This Fall, I was invited to a lovely outdoor wedding by the lake for this special couple.

After seeing their wedding photos, I knew I wanted to make them a Photo Transfer

Ornament for their first Christmas together.

I swiped the little wood hearts used on the front of the ornament off the center

of the table where I was sitting. (with good intentions, of course)

Photo Transfer Ornaments are a great way to celebrate special occasions during

the Holidays. And they make great personalized gifts.

Materials Used: (*affiliate link)

Photocopy of the Picture you plan on using.
Mod Podge Photo Transfer Medium*
Unfinished Natural with Tree Bark Wood Slices*
Paintbrush
Scissors, Pencil
Sponge
Mod Podge Gloss Finish*
Screw Eye Hook
Twine and Ribbon

DIY Wedding Photo Transfer Ornament

Directions:

Very Important… You must use a photocopy made from a dry toner type copier. (Do not use the actual photograph, trust me, it will not work.) Try your local office supply store that makes copies.
Lay the wood slice over the photocopy and trace around the wood slice. Cut around the traced lines.

Using a paintbrush, brush over the image with a medium application of Mod Podge Photo Transfer Medium*. The transfer medium will be opaque.
Carefully lift the image, making contact only slightly with the image edge. Flip the coated image over and position it over the wood slice. Lightly press from the center out to release any air bubbles. Wipe away any excess medium that may have been squeezed out.
Allow drying overnight.

Wet a sponge with water, squeeze excess water from the sponge then dampen the exposed backside of the image transfer. Immediately as the paper is wet, an image will appear. Allow the wet image to rest a couple of moments to soften the paper.
Using your damp sponge or a fingertip, begin to lightly rub over the damp paper to peel away layers. Be careful not to be rough with the wet paper as it may be fragile. After removing several layers of paper, stop and allow the transferred image to dry. Once dry, white areas will appear where paper remains. Repeat steps to moisten and lightly rub the surface to remove the remaining paper layers. Allow to dry.

Brush a coat of Mod Podge Matte Finish* or Mod Podge Gloss Finish* over the project surface to bring out the colors and to seal and protect.
Add a screw eye on the top of the wood slice for twine and ribbon.

How to make a Photo Transfer Ornament for your Christmas Tree.

Our sweet little guy, Dexter, is turning one year old tomorrow.

And of course, this will be his very first Christmas.

I thought he needed his very own ornament on the tree. He is family.

Materials Used: (*affiliate links)

Photo Copy of the Picture you plan on using.
Mod Podge Photo Transfer Medium*
Unfinished Natural with Tree Bark Wood Slices*

A little about Dexter…

We added Dexter to our family on Feb. 12th of this year. (A slightly impulsive move.)

Dexter is a Shichon Teddy Bear Pup, which is a Bichon Frise, and a Shih Tzu mix.

He is the sweetest, softest, friendliest little dog I’ve ever known.

While Dexter isn’t technically a quarantine puppy, he sure has been a great distraction.

Because of him, I’ve been on more walks (at least once a day), met more neighbors,

and go outside more than ever before. (He’s been good for us.)

I think more people in the neighborhood knows his name more than mine.

He’s been a great addition to our Family!

I love using wood slices in projects.

If you’re lucky, and you have lots of trees, chances are you may have a log or two that you

could cut off a slice. If not, with the popularity of wood slices* you can easily find them online,

or in the craft department of your favorite store.

Buffalo Plaid Wood Slice Pumpkin

To get the color I wanted for the base of my pumpkin. I mixed Orange Twist and Jack-O-Lantern acrylic paint.
Paint just to the inside edge of the pumpkin slice. Leave the outer bark showing.

How to make a Buffalo Plaid Wood Slice Pumpkin

Add strips of painter’s tape onto the pumpkin to make stripes. Rub your finger over the tape to make sure that the tape is securely on the pumpkin and has no gaps.
Paint inside the stripes with a thin coat of white birch acrylic paint. Be careful not to apply the paint too thick. Only one thin coat of paint is needed.
Remove painter’s tape.
Allow paint to fully dry before continuing to the next step.

Rotate the frame 180° and apply the tape in the opposite direction. Make sure the tape is securely down.
Paint additional stripes with a light coat of dolphin (light gray) acrylic paint.

Remove the painter’s tape. Allow the paint to dry.
Lightly sand the wood slice. Sanding brings out the wood-grain and helps to hide any little imperfections.
Wipe with a clean cloth.

Cut a small 2″ piece from a tree branch to use for the stem.
I also used a “home” wood word picked up at the craft store for my pumpkin.
Hot glue the stem onto the top of the pumpkin. Hot glue the word “Home” on the front of the pumpkin.

How to make a Buffalo Plaid Wood Slice Pumpkin

To give my Pumpkin a little extra support while sitting on my mantel, I hot glued a small wood piece (cut from an old scrabble tray) to the back of the pumpkin. Because the wood slice is not perfectly round, you may have to offset it a bit.
Tie raffia around the stem and hot glue a small button bow with faux fall berries onto the pumpkin. You can find instructions on how to make a button bow here.

Simple Country Christmas Vase

Create a sweet Country Christmas Vase with a little help using Joy Iron On Embroidered Letters.

Supplies Used:

Joy White Baby Monogram Iron On Embroidered Letters*
Small Woodslice with Drilled Hole*
DecoArt Americana Multi-Surface Red Hot Acrylic Paint*
Ball Quart Mason Jar*
Ivory Spray Paint
Sanding Block*
Beacon 3-in-1 Craft Glue*

Directions:

Spray the mason jar with a couple coats of ivory colored spray paint.

2. After the paint has dried, lightly sand the jar to remove the paint off the letters.

3. Drill a hole on the top of a small wood slice and paint the center with red acrylic paint.
4. Glue the embroidered letters and wood star onto the wood slice with craft glue.
5. Tie ribbon around the neck of the jar and add embellished wood slice.

How to Make Wood Slice Snowmen

**What to do with a basket of Wood Slices*…**

This past summer, when my husband was trimming the old pine tree,

I asked him to save a few logs from the branches.

I wasn’t sure then what I was planning to make but I knew I wanted to save some just in case.

I asked my husband to cut wood slices out of the smaller logs using a circular saw.

If you don’t have access to a pine log or don’t feel like cutting Wood Slices*

you can also purchase them online.

**For those of you who don’t want to cut your own Wood Slices*.**

Make sure to double check sizes before ordering.

I picked out four wood slices of varying sizes.

I laid out the wood slices to determine placement of how I wanted them to go together.

I drilled small holes on the end of the wood slices with a fine drill bit approx. 1/4-1/2″ into the

end of the wood.

Using small dowel rods or bamboo skewers for reinforcement, I inserted the rods into the

holes with a squirt of DecoArt Americana Wood Glue*. (*affiliate link)

Each wood slice has a small wood dowel piece in between to hold the snowman together.

Once the wood slice snowman was completely dry and stable,

I drilled a hole in the center of the largest wood slice to use as my base.

The Snowman is attached to the base using a small dowel and wood glue*.

To decorate the snowman…

Cut a piece of flannel slightly larger than the area around the head.
Fold and glue a small cuff using Fabri-Tac Permanent Adhesive*.
Glue the ends of the flannel together to create a tall “tube”.
Glue tube onto the top of the Wood Slice Snowman’s head,
Tie the top of the tube with a piece of string or thread.
Trim and fringe the excess fabric on the top of the tube to make it look like a hat tassel.
Cut a longer 1″ wide piece of flannel to tie around the neck of the snowman. Don’t forget to fringe the ends.

To make a Reindeer Wood Slice Ornament…

Paint the center of the wood slice with black chalkboard paint.
Paint the reindeer cut out with silver acrylic paint.
Glue reindeer onto wood slice with quick dry glue.
Glue glitter holly berries embellishment onto reindeer.
I used a push pin to start a small hole on the end of the wood slice.
Screw a loop screw into the hole and add a ribbon to hang.
