Personalized Vinyl Labels for Back-to-School

Getting ready for back-to-school is always exciting,

especially when you can add a personal touch to their supplies.

My sweet little granddaughter Mae just started pre-K this month,

filling our hearts with a mix of pride and disbelief at how quickly she’s growing up.

But she was excited and is loving going every day.

She was ready.

To prepare her supplies for going to school,

my daughter asked me to make personalized name labels out of

vinyl for her.

I cut a variety of sizes of her name using my Silhouette Electronic Die-Cutting Machine*

with StyleTechCraft White Glitter Adhesive Vinyl.

I mailed the vinyl and some StyleTechCraft Clear Transfer Tape* to my daughter.

She had never used vinyl, but was pleased at how easy it was to use.

Now she’s thinking of upcoming seasonal uses for vinyl. (That’s my girl!)

DIY Butterfly Vase

Transform an ordinary vase into a dazzling centerpiece

with StyleTechCraft Transparent Glitter Vinyl,

perfect for adding a whimsical butterfly touch to your home décor!

StyleTechCraft Transparent Glitter Vinyl: Royal Blue, Sky Blue, Teal, and Orange
Silhouette Electronic Die-Cutting Machine*
Fancy Floral Butterfly SVG cut file from The Silhouette Design Store.
Vinyl Craft Tools*
StyleTechCraft Clear Transfer Tape*
Inexpensive Clear Vase from Dollar Tree*
Alcohol Wipes*

To Make the Butterfly Vase:

I used my Silhouette Electronic Die-Cutting Machine* to cut the butterfly image. I cut it four times, one each in the different colors of StyleTechCraft Transparent Vinyl Royal Blue, Sky Blue, Teal, and Orange.
I inlaid the inner butterfly pieces onto the design instead of layering the vinyl. I used a pick tool to carefully place the image inside the design.

I used an inexpensive clear glass vase from Dollar Tree*.
To help the vinyl stick to the glass, clean the glass vase with rubbing alcohol* or an alcohol wipe. This will remove any oils or residue left on the surface.
Place the transfer paper over the image and gently rub with a vinyl scraper tool to transfer the image.
Place the image on the glass and gently rub to transfer the image onto the glass. Remove transfer paper.
I would recommend handwashing the vase.

Celebrate 250 Years with a Fun Patriotic DIY Sign

Ready to add some extra sparkle to your 4th of July celebration?

I always enjoy making new decorations for the holidays,

and with the USA celebrating 250 years,

I knew this was a milestone worth going big for!

This year, I decided to make a patriotic sign using StyleTechCraft vinyl

and my Silhouette Cameo Electronic Die Cutter.

Not only is it a fun way to show off some red, white, and blue,

but it’s also a great project to mark such a special anniversary.

To begin, I painted an 8″ plain decorative wood sign with white paint.

For faster results, white spray paint also works well.

You can find several different sizes of wood signs on Amazon*. (click on the link)

I used the Eagle Holding American Flag SVG File from The Silhouette Design Store

Size the design to fit onto your wood sign.
I cut the design using my Silhouette Electronic Die-Cutting Machine* and the Eagle Holding American Flag SVG File.
I cut it twice, once with navy vinyl and once using red vinyl.
Once the design was cut, I weeded the design using a vinyl craft pick*. Weeding vinyl is the process of removing excess vinyl from a cut design, leaving only the intended shapes, letters, or images.
Using the design image as reference, remove the parts from the blue design that will be red and vice versa with the red design.
Be careful around the numbers, as the thin shadow line is tricky to weed out.

Place the navy blue design onto the sign first using transfer paper. I gently rubbed over the transfer paper and sign using a vinyl scraper tool*.
After the words have transferred to the sign, remove the transfer paper.

Here’s my tip: When transferring the red design, take it slow and line up small sections

one section at a time. I tried to transfer the entire design all at once and ended up having

to redo parts of it-trust me, working in smaller sections will save you time and frustration?

DIY Valentine’s Day Decoration with Clothespin Easel

How to make a Hugs and Kisses Valentine’s Day Decoration.

Eight years ago, I created a simple “Make and Take” project for

the StyleTechCraft Booth at a convention in Phoenix.

The project was a simple Valentine’s Day vinyl craft added to a

plain matboard coaster. The Valentine’s Day coaster featured a

simple easel on the back made using a spring-loaded clothespin.

Surprisingly, that little clothespin easel was a smash hit.

In the last eight years, it has been my most viewed and pinned

pin on Pinterest. (And my most stolen pin also.)

To make the Hugs and Kisses Coaster:

I started with a plain 4″ square coaster*.
Size the “xoxo hugs and kisses” design to fit onto the center of the coaster.
Using a Silhouette Cameo Electronic Die Cutting Machine*, cut the XOXO pieces of the design using StyleTechCraft Pink and Red Luster Vinyl.
Cut the words “hugs and kisses” using StyleTechCraft Black Adhesive Glossy Craft Vinyl.
Using transfer paper, I transferred the design onto the front of the coaster.

6. I edged the sides of my coaster in silver, using a Silver Leaf Paint Pen*.

To make the Easel…

Glue a Wooden Clothespin* on the back of the coaster with Rapid Fuse Adhesive*.
Pull the clothespin open just enough so that the round metal spring comes slightly out of its groove. (Some clothespins work better than others so you might need a little luck.)
To keep the clothespin from snapping shut…glue the top ends of the clothespin together.

These little coasters make sweet Valentine’s Day decorations or thoughtful handmade gifts. Happy crafting!

Upcycled Lantern with a Snowman Twist

Merry & Bright: Upcycled Lantern with a Snowman Twist

This season, I set out to add a little extra sparkle to my holiday decor

by transforming a simple thrifted lantern into a merry winter wonderland.

While treasure hunting at Goodwill, this simple lantern caught my eye.

Its $2.99 price tag was too good to pass up, and ideas started swirling

in my mind the moment I picked it up.

To create the Upcycled Lantern with a Snowman Twist:

I used Silver Transparent Glitter Vinyl from StyleTechCraft to create a scene on the outside of the lantern.
I used a Silhouette Cameo Electronic Die-Cutting Machine* and the “Let it Snow Quote” SVG file from The Silhouette Store to cut the design.
I was able to remove the piece of glass from the lantern, which made it easy to apply the vinyl.
Clean the glass with rubbing alcohol to remove fingerprints.

Once the design has been cut, you’ll need to remove the excess vinyl in and around the design using a vinyl weeding tool* or craft pick*.
Lay StyleTechCraft Transfer Tape* over the design and gently rub over the letters with a vinyl scraper tool.

Lift the design from the white protective liner and place it onto the glass.
Rub over the vinyl design with the scraper tool and remove the transfer tape.

The silver glitter vinyl creates a frosted effect, creating the appearance

of etched glass without the mess or commitment.

I had so much fun arranging a simple snowy scene inside the lantern,

complete with a cute little snowman and sparkling faux snow.

Here’s what I used inside the Lantern: (*affiliate links)

Directions:

Make a simple snowman using air-dry clay*.
Use the tips of painted bamboo skewers* for the arms of the snowman.
Once the air-dry clay has dried, draw on the face using fine-tip paint markers*.
Tie a thin ribbon around the neck of the snowman for the scarf.
I added a Small Wood Slice* to the bottom of the lantern to elevate the snowman.
If the lantern if going to be handled by children or curious adults, glue the snowman and Mini Bottle Brush Trees* to the Wood Slice*.
Finish off the look with a 1 1/2″ natural cotton red striped ribbon*.
Optional: Add Fairy Lights* to the inside of the lantern.

DIY Gold Bunny Silhouette Pillow & Treat Bag

It’s an easy project to make. Even if you’re a simple sewer, like me.

DIY Gold Bunny Silhouette Pillow & Treat Bag

How to make the Gold Silhouette Bunny Pillow:

Choose your fabric. Cut the fabric into two squares or rectangles of equal size. (I cut my cream fabric to 14″ x 14″ to make a 12″ pillow.)
Place the two fabric pieces together right-side in.
Sew the edges together, leaving a 2-inch opening along one side.
Turn the pillow right-side out.
Fold the raw edges in and press them flat.
Using the Silhouette Cameo Electronic Die-Cutting Machine* and an SVG file from The Silhouette Store, I created a design for the pillow.
Cut the design using Gold Heat Transfer Vinyl* making sure to mirror the image.
Place the shiny side down on the cutting mat.
After you’ve cut the design, weed the excess material away from the design, leaving only the parts you want to transfer.
Position the design on your fabric. Use an iron or a heat press to apply heat and pressure to the design, following the manufacturer’s instructions.
Peel off the transfer tape.
Stuff the pillow with Poly-Fil®* and sew the opening closed.

DIY Gold Bunny Silhouette Treat Bag

I knew a head of time that I wanted to make a couple of small treat bags. I decreased the size of the bunny and cut it at the same time as the pillow design.

How to make the Bunny Treat Bag:

Cut a piece of gold polka dot fabric approx. 10″ x 14″.
On both ends of the fabric, fold down approx. 1″ and sew a seam across the top. That should leave you with a 3/4″ pocket.
Fold the material in half and sew the remaining sides closed.
Trim excess material on the seams and turn the fabric inside out to reveal the bag.
Iron the gold HTV bunny on the front of the bag. (see above directions)
Cut two small slits on the top pocket of the bag on each end.
Cut two 24″ pieces of gold ribbon.
Attach a small safety pin to the end of a piece of ribbon. Thread the ribbon through the top of the bag, remove the safety pin, and knot the ribbon.
On the opposite end of the bag, thread the second piece of ribbon through.
Pull both ends of the ribbon to gather and close the bag.

My Nutty Valentine

My Nutty Valentine is fun spin on the traditional Valentine’s Day gift.

It’s for people like me that are not mushy Valentine’s Day gift-givers.

My husband is a peanut-loving guy who I’m nuts about.

So, I thought I would make something fun with a can of peanuts*.

My Nutty Valentine

Directions:

I cut all the pieces of the squirrel using StyleTechCraft Adhesive Gloss Craft Vinyl* and a Silhouette Cameo Electronic Die Cutting Machine*.
I removed the extra vinyl in and around the image using a Vinyl Weeding Tool.
Next, layer the pieces to make the squirrel.

Cut a strip of decorative scrapbook paper to fit around the peanut can.
Adhere the paper to the can using a double-stick tape roller*.

Lay the Transfer paper over the vinyl and gently rub with a vinyl scraper tool.

Place the Vinyl Transfer Tape* and vinyl onto the peanut can.

Rub over Vinyl Transfer Tape* and gently remove from the vinyl.

Don’t forget to decorate the top of the can.
I cut a 3″ circle from bronze vinyl and adhered it and a small red heart to the top of the can.

Wrap Blue and White Twine* around the top of the can and add a small white tag.
And just so my husband knows, I added “I’m Nut’s About You” on the side of the can.

Whether you are hosting a super large gathering or a small hunt for three wild

Using the “The Hunt is On” SVG file from The Silhouette Store and my Silhouette Cameo Electronic Die Cutting Machine*, I cut the design using StyleTech Craft Glossy Vinyl.
After cutting, remove the excess vinyl using a Vinyl Weeding Tool*.

I applied the background vinyl first.
Lay the transfer paper over the words.
Rub over the transfer paper with a vinyl scraper tool and lift the design from the white paper backing.
Lay the transfer paper onto the sign and rub over the design. Remove the transfer paper.
Line up the colored eggs one at a time over the background design.

“I Love You More than Donuts” Valentine’s Day Card.

As I mentioned in my last post, my husband and I aren’t that gushy romantic couple.

This card is the Valentine’s Day card that I made for him.

In the early years of our marriage, my husband would buy me a donut every weekend morning.

It was one of the sweet little things he would do for me.

That lasted until I told him I couldn’t eat another donut. (I know, I’m an ungrateful wife.)

But recently, my husband has been on a donut kick again.

And sometimes, if I ask nicely, he’ll buy one for me.

So technically, this should have been his Valentine’s card to me. (I hope!)

How to make a “You Warm my Heart” Valentine’s Day Mug.

Some girls may want roses and expensive gifts for Valentine’s Day.

Not this girl. Give me something thoughtful and sweet, and I’ll be happy.

(Oh, and a little chocolate never hurts.)

How to make a "You warm my heart" mug using StyleTechCraft Vinyl.

While shopping at my local Dollar Tree…

I found this simple red and white mug*; I was drawn to its color because it is more barn red than fire engine red.

I decided to make a fun Valentine’s mug using my favorite StyleTechCraft Adhesive Vinyl.

Did you know, Dollar Tree* has a lot of glass and ceramic items that are perfect for adding vinyl?

How to make a "You warm my heart" mug using StyleTechCraft Vinyl.

To make the Valentine’s Mug:

I used an inexpensive red mug found at Dollar Tree*.
Prep the surface of the mug with rubbing alcohol to remove any oils.
I used the Silhouette Store “ink-free” font and the Silhouette Cameo Electronic Die Cutting Machine* to cut the words.
I used StyleTechCraft Silver Luster Vinyl* for the words and StyleTechCraft Rose Gold Craft Vinyl* for the hearts.
After cutting, remove the excess vinyl using a Vinyl Weeding Tool*.
Lay the transfer paper over the words.
Rub over the transfer paper with a vinyl scraper tool and lift the words from the white paper backing.

How to make a "You warm my heart" mug using StyleTechCraft Vinyl.

Lay the transfer paper onto the mug. Since it has a curved surface, start from the center of the words and rub one side at a time using a vinyl scraper tool. The tool allows you to smooth the image and eliminate air bubbles.
Remove Vinyl Transfer Tape*.
Line up hearts over the words and apply the vinyl hearts onto the mug.

Allow the vinyl to cure on the mug for four days before use. (Hand Wash Only)

Add a package of heart marshmallows (I found at Target), chocolates, and a box of Hot Cocoa Mix
