With Valentine’s Day right around the corner…

I wanted to share a simple little project that’s really quick and easy to put together.

A Valentine’s Frame using the You & Me Collection from Simple Stories.

This cute little frame, from Canvas Corp Brands, is only 6″ x 6″ and I love how versatile

it is to decorate.  The larger section is perfect for a 4″ x 6″ picture and if white’s not your

style it’s available in wood stained.  I added dimension to the frame by adding

cubes made from cardstock behind the “love you lots” and “pail of flowers”.

I dressed it up by gluing on metal corners from Tim Holtz.

DIY Wedding Project Day #5 Wedding Tag

Weddings, Anniversaries, Birthdays… customize a tag to fit the celebration.

I hope you enjoyed my DIY Wedding Projects this week and feel inspired to make

a few DIY projects of you own.

Wedding Tag Supplies Needed:

Directions for Wedding Tag:

  1. Cut a 3 1/2” x 6 1/4” tag out of scrapbook paper.
  2. To create the pleated ribbon you will need 12” of the Pierre Ivory ribbon. Fold 1/2” end of the ribbon under and secure with a mini glue dot.
  3. Turn ribbon over and create pleats by folding and gluing each fold inside and under securing with mini glue dot.
  4. Glue pleated ribbon onto bottom of the tag.
  5. For added detail, glue Galena 1/8” silver ribbon over pleated ribbon.
  6. Glue Design Chain Tracy-Silver onto tag above pleated ribbon.
  7. Cut 12” of Antique White 7/8” ribbon.
  8. Using the needle and thread with a long tail, make a simple running stitch down one side of the ribbon.
  9. Gather ribbon together with thread and tie in the center to form the ribbon rosette flower.
  10. Glue a gem cut from the Design Chain Tracy onto the center of the flower.
  11. Create and print computer generated greetings on to cream card-stock.
  12. Cut greetings down and edge card-stock with silver leaf pen.
  13. Adhere first greeting to tag using double stick tape runner, allowing part of the greeting to hang over edge of the tag.
  14. Glue Ribbon Flower onto tag above first greeting.
  15. Glue Gleaming leaves under flower.
  16. Add second greetings to the Deco Ice stick pin. Leave enough room on the card-stock greeting to fold around the pin and adhere.
  17. Stick Deco Ice pin into the glued flower.
  18. Insert remaining 7/8” Antique White Satin Ribbon into top hole on tag.
  19. Fold 5/8” Antique White Satin Ribbon to form a bow. Tie and knot around the center of the bow with the cream twine.
  20. Tie bow around 7/8” ribbon and secure.
  21. Thread small cream button on ends of the twine and secure on the front of the bow with a knot.

Crazy Quilt Card 2

I am fascinated by quilts.  Old ones, new ones, it doesn’t matter…

I love all the colors and patterns.

I once thought I might enjoy making a quilt.

But… I knew I’d never have the patience to finish the job.  (So I quit before I even started.)

I recently received some new stamps and inkpads from Ann Butler Designs and

Clearsnap to use for a Blog Hop with a few other designers.

The stamps I received are quilt themed stamps and the Crafter’s ink is perfect for fabric, wood and

more.  Being a paper crafter… my first thought was a quilt card.  (Now that’s a quilt I can make.)

Quilt Card Supplies Used:

  • ColorBox® Background Basics by Ann Butler  Basket 1 and Picnic 1
  • ColorBox Crafter’s® by Ann Butler Canyon, Ocean Breeze, Desert Sand, Evergreen, Deep Woods
  • Blender Basics Paper Pack from Adorn It

Here’s how I made the card:

  1. Cut 1″ squares from the pre-stamped colored paper.  Make extra so that some of them can be cut in 1/2 diagonally.  I stamped the “basket” stamp several times on a 5 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ piece of paper to create my background piece.
  2. I made a 5″ x 5″ scored grid to glue my 1″ squares on.  You don’t necessarily need to make a grid; you could actually glue it right onto the background piece.  I found it easier to arrange and re-arrange my squares on the grid before gluing.   It also helped me keep the squares straight when gluing.
  3. Once pattern is glued down, create secondary pattern by adding cut 1/2″ squares.
  4. Adhere quilt card onto 5 1/2″ stamped square and additional layers.  Finished card is 6″ x 6″.

What is Fussy Cutting you ask?

Fussy Cutting is a quilting term meaning: the selective cutting of a fabric based on a particular element or design.  To cut pieces of fabric so that a particular part of the printed design is centered or featured.

Scrapbookers and Paper Crafters have adopted the term using it to select and cut around specific images on a printed paper.

When I fussy cut, I look for larger, whole images that are easy to cut out.  You’ll need to have a good, sharp pair of scissors with a fine tip so you’ll be able to cut smaller detailed images.  For layering, my favorite thing to use is thin 3D foam mounting squares from Scrapbook Adhesive by 3L.

HOP Paper Pack

Above is a picture I created using Hot Off the Press Artful Watercolor collection.  The paper pack comes with two sheets of each design.

Below is the framed picture broken down into sections.

  1. I used a second sheet of the scrapbook paper (with the large white flower) and cut along the design to create a pocket.  The pocket was inked with brown ink to make it stand out more.
  2. I added my daughter’s picture right at the top of the pocket.  I cut post cards from a another sheet from the collection and inserted into the pocket covering the bottom of the picture.  The picture and postcards are secured into place with my double adhesive tape.
  3. I cut out two white flowers from the floral scrapbook sheet from the collection.  Cut close around the image.  I gave the flowers shape by rubbing the back of the flower with a large ball stylus tool on a soft foam or rubber surface.  Adhere the flowers together with a thin foaming mounting square.
  4. Cut the center only from two additional flower images.  Round the centers (step #3).  Adhere to the center of the white flower using a small thin foam mounting squares.
  5. Place finished picture into the floating beveled frame.  Mount layered flower on top the large white flower that is under the glass.

Tattered Tangles: Happy Birthday Tag

Do you ever need a really large Birthday Tag to make your present “POP”?

This tag uses Tattered Tangles a fun doodle art from Canvas Corp. Brands.

Tattered Tangles Collection is printed on a paper called Leather Paper making it

perfect for coloring and different paint techniques.

Supplies Used on the Tattered Tangles Happy Birthday Tag:

  1. Cut Tattered Tangles Birthday image down to 3-3/4″ to 6″.  Color image with colored markers.
  2. Add clear glitter glue to flame on the birthday candle.
  3. Adhere birthday image onto black cardstock.
  4. Adhere small scraps of teal and green burlap onto the corners of a 4-1/2 x 7-1/2″ piece of white cardstock.  Glue rick rack onto the top and bottom.  Layer onto another piece of black cardstock.
  5. Mount birthday image with foam mounting squares onto the burlap and white cardstock.
  6. Curl white curling ribbon and attach to the top of the tag with a small green clothespin.

Today’s project is one of those quick & easy projects that just make me smile.

You can put together this Mini Desk Calendar in just a few minutes.

I started with a 3″ x 4″ clear acrylic frame from Deflecto Craft Solutions

and a Mini Tear Off Calendar from Taylored Expressions.

Along with some left over scrapbook paper from a class I was working on.

And… because the paper is inserted inside the frame you can easily change

it out with the seasons.  You can make the mini desk calendar with the acrylic

frame upright or laying down.  Either one is cute.

Additional Supplies:

  • Large White Tag 3 1/2” x 6 1/4”
  • Cardstock: White, Pink
  • Large White Button (Buttons Galore and More)
  • Fabri Tac Adhesive (Beacon Adhesives)
  • Tape Runner
  • Thin 3-D Foam Squares (Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L)
  • 5/16 Hole Punch
  • Silver Ribbon (Offray)
  • Computer Generated Font.

Directions:

  1. Punch a 3 1/2” pink cardstock border using the Honeycomb punch.
  2. Add a 3 1/2” strip of decorative tape onto a piece of white cardstock. Trim a very thin border on each side of the tape. Add decorative trim tape piece onto center of the Honeycomb border.
  3. Adhere border on the bottom of the tag.
  4. Cut 12” from the White Pull flowers trim. Fold trim in half and pull strings as directed to create flower.
  5. Add small pink feet stickers to a large white button. Glue embellished button to the center of the flower. Glue flower onto center of the tag.
  6. Create a pink banner from the Party Dies. Add to top of the top using thin foam mounting squares.
  7. Print out the letters: B A B Y using a computer and printer onto white cardstock.
  8. Punch out each letter using a 5/16th hole punch. Add the letters onto the banner with small thin mounting squares.
  9. Tie top of the tag with silver ribbon.

Confession:  I’m not sure if you noticed or not… 

I did not use a plain white strip under the washi tape on the first picture on this post.

You can see the honeycomb underneath.  I like it better with the white strip.  It’s a little crisper.

I tried retaking the picture of the tag over 100 times.  That one was my favorite.  (so I stuck with it)
