How to make a Flower Power Shaker Card.

One of my favorite cards to make is a shaker card.

I love using dimension and movement.

Did you know that vinyl is perfect for cardmaking?

For my card, I used StyleTechCraft Green Opal Adhesive Craft Vinyl*.

The Opal Vinyl is a color-shifting vinyl that takes on a different look

depending on how you hold it.

StyleTechCraft Transfer Tape*
StyleTechCraft Scraper Tool* and Weeding Pen*
Silhouette Cameo Electronic Die-Cutting Machine*
“Daisy Background” SVG Cut File from the Silhouette Store
Clear Acetate Sheet*
Scor-tape*
Double Sided Foam Strips*
Shaker Sprinkles*
Cardstock

Directions:

Cut the “Daisy Background” using Opal Vinyl and the Silhouette Die Cutting Machine. (I sized the image to a 3 ¼” x 3 ¼” design.)
Remove the excess vinyl around the design using a Vinyl Weeding Pen*.
Cut a piece of transfer tape and place it over the vinyl design.
Gently rub over the design with the Scraper Tool*.

I cut a simple cardstock frame using my Silhouette Die-Cutting Machine. My frame measures 4 ½” x 4 ½”. The inside cutout measures 3 ½” x 3 ½”, which leaves a ½” border around the frame.
Cut a 4 ¼” x 4 ¼” piece of clear acetate. (My acetate has a blue protective coating on both sides.) Place Scor-tape* around the border of the frame.
Remove the protective coating from both sides of the acetate. (If yours has them.)
Place acetate over the sticky Scor-tape*.

Remove the design from the vinyl backing sheet using the transfer paper.
Place the design onto the acetate on the front of the frame.

Cut a piece of cardstock 4 ¼” x 4 ¼”.
Cut thin strips from the adhesive foam sheet.
Adhere the strips to the back of the frame.
Add iridescent shaker sprinkles inside the frame. (Do not overfill with shaker sprinkles.)
Adhere the 4 ¼” piece of cardstock to the back of the frame to create your shaker element.

Adhere the shaker to a 5″ x 5″ card.

Stamp a small greeting onto cardstock. Notch one end to create a banner.
Adhere the greeting to the front of the card.

How to Make a Not So Spooky Halloween Shaker Card.

When it comes to anything Halloween, I like it more “cute” than scary. (big chicken here)

Directions:

I used the Halloween Scene from the Tricks and Treats paper pad for the base of my card. I cut off a 1/2″ off both sides of the paper, making it 5″ x 6″. (The finished card measures 5 1/4″ x 6 1/4″.)
Die-cut a large scalloped square frame out of the purple plaid paper from the paper pad.
Die-cut a large foam square using the foam cutter die. The foam square will fit under the scalloped square frame.
Because I didn’t want the white sides of the foam showing in my shaker element, I used black calligraphy (chisel point) paint marker to color the outside and inside of the foam square. Place the foam square onto the card base. (as shown above)
Add “Tricks and Treats” shaker sprinkles into the center of the foam square.
Cut a 3 1/4″ x 3 1/4″ piece of clear acetate. Remove the blue protective covering from both sides of the acetate.
Remove the top protective coating from the foam square and place the acetate onto the foam.
Add adhesive under the purple plaid scalloped square and place it over the acetate lined up with the foam square.

Die-Cutting Tip…

When cutting small die-cut pieces, I like to run the paper through the Xyron Create a Sticker Mini*. After die-cutting, they become little stickers. That makes applying the die-cuts a whole lot easier.

Apply the Spider Web die-cut onto the inside corner of the shaker element.
Add the words “Happy Halloween” onto the front of the card.

I enjoy making cards with dimension and movement.

I think this is one of the simplest shaker cards I’ve made so far.

Directions:

Die-cut all the layers for the card using the Slimline Essentials Die.
Cut three white scalloped squares.
Center the small square die in the middle of the scallop square. Put a small piece of washi tape over the die to keep it in place. Die-cut to create a small, scalloped frame.

Place a piece of double-sided craft foam onto the square foam cutter die to cut small foam squares to use under the scallop frames.

To Create a Center Shaker Element.

Adhere a small piece of clear acetate to fit over the opening of the frame.
Because the foam frames didn’t match the frame I created, I cut the foam frames on the corners and placed them over the acetate.
Using only red and white heart sprinkles, fill the inside of the frame with the sprinkles. Be careful not to overfill so that there is room to shake.
Remove the protective lining on the foam and place a small piece of scrapbook paper over the foam.

Embellish the front of the card using hearts popped up with double-sided adhesive foam and the word “love” die-cut using the “Special Delivery” die set.
