Gift Box using Eileen Hull’s Stacking Drawer Die

Little Gift Box made with the Sizzix Stacking Drawers Die by Eileen Hull.

A Little Gift Box using the Stacking Drawer Die*.

Earlier this month, Sizzix and Eileen Hull re-released the Stacking Drawer Die

along with several other dies.  (you can see the original post here)

While there are several ways to use this die,

I thought the Stacking Drawers* would also make a perfect little gift box.

To make the gift box…

Little Gift Box made with the Sizzix Stacking Drawers Die by Eileen Hull.

  • I like to paint the mat board with Deco Art Multi-Media Acrylic Paint* before I assemble the box.
  • Fold the matboard and adhere to the ends of the die-cut using a Strong Double-Sided Tape*.
  • Retouch the paint if necessary.
  • FYI…If you use a thinner mat board for the bottom layer of the drawer, it is easier to open and close.

  • Another trick to make the drawer run smoother is to rub Clear Paraffin Wax* on the bottom of the drawer and the bottom of the box.

  • To decorate the box, I used a Xyron Disposable Sticker Maker* maker to add adhesive to the back of my paper.  It’s a quick and easy way to cover the sides of the box.

DIY Inspirational Trays

DIY Inspirational Tray using StyleTechCraft Vinyl

Looking for a Quick and Easy DIY Gift Idea?

These Inspiration Trays are Special End of the Year Teacher Gifts.

My sister works at a private Christian school and asked me to

help her personalize gifts for a couple of special co-workers.

She’s a great gift giver and likes to give thoughtful gifts.

(Each teacher was asked to fill out a survey of things they

liked including their favorite scripture verse.)

  • To start the project, she picked out a couple of Unfinished Wood Trays*
  • The bottom of the tray was painted white and lightly sanded before adding the vinyl scripture.
  • We measured the inside of the tray to determine the size of the scripture we wanted to use.

We noticed after the trays were finished that we had somehow

missed the two dots on the Esther verse.

We were able to easily recreate the dots and add them to

the finished tray.  I think they turned out great!

In addition to the finished tray, the gift included greenery, a candle, and a jar of “love notes” from the students.

The kindergarten students were asked what they loved about their teacher.

I didn’t get a chance to read them, but I’m sure they were interesting.

How to make a Personalized Farmhouse Garden Sign.

The “Garden sign” is a quick and easy Dollar Tree project.

Now that garden season is upon us, my mind is distracted with all things gardening.

I will start planting next week, and I can’t wait.

In anticipation of this year’s garden, I created a garden sign

using an inexpensive galvanized banner purchased at Dollar Tree*.

I made it with a traditional red, white, and blue color scheme.

Summer Blooms Mini Album

Summer Bloom Mini Album

How to make a Summer Blooms Mini Album…

I love Summer Blooms and fell in love with the new Bloom Collection*

from Echo Park as soon as I saw it.

Using the Sizzix Notebook Die by Eileen Hull* and the Bloom Collection*,

I made this cute little pocket-sized mini album.

Directions:

  • Cut two 6″ x 8-1/2″pieces of decorative scrapbook paper for the front and inside of the cover.
  • Lay decorative scrapbook paper (design side up) on the Xyron Creative Station* crank the handle to run the paper through the machine.  As it moves through the Xyron Creative Station it adds adhesive to the back side of the paper.
  • Easy to use and it doesn’t need any electricity.
  • I like using the Xyron Creative Station* when making mini books because you get complete coverage, no wrinkling, no bubbles!

Summer Bloom Mini Album

  • Cut a piece of mat board 6″ x 8-1/2″.
  • Adhere the decorative paper on each side of the mat board.
  • Lay the covered mat board over the notebook die* sandwiched between two cutting plates.
  • Crank the handle of the Sizzix Big Shot Die Cutting Machine* and run the die through the machine.  The Big Shot will cut and score the mat board.

  • Cut a 2 1/4″ x 5″ strip of decorative paper to use for the spine and run it through the Xyron Creative Station*.  Adhere the strip to the spine of the book.
  • Cut 5 cardstock pages using the notebook die.
  • Crease the cardstock on the center score lines.

Summer Bloom Mini Album

  • Wrap the twine around the inside creases and around the outside of the book cover to secure the pages.
  • FYI…I wanted this Mini Album to be all about the pictures, so I kept the pages white. There are no fancy embellishments or special pages inside this album.

Summer Bloom Mini Album-Sue's Creative Workshop www.sueeldred.com 4776

  • After I had all my pages together, I tied the pieces of twine together in one knot on the spine and added a small metal heart charm.   I placed a small floral sticker from the Bloom Collection* to the center of the heart.
  • As an afterthought, after I took the above pictures, I added Sizzix Effects™ Liquid Gloss* over the heart. The Liquid Gloss gives the heart a clear domed look and will seal in the sticker.

  • Decorate the front of the album with Stickers from the Bloom Collection*.
  • For added dimension, place the sticker on a small piece of matboard.

We are all a Work in Progress-How to Upcycle a promotional water bottle

How to Upcycle a promotional water bottle.

A few months ago, I joined a gym.

I did it for a couple of reasons.

The first was for my physical self.

And the second for my mental health.

What I didn’t expect was the community I would find

and the friends I would make.

And while I haven’t seen huge improvements in my waistline,

I have seen improvement in my ability to do more than I thought I could.

I’m still a work in Progress.

We are all a Work in Progress-How to Upcycle a promotional water bottle.

Wanting to be like the “cool kids” and help save the planet from plastic water bottles,

I told my husband I needed a metal water bottle to take to the gym.

“I have one at work you can have,” he said.  (he knows I’m cheap)

His company had given them metal water bottles that included the company’s core values.

While the values are good and everything, I wanted something different.

I wanted something more inspirational, more personal.

Being a creative person, I brought out my favorite StyleTechCraft adhesive vinyl.

DIY Gold Bunny Silhouette Pillow & Treat Bag

How to make the Gold Silhouette Bunny Pillow:

  • Choose your fabric.  Cut the fabric into two squares or rectangles of equal size.  (I cut my cream fabric to 14″ x 14″ to make a 12″ pillow.)
  • Place the two fabric pieces together right-side in.
  • Sew the edges together, leaving a 2-inch opening along one side.
  • Turn the pillow right-side out.
  • Fold the raw edges in and press them flat.
  • Using the Silhouette Cameo Electronic Die-Cutting Machine* and an SVG file from The Silhouette Store, I created a design for the pillow.
  • Cut the design using Gold Heat Transfer Vinyl* making sure to mirror the image.
  • Place the shiny side down on the cutting mat.
  • After you’ve cut the design, weed the excess material away from the design, leaving only the parts you want to transfer.
  • Position the design on your fabric.  Use an iron or a heat press to apply heat and pressure to the design, following the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Peel off the transfer tape.
  • Stuff the pillow with Poly-Fil®* and sew the opening closed.

DIY Gold Bunny Silhouette Treat Bag

I knew a head of time that I wanted to make a couple of small treat bags.  I decreased the size of the bunny and cut it at the same time as the pillow design.

How to make the Bunny Treat Bag:

  • Cut a piece of gold polka dot fabric approx. 10″ x 14″.
  • On both ends of the fabric, fold down approx. 1″ and sew a seam across the top.  That should leave you with a 3/4″ pocket.
  • Fold the material in half and sew the remaining sides closed.
  • Trim excess material on the seams and turn the fabric inside out to reveal the bag.
  • Iron the gold HTV bunny on the front of the bag.  (see above directions)
  • Cut two small slits on the top pocket of the bag on each end.
  • Cut two 24″ pieces of gold ribbon.
  • Attach a small safety pin to the end of a piece of ribbon.  Thread the ribbon through the top of the bag, remove the safety pin, and knot the ribbon.
  • On the opposite end of the bag, thread the second piece of ribbon through.
  • Pull both ends of the ribbon to gather and close the bag.

DIY Gold Bunny Silhouette Treat Bag

With all the warm weather we’ve had lately, Spring Fever has hit me pretty hard.

I’ve completely rid my decor of anything resembling Winter.

I’m ready for Spring, Bunnies, and Flowers!

How to make a Buffalo Plaid Valentines Heart Door Hanger

Directions:

  • Remove the twine hanger from the wood heart.
  • Paint the heart with acrylic paint.  I used white.
  • I created a large heart mask for the center of the wood heart using StyleTechCraft Matte Removable Vinyl*.
  • Press down the edges of the mask so that paint can’t get under the mask.

How to make a Buffalo Plaid Valentines Heart Door Hanger

  • Cut 1″ strips of Removable Vinyl*.  Lay the strips across the wood heart.
  • Rub your finger over the vinyl strips to make sure that they are secure and have no gaps.
  • Paint inside the stripes with a thin coat of acrylic paint.  Be careful not to apply the paint too thick.   Only one thin coat of paint is needed.
  • Remove the vinyl strips.
  • Allow the paint to fully dry before continuing to the next step.

  • Next, add strips of removable vinyl vertically over the heart.
  • Make sure the tape is flat with no gaps.

DIY Wood Gingerbread House

DIY Wood Gingerbread House

Is it me, or is there even more Gingerbread House projects this year?

I’ve been seeing so many cute ones.

So…I decided why not jump on the Gingerbread House

Trend with one of my last crafty Holiday projects this season.

DIY Wood Gingerbread House

I found this wood house shape at Dollar Tree* earlier this year.

Next, I needed to deconstruct the house.

With patience, I removed the wood heart and house trim

using a craft knife*.  After removing the gingham fabric from the

wood house, I sanded the house smooth with a palm sander*.

I always wish I could have made more projects.

But, I have to remind myself there’s always next year.

Dollar Tree Dollhouse

I love miniatures, doll houses, and Christmas.

So, of course, I had to run over the next day and pick up a couple for myself.

There were two different dollhouses* to choose from.  (I bought one of each.)

How to make a Dollar Tree Dollhouse into a Miniature Christmas House.

The house was simple to dissasemble, which makes it perfect for painting.

How to make a Dollar Tree Dollhouse into a Miniature Christmas House.

I spray painted the pink house white, the roof gray, and the windows and doors gold.

It’s important to use a paint that sticks well to plastic.

Because I am an impatient crafter and couldn’t’ wait to put it together,

I have a few scratches on my house.

I sealed the paint on my house with a clear matte finish sealer*.

Mini Christmas Dollhouse

I also picked up these fairy lights*.

I’m not sure if I’m going to use them or not.

The pink of the original dollhouse shows through when the lights are on.

(I should have given the house an additional coat of paint.)

Mini Christmas Dollhouse

As a crafter, I have a stash of Christmas miniatures I’ve collected over the years.

They really came in handy this time.  (You can always check out your local craft store.)

I glued them onto the front of the house using Rapid Fuse All Purpose Adhesive*.

Mini Christmas Dollhouse

I’m in love with this Christmas Dollhouse.

It looks so real.  I want to live in that house.
