Holiday Centerpiece or Party Serving Stand

holiday-centerpiece-sues-creative-workshop-2839

Tis the season for Holiday Parties and decorating…

around my house, it’s starting to kick in full steam.

Instead of stressing out, I try to create items with more than one purpose.

My Holiday Centerpiece also works wonderful as a Party Serving Stand.

I started with a Deflecto 3 Tier Dessert Stand* (affiliate link),

wrapping paper, glue stick and cutting mat.

holiday-centerpiece-cutting-the-circles-sues-creative-workshop-2812

  • I traced around all three of my circles onto the back of the wrapping paper.
  • Apply the glue stick generously around and inside the circle.  Lay circle onto wrapping paper and smooth out any air bubbles.  (The nice thing about using wrapping paper and a glue stick is that you can easily remove the paper and glue by soaking stand in warm water.)
  • Trim around circle and inside channels using a craft knife and cutting mat.

  • Glue lace around the outside of each circle and assemble stand.

Add ribbon and holly berries and you’re ready for a party.

Framed Magnetic Family Memo Board

framed-magnetic-family-memo-board-2001

A decorative alternative to the family refrigerator.

This picture of me with my grandsons is one of my favorite photos.

It’s been hanging around on the fridge for a couple of years now.

I decided to make a Framed Magnetic Memo Board that I can hang on the wall and swap out photo’s

in the magnetic frames when ever I feel like it.

framed-magnetic-family-memo-board-2005

  • I started with an old picture frame with the glass removed.
  • I adhered the Magnetic Craft Sheet from Deflecto using double sided adhesive on the frame backing with the black magnetic side up.
  • Next, I covered the black magnetic sheet with a “thin” piece of plaid scrapbook paper and inserted it back into the frame.  (TIP:  using thin paper is the key to the magnetic sheets sticking together)
  • To make the frames:  Cover magnetic sheets with scrapbook paper. Cut magnetic sheet with craft knife and mat or use a wood die cut frame to cut out the frames.
  • You can also create small word magnets using scrapbook paper and the magnetic craft sheets.

Thin metal dies will not work to cut the magnetic sheets, but it would be a great way to store them!

Boo Door Hanger and Autumn Wreath

autum-wreath-and-boo-door-hanger-sues-creative-workshop-1256

The plan was to make the “Boo Door Hanger” and the “Autumn Wreath”

as two separate projects with two separate blog posts.

But… while I was working on decorating my front porch for Fall,

I tried them together and decided I liked it.

The “Boo Door Hanger” is a separate piece that I can remove after Halloween.

fall-wreath-supplies-sues-creative-workshop

I assembled the wreath using a grapevine wreath, a couple of fall silk floral bouquets, ribbon and my

hot melt glue gun.  After cutting the stems apart from the bouquet, I played around with the

arrangement of the flowers and glued them in place.

A simple bow glued into place finished off the Autumn Wreath.

The entire project took less than a half hour.

sign-tags-stickers-and-paper-1119

The Boo Door Hanger was a little more involved…

I used Black Sign Tags that come with a White Wet Erase Marker from Deflecto Craft Solutions

and Halloween paper and stickers from Paper House Productions.

die-cut-frames-1124

I applied the Halloween paper onto thin chipboard and cut out three die-cut frames.

I cut the sign tags just slightly bigger than the opening of the frame and adhered it to the back.

drawing-the-letters-with-the-chalk-marker-1125

I drew in my letters using the white dry erase pen.

Make a mistake?  Just wipe the sign tag with a damp paper towel and start over.

boo-door-hanger-close-up-1127

I punched two holes in the top and bottom of the first two frames and the top only of the last frame.

I added a black eyelet to each hole and connected the frames with small garment pins.

I embellished each frame with Spooktacular 3D Stickers from Paper House Productions.

Remembering Birthdays 7gypsies Style

Remembering Birthdays 7gypsies style

A Clever and Creative Way to Remember Birthdays.

I come from a large and always expanding close knit family.  With all that family,

there’s a lot of birthdays to remember.  As a solution, I decided to make a small desk

top monthly reminder with a funky vintage vibe.

months 9141

I started with these cute little Heirloom Calendar Months that come on one 12″ x 12″

sheet of paper.  You can cut them up and add them to your journals, fold them to make

a mini calendar or birthday book or cut the month artwork to make your own daily or

monthly journal.  Each month features a little piece of art and you can color them to

match your style and journal theme.

Sideview 9156

I used the Heirloom Months along with a variety of Tags, Printed Paper and Ephemera

from Canvas Corp Brands Seven Gypsies Collections.

top of the frame 9163

The base for my Birthday Reminder is a 4″ x 6″ clear craft frame from Deflecto Craft Solutions.

I drilled two holes in the top of the craft frame to hold the antique silver binder rings and

gather everything together.

DIY for Kids: Doodling on Craft Frames

Doodling on Craft Frames 8769

Doodling on clear acrylic craft frames…

a fun little project to make with the kids this summer that will help keep

the kids Happy and Busy.

Print out a few 4th July or Summer Fun pictures in wallet size and pick up a few

supplies and let their creativity soar.  (my frame is 3″ x 4″)

Trace around picture 4089

  • Cut a piece of white paper the size of your frame.
  • Center and trace around the picture on your paper.

Tracr around picture with ruler 4091

Using a pencil and ruler draw your grid lines on the paper.

Retrace pencil marks with black paint pen 04111

Reinsert the paper into the clear acrylic craft frame and retrace the lines.

Using paint pens or sharpies, add additional lines and doodles on the frame.

Tip:  When using paint pens, allow drying time in between adding colors.

Em’s Softball Frame

Emily's Softball Frame 7885

This is my niece Emily and her no#1 fan.  (her mom)

I recently went to one of Emily’s High School Softball games to watch her pitch and take pictures.

I asked Emily if it would be ok to use one of her pictures for one my Design Team Projects.

I’ve used Paper House Productions “Sports Collections” for Guys but it’s also great for girls too.

Em's Softball Frame

For Emily’s frame I used a 5 x 7 Black Border Acrylic Frame from Deflecto Craft Solutions.

Happy Summer 8047

I’m really starting to love this new summer schedule.

Everything seems a little more laid back.

I feel like I’m getting lazier by the minute.

But honestly, I’ve been busier this week than I have in a while.

This week has been full of gardening, cooking out, a couple of really cold dips in the pool,

movies, shopping, a soft ball game and to end out the week…

dance recitals and a retirement party.

And… I don’t want to miss a thing.

Summertime really is Memories just waiting to happen.

Hello Summer Frame 8046

 Paper Sculpting made easy…

Deflecto Stampendous Blog Hop 5022 1

Years ago, when I still had my store, we had a Paper Sculpting Card Class

using of all things a sunflower stamp.  (oh, my…cutting all those petals!!!)

While the end look was beautiful, I thought the ladies were going to revolt.

They held that card over my head for years.  (it was not for the faint of heart)

Matter of fact, I was reminded of that card not that long ago.

Do you love the look of paper sculpting but hate all that fussy cutting?

With this stamp and die set from Stampendous, there is minimal cutting and the flower assembly

goes together very quickly.

The Cling Rose Bouquet Rubber Stamp Set from Stampendous comes with various sizes

of flowers each meant to be used separately or layered together to create one large dimensional flower.

When used with the matching die set, you get amazing results.

Flower Close Up 5015

Here’s what I used on my frame:

Paper Sculpting made easy

Directions:

  1. Stamp the flowers and leaves onto the patterned paper.  (see above image)
  2. Die-cut the shapes using the thin dies and big shot die-cutting machine.
  3. Cut the leaves off the rosebud and the bottom portion of the second stamped rose image.
  4. Use a gray marker to go around the outside edge of each image to hide the white core of the patterned paper.
  5. Using a foam mat or mouse pad and a large ball stylus, turn the shapes over onto the mat and gently rub the shapes with medium pressure on the back of the shapes.  This will give the shapes added dimension.
  6. Using thin foam mounting squares, adhere the flower sections together in this order: large rose, medium rose, rosebud and bottom section of medium rose to create one large rose.
  7. Cut out the 4″ x 6″ What a Wonderful World section and adhere onto a 5″ x 7″ polka dot paper layer.
  8. Add layers inside the clear acrylic beveled frame from Deflecto.
  9. Mount dimensional flowers and leaves onto the front of the frame using thin foam mounting squares.
