Washi Tape Heart Card

I love a clean and simple card, and this Washi Tape Heart Card is so simple to make.

To make the Washi Tape Heart Card…

Create the cut-out heart layer by cutting various sizes of hearts on a 4 3/4″ x 6 3/4″ piece of white cardstock. I used a Silhouette Cameo Electronic Die Cutting Machine*. (You can also use punches or dies to create the hearts.)
Center the cut-out heart layer onto a white 5″ x 7″ card and lightly traced the hearts with a pencil.
Cover the heart outlines with several different strips of coordinating washi tape pieces.
Use a tape runner to adhere to the cut-out heart layer onto the front of the card, aligning it with the washi tape.

A Clean and Simple Valentines Day Card.

Just stamp a simple greeting onto the front of the card,

or you could cut the words out of red glossy craft vinyl as I did.

I’m glad my husband doesn’t read my blog.

This card will make a perfect Valentine’s Day card for him.

I want to share with you the perfect organizer for holding washi tape.

The small three-drawer organizer* from Deflecto was made with washi tape in mind.

Each of the three drawers are divided and can hold a lot of washi tape.

Twenty Twenty is “clearly” going to be a year of stupid puns and silly memes.

We might as well get used to it.

So, if you can’t beat them, you might as well join them.

Joy Iron-on Embroidered Letters are great for making creative and funny t-shirts,

they’re also great for making creative and funny signs.

Here’s what I used to make my 2020 Canvas:

10″ x 10″ Canvas*
DecoArt Titanium White Americana Acrylics*
DecoArt Navy Blue Americana Acrylic Paint*
Paintbrush
Joy Iron On Embroidered Letters and Numbers
Blue Painter’s Tape*
Beacon Fabri-Tac Adhesive*
Americana Classic Stencil – Jacobean Floral*
Stencil Brush*
Flower Embellishments
Small Eye Glasses
Silhouette Cameo Electronic Die Cutting Machine*

Directions:

Paint the entire canvas with a generous amount of white acrylic paint. While the white paint is still wet, softly blend the navy blue paint.

Once the canvas has dried. Position the Jacobean Floral Stencil* onto the corner of the canvas and tape down the edges with removable painter’s tape to keep the stencil from moving.
Use a stipple brush to lightly apply white acrylic paint inside open stencil areas.

The stenciling creates a nice subtle background.
Stencil all four corners of the canvas.

To keep the numbers and letters straight, use a piece of blue painters tape on the canvas.
Glue letters and numbers onto the canvas using Fabri Tac Adhesive.

To make it a little more “Punny”…I created glasses out of cardstock using my Silhouette Cameo Electronic Die Cutting Machine*. To make the glasses more sturdy, I made three of each size and stacked and glued them together.
Glue glasses and flower embellishments onto canvas.

How to make a Plaid Tidings Embroidery Hoop Ornament

I guess you might say I’ve gone a little overboard on the Buffalo Plaid this year.

How can I help myself, I just love it all.

I got a little inspired by a Christmas ad I saw for clothes and decided to make this ornament.

It’s another quick and easy Holiday Ornament to make.

A perfect little gift for your Plaid Loving friends like me.

Joy White Iron On Embroidered Letters, Baby Monogram
Black & Red Buffalo Plaid Flannel Fabric
Iron*
Scissors*
4″ Round Embroidery Hoop*
DecoArt Americana Multi-Surface Satin Acrylic Paint, Black Tie*
Craft Pine Stems*
Beacon 3-in-1 Advanced Craft Glue*
Ribbon and Red Jute Twine*
Jingle Bell

Directions:

Paint the embroidery hoop with black acrylic paint.
Cut a piece of flannel that is larger than the hoop.
Arrange the Joy® Baby Monogram Embroidered Iron On Letters shiny side down onto the flannel and inside the hoop to make sure they fit.
Set iron to cotton setting, approx. 350° or follow fabric care label.
Cover letters with a fine cloth. With firm pressure iron cloth over the letters for 25 seconds.
Turn flannel over and iron the back of the letters for 25 seconds.
Allow 1 minute to cool before handling.

Insert the flannel into the embroidery hoop and tighten.
Trim the excess flannel from around the embroidery hoop.
Glue pine craft stem around the outside edge of the hoop.
Embellish the hoop with ribbon and jingle bell.
Add a piece of red twine to hang.

A Christmas Ornament with Special Meaning.

The holidays are especially hard for people who have lost loved ones.

The year I lost my Dad, right before Christmas, I found it really hard to celebrate.

I found myself just going through the motions.

This year, I decided to make a special ornament to place on my tree to remind me

that my loved ones will always be in my heart.

At Christmas Time and Every Day.

To make my ornament…

I used a simple whitewashed wood ornament that I picked up at Michael’s.

I cut the words “Always in my Heart” using my Silhouette Cameo Electronic Die Cutting Machine* out of matte black self adhesive vinyl from Styletech Craft.

Directions:

Using an electronic die cutting machine, I cut the words.
Using a weeding tool carefully remove the negative spaces in and around the letters.
Place a piece of Vinyl Transfer Tape* over the letters. Rub over the letters using a vinyl scraper tool to help the vinyl cling
Apply words onto the whitewashed wood heart.

A simple little ornament and a whole lot of love.

Simple Country Christmas Vase

Create a sweet Country Christmas Vase with a little help using Joy Iron On Embroidered Letters.

Supplies Used:

Joy White Baby Monogram Iron On Embroidered Letters*
Small Woodslice with Drilled Hole*
DecoArt Americana Multi-Surface Red Hot Acrylic Paint*
Ball Quart Mason Jar*
Ivory Spray Paint
Sanding Block*
Beacon 3-in-1 Craft Glue*
Ribbon (Michaels Craft Store)
Red Berries Stems*
Greenery
Small Wood Star

Directions:

Spray the mason jar with a couple coats of ivory colored spray paint.

2. After the paint has dried, lightly sand the jar to remove the paint off the letters.

3. Drill a hole on the top of a small wood slice and paint the center with red acrylic paint.
4. Glue the embroidered letters and wood star onto the wood slice with craft glue.
5. Tie ribbon around the neck of the jar and add embellished wood slice.

Buffalo Plaid Potholders

Crisp air, falling leaves, and a big pot of soup to warm you up…

Just a few of the reasons I love Fall.

So while you’re warming things up…

Warm up your plain potholder and add a little personality with Joy Iron-On Embroidered letters.

Supplies needed:

Joy Iron-On Embroidered Letters
Cotton Potholders
Iron
Pressing Cloth

Directions:

Remove letters from the sheet.
Position letters shiny side down on potholder.
Cover letters with a clean cloth.
With firm pressure iron cloth over the letters for 30 seconds.
Turn potholder over and iron the reverse side for an additional 30 seconds.
Allow to cool 1 minute before using.

Shared Kindness…

Blessings are the Harvest of Kindness

When I create, I create projects for a variety of reasons.

Sometimes the project helps me tell a story.

This particular project reminded me of a sweet exchange that happened between

my mom and a stranger several years ago.

Just a reminder… World Kindness Day is November 13th.

Please take a moment to spread a little kindness.

Shared kindness…

After eating lunch with my parents and sister at the local Steak and Shake,

Dad got up to pay the bill at the counter. I stayed back to help Mom.

When Mom got up, she noticed a lady sitting at a nearby table and said, “I know her”.

Mom was in later stages of dementia, so I questioned her, “I don’t think we do Mom” I said.

As I was trying to get her to leave, she said: “I want to talk to her, I know her.”

The lady must have heard us and looked up. I quietly asked, “Does she know you?”

Mom had worked at a school for many years, and she knew a lot of people that I didn’t.

The lady shook her head no.

Then without missing a beat, the lady got up, put my mom’s hand in hers and said:

“So, you think you know me?” and introduced herself.

After Mom struggled to get her name out, the woman smiled and said, “so nice to meet you”.

And with that, my mom was happy and left the restaurant with a smile on her face.

It only took a minute for this sweet woman to make a difference.

Mom’s been gone for a while now, but It’s something I’ve never forgotten.

Vinyl Transfer Tape*
Silhouette Cameo Electronic Die Cutting Machine*
StyleTechCraft Vinyl Tools*
3 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ Thin Wood Rectangle
Sanding Block*
Paintbrush
DecoArt Americana Country Red Acrylic Paint*
DecoArt Americana Multi-Surface Muted Gold Acrylic Paint*
Decoart Americana Multi Surface Inch Worm Acrylic Paint*

Directions:

Lightly sand the wooden rectangle with the sanding block to prepare the surface for paint.
Paint four horizontal autumn hued stripes on the wood.
With a flat dry brush blend the colors together to create a “Fall Rainbow”.
Lightly sand over the painted surface to smooth the grain of the wood.

Using an electronic die cutting machine, I cut the words.
Using a weeding tool carefully remove the negative spaces in and around the letters.
Place a piece of Vinyl Transfer Tape* over the letters. Rub over the letters using a vinyl scraper tool to help the vinyl cling
Apply words onto a small wood rectangle.
