Splatter Painting

When you get an opportunity to look absolutely ridiculous…

have a little fun and make a really big creative mess, well…you just need to take it!

Last year at the Creativation Show, there was a clear acrylic booth set up called

the “Splatter Room”. As the name suggests, splatter painting is extremely messy.

So…dressed in a hazmat suit and goggles,

I went to town choosing paint and splattering it all over my canvas.

Oh, what a glorious mess!

It was so much fun and the highlight of my day.

The Shimelle “Box of Crayons” collection from American Crafts was the perfect collection

for my crazy, colorful pictures taken on my Splatter Day.

Last Saturday, National Scrapbooking Day, I spent my day divided between playing with

paper and playing in the dirt. (I do love a glorious mess.)

The “let’s be friends” card was another project that I made using the “box of crayons” collection

and my Xyron Tape Runner*.

Little League Champs

Watching Little League Baseball games are fun…

When they move up from tee ball to coach pitch, it’s a really big jump.

They go from playing in the dirt to actually making some good plays.

Watching the growth from the first games to the last is amazing.

This adorable group of 6 year olds made it all the way to the final championship.

And won 1st place. I couldn’t be prouder.

(FYI…My layout was made using paper and stickers from Paper House Productions.)

Vintage Market Collage

I had so much fun playing around with the 7 Gypsies Architext Paper Pad*

It’s my new favorite. It reminds me of going to the Flea Market with my daughter.

So much Vintage Goodness.

The project was basically put together with paper, glue and chipboard.

To begin…I glued the background paper to a thick piece of chipboard for stability.

I can easily add it to an 8″ x 8″ frame later if I want too.

I added several layers of chipboard on the back of each of the images to give dimension.

I also aged each piece by rubbing Vintage Photo Distress Ink* to the edges using a

Ink Blending Tool*. (*amazon affiliate link)

My favorite piece is the vintage crate. I added the second layer of chipboard with three small

strips, so that I could leave an opening on the top to add dried flowers from last years garden.

So realistic, it looks like a teeny tiny crate. I just love it.

How to make a Relaxing Guy Card

I’ve always found making cards for a guy to be tricky.

Making feminine cards come easy to me.

For the upcoming summer season, I decided to make a “guy” card

that would make a perfect birthday, Father’s Day and even Retirement.

To make the Relaxing Guy Card…

TIP: Before removing the back off the 3D foam mounting squares. Brush baby powder to the back of the stickers to remove the tackiness. The stickers become like die cuts and will only stick where you want them too.

Materials Used: (*affiliate link)

Paper House-Lake Life Cardstock Stickers*
Paper House Productions PP-0052E Lake Life Paper Pads, 12″*
or individual sheets ↓
P-2001 Dock on the Lake 12″ Double Sided Scrapbook Paper
P-2002 A Day at the Lake 12″ Double Sided Scrapbook Paper
P-2005 Lake Time Tags 12″ Double Sided Scrapbook Paper
3L Scrapbook Adhesive Permanent Pre-Cut 3D Foam Squares*
Tape Runners*
Kraft Cardstock
Twine
Baby Powder
Paintbrush
Scissors
Paper Cutter

Directions:

Cut a 4″ x 6″ piece of green scrapbook (dock on the lake) layer. Add border sticker strip onto the top and bottom of the layer leaving approx. 1/8″ border.
Adhere the green layer onto a 4 1/4″ x 6 1/4″ piece of brown scrapbook paper (day at the lake) and then onto a 4 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ piece of red (lake time) scrapbook paper.
Create a 5″ x 7″ side fold card from the kraft cardstock.
Adhere scrapbook layers onto kraft card.

5. Create dimensional stickers by adding and layers stickers with 3D foam mounting squares. Add stickers to the front of the card.

6. Wrap twine around the left side of the card and tie with a knot.

Sue’s ADORNit Unboxing Video

You may remember last month when I mentioned that I’d been given the opportunity

I’m not the best at making video’s and this one gave me quite a few unexpected challenges.

Stamping in White Embossing Powder

Good Old Embossing Powder…

When I was introduced to stamping in 1996, do you know what hooked me?

It was the Gold Embossing Powder.

The first time I watched them melt that gold embossing powder. WOW!

At the time, I had a gift store and was looking for something new.

I can’t tell you how many people I hooked with that gold embossing powder.

Here’s a little throwback to where I started.

Back to embossing powder. (this time with a twist)

For this project, I started with a oval that was cut from chipboard.

I rubbed Colorbox White Embossing Pad* onto the surface of the oval.

Next, I poured White Embossing Powder* over the entire oval.

After pouring the excess powder off, heat the oval with a

Multi-Purpose Embossing Heat Tool*.

Make sure all the embossing powder is melted.

Repeat that step 3 or 4 times, building up a thick layer of embossing powder.

After it was thick enough, I added a little red ink to the edge of the oval and

inked up the “Windmill” stamp.

I heated up the oval again, making sure the powder was really hot and melted.

I pressed the inked stamp into the hot, melted powder. Success!

I love the way it looks like red toile. (which is something I collect)

Last night, while watching the “nail biting” World Series…

my daughter texted me asking me if I could locate the picture of her in her cubs outfit.

She’s been a Cub’s fan for quite some time.

I’d forgotten that I had made it into a scrapbook page.

Autumn Woods Pop-Up card and Fall Collage

One of the best things about being on a design team is the opportunity to work with awesome

products. When I got my last box of goodies from Paper House Productions I instantly fell

in love with the Autumn Woods Collection.

The sweet water colored woodland animals are cute without being to cutesy.

I knew as soon as I saw them that they needed to be made into a pop-up card.

Tips…

I apply baby powder on the back of my stickers with a small paintbrush to remove the tackiness. That way I can use my stickers like die-cuts.
On the front of the card: I love adding dimension… so under the “Autumn is in the Air” and the “bunnies” I used 3-D foam mounting squares.
Add even more dimension to the inside of your pop up card by adding thin foam mounting squares to the stickers “tree” and “autumn woods” and strategically placing them on the background.
I created a couple of pop-up steps for my forest friends.
