it is in the above picture.

But, I wanted to add a little ribbon and greenery on the top of my star to fancy it up.

I’m really happy with the way it turned out. This Star will go near the top of my tree and will go

beautifully with my decorations. The Star would look great in the center of a Christmas wreath.

Or, if you used a smaller star, it would make a cute ornament.
