How to make a Happy Haunts Pop Up Card:

  • First, pick out some fun patterned paper.  There are so many cute patterns available to choose from it really doesn’t matter if it’s the same as mine.
  • Stamp your pumpkins on orange patterned paper.  If your paper is thin, run the strip of orange paper through the Xyron Create a Sticker Mini* and place it onto black cardstock.

  • One pumpkin stamp has a hole in the center with space to add a face.  Perfect for stamping multiples.
  • You’ll need to stamp 7 pumpkins.

  • Cut two 2 1/2″ x 6 strips of black patterned paper.
  • Tip:  Run both pieces of paper, pattern side up, through the Xyron Create a Sticker Mini*  to add adhesive to the back of the paper.  This is really helpful when die-cutting intricate shapes.
  • Adhere one strip onto a piece of black cardstock before die-cutting.  (this will be used for the inside of card.)
  • Die-cut both strips of paper using the house die.  (one is a sticker for the front of the card.)
  • Add thin foam mounting squares* to the back of the die-cut houses with the black cardstock.  (Tip:  cut a few foam mounting squares in half before applying.)

I couldn’t find the perfect night sky background for my card so I created my own.

  • Cut a 3 3/4″ x 5 3/4″ piece of watercolor paper.
  • Using an ink applicator, rub blue dye ink onto the surface of the paper.
  • Add a few swirls of white ink onto the paper.
  • Using a mini spray bottle, lightly mist the paper with water.  The water will allow the inks to blend leaving a soft speckled appearance on the paper.
  • Dry with hair dryer.

If you have the perfect background paper, you can eliminate these steps.↑

  • Cut a piece of green patterned paper 5 3/4″ x 7 1/2″ and fold in half lengthwise.
  • Cut a piece of patterned paper (mine was woodgrain) 3 3/4″ x 5 3/4″.  Adhere this paper onto one half of the green patterned paper.
  • On the outside folded edge, make a pencil mark at 1 1/4″ and 4 1/2″.  (see diagram)
  • Cut a 3/4″ line up on each measurement.
  • Score and fold paper between cuts.  (Use a bone folder for crisper folds.)

  • Open card and push folded and scored section into middle of the card.

  • Lay the neighborhood die-cut onto your blue background.  Use a pencil to trace the bottom swirl of the die-cut.
  • Cut paper along pencil line.
  • Adhere the cut top of the blue background paper onto the top of the brown woodgrain paper on the inside of your card.
  • Using the house die-cut with the black cardstock and foam mounting squares, adhere the neighborhood over the edge of the blue background paper.

  • Add three pumpkins to the front of the center pop-up.  On the middle pumpkin add a foam mounting square for extra dimension.
  • Adhere a couple pumpkins to the background.

  • Add black die-cut bat with a foam mounting square to the sky background.
  • Add an extra pumpkin or two and stamp the words “Trick or Treat” to finish off the inside.
  • Cut a piece of black cardstock 6″ x 7 3/4″.  Fold in half to create outside card.
  • Center and adhere the pop-up section into the center of the black card.  Adhere one half section at a time.)

  • Decorate front of the card similar to the inside of the card.

For a completely different look, a simple water colored card made with the same pumpkins.

Bunny Table Favor with Rinea Foil

Create a cute little Bunny Treat Box to adorn your table this Easter.

To make the Bunny Table Favor…

I used Rinea Foiled Paper, a paper lined with colorful vibrant metal foil on both sides.

This German inspired paper holds its shape, looks like foil and works like paper.

The Bunny Table Favor is a fun project to make even the littlest guest feel special.

Directions:

  • To add adhesive to the back of the Rinea Foiled Paper lay the paper onto the  Xyron Creative Station* crank the handle to run the paper through the machine.  As it moves through the Xyron Creative Station it adds adhesive to the back side of the paper.  Easy to use and it doesn’t need electricity.

  • Apply Rinea Foiled Paper onto the front and back of pre-cut chipboard pieces.
  • Place the double sided foiled chipboard pieces onto the (discontinued) Easter Elements Die and run through the Sizzix Big Shot Die Cut Machine* to cut out the Bunny Shapes.
  • FYI…the Sizzix Cottontail Die is very similar to the bunny I used.

  • Cut two double-sided blush foiled bunny shapes.
  • Cut two 2 ½” x 1 ½” and two 1 ½” x 1 ½” pieces of double-sided silver foiled chipboard.
  • Cut a 2 ½” x 3 ½” piece of double-sided pastel green foiled chipboard.
  • To cover up the brown core of the chipboard, use the DecoColor Premium Silver Leaf Pen* to go around the edge of each piece of cut chipboard.

  • I used Beacon 3 in 1 Glue* to glue the four silver sides of the box onto the pastel green base.
  • Glue the pink foiled bunnies to both sides of the box.

  • Cut a 2″ x 2 ½” piece of pastel green foil.  Tightly roll foil using a bamboo skewer, add a little glue along the edge of the roll to keep roll from unraveling.
  • Cut small cuts into the top of the foil to create fringe.
  • Create two and glue to the front and back of the box.

  • Punch a couple small pastel purple daisies, curl and form into a petite flower.
  • Glue flower to the front of the box.
  • Cut several thin 6″ strips of pastel green foil.  Wrap foil paper around the bamboo skewer to form little spirals.
  • Use spirals as the filler inside the treat box.  (The foil paper holds its shape well.)

Fill Bunny Table Favor with candy treats and add to your Easter Table.

Personalize your Christmas Stocking with Joy

Taking a simple stocking from plain to personality is easy with Joy embroidered letters…

I picked up a simple linen stocking at my local craft store.

It was nice enough, but it needed some personality.

I decided to embellish the stocking with Joy iron-on letters, ribbons and trim.

Here’s what I used on my stocking:                (*amazon affiliate link)

Directions:

  • Depending on the fabric and lining content of your stocking, you can either iron on the letters or glue them onto the stocking with craft glue.
  • Make a simple bow by folding the ribbon over and tying the center tight with the twine.
  • Add a jingle bell and a small piece of pine craft stem to the center of the bow and tie again with the twine.
  • Add button to both ends of the twine and tie to the center of the bow.
  • Trim the ends of the bow.
  • I switched out the plain wood button on the center of the button for one that better fits my style.
  • Glue trim and bow onto the front of the stocking with craft glue.
  • Embellish with a Christmas pin.
  • Add presents or greenery and berries to the inside of the stocking.

You could hang that stocking from the mantel or….

Doesn’t it make a great addition in the center of my Christmas Wreath.

You can find Joy® iron-on, embroidered letters and number sheets in a variety of sizes, colors, and fonts at your local craft stores.

Felt Santa Claus with Kunin Felt

A Cute Santa Claus made with Kunin Felt.

While at the Creativation Show last January in Phoenix,

I saw an adorable Gnome project at the Kunin Felt Booth made entirely from felt.

I fell in love with the project and knew immediately that I wanted to make it over into a

Santa Claus to make with the ladies during my annual Sue’s Holiday Workshop.

(I asked the Gnome’s designer Debra Quartermain and got her blessing.)

Here’s Debra’s Gnome Project and PDF Pattern on the Kunin Felt Blog.

I only changed the directions a little bit to make the Santa Claus.

Here’s what I used:

  • 9″ x 12″ Kunin Red Corduroy Felt
  • Kunin White Craft Felt
  • Two Small Pom Poms
  • Beacon Fabri-Tac Adhesive* or Felt Glue
  • Scissors
  • Pencil or Marker for Tracing
  • Gnome Pattern
  • Tan Marker
  • Small Wood Snowflake painted white

Directions:

  1. Download and print the Gnome Pattern from the Kunin Blog.
  2. Trace pattern pieces onto red and white felt and cut out.
  3. I made my Santa Hat a little larger than the hat used on the Gnome pattern.
  4. Roll red hat into a cone and glue.
  5. Glue white pom pom onto the tip of the hat.  You may need to snip the tip before gluing.
  6. Roll Santa body into a cone and overlap ends and glue.
  7. Lay beard in place on body.
  8. Place hat over beard (refer to picture) and adjust if needed.
  9. Glue both pieces into place.
  10. Glue mustache pieces to beard.
  11. Lightly add a little color using the tan marker to a white pom pom.
  12. Glue pom pom to the center of the mustache.
  13. Cut long, thin strips of white felt.
  14. Glue strips of felt onto the top brim of the hat and onto the bottom of the Santa body.
  15. Glue wood snowflake onto the Santa hat.

A special thanks to Debra Quartermain and Kunin Felts for this adorable project.

Wild Whisper Christmas

Making a Christmas Card from non-Christmas paper.

You don’t always need traditional Christmas paper and embellishments to make

a Christmas card.

One of the perks of being on the Xyron Design Team is receiving product from partnering

companies like Wild Whisper.

I recently received Wild Whisper’s “forever & always” collection…

a soft mix of paper including backgrounds of banners and labels.

I considered making an everyday type project, but, since I’m currently in full blown

“Christmas Crazy”, a Christmas card was in order.

I cut out a few banners and labels from the background paper.

I added letter and number stickers to create my holiday embellishments.

My Xyron Creative Station* made quick work of putting the layers together.

I added a  small wood snowflake, sheer white ribbon and adhesive pearl rhinestones

to finish off the card.  I like the non-traditional soft peach and blue.   (It’s not my usual red.)

Let it Snow Painted Canvas

A Simple DIY Holiday Canvas

Christmas came early for the Xyron Design Team  and I love a good present.

We all received a wonderful box of paints and supplies from Derwent Academy.

It’s been a while since I’ve painted with acrylics on canvas so I decided to keep it

simple and festive.

I painted my canvas with a mixture of Cerulean Blue, Phthalo Blue, Ultramarine Blue

and Titanium White.  I was going for a “snowy sky”.

I added a few stenciled snowflakes on the corners and then splattered the canvas with

titanium white paint using an old toothbrush.   (I kept it really simple)

I used random chipboard letters and painted them with a mixture of Cobalt Blue and

Purple Violet to make them all match.

After the letters had dried, I stamped them with silver ink.

I used my Xyron 9″Creative Station* to add adhesive to the back of the chipboard letters

before adhering them to my canvas.  I even used it on the large white wood snowflake.

I added the canvas to an antiqued silver frame for a cute Holiday Decoration.

Here’s the Derwent links to the products I used:

Christmas Magic Mini Tag Album

How to Create a Christmas Magic Mini Tag Album…

I decided to create a mini tag album using the left over paper and stickers from my

Creating A Miniature “Christmas Magic” Room with Graphic 45 and Xyron  project.

It’s a cute way to show off a few of your favorite holiday photos.  (It  also makes a nice gift.)

How to make a Christmas Magic Mini Tag Album                                 (*amazon affiliate link)

  • Create a chipboard tag by running two pieces of  Graphic 45 Christmas Magic* paper through the Xyron Creative Station*.  Cover both sides of the chipboard with the paper.
  • Cut Chipboard using a Tag die-cut to use as the front and back cover of the album.
  • Accent the edges of the covers using a Gold DecoColor Paint Pen*.
  • Create small tags by placing a sticker on a small piece of chipboard.  Add a coordinating piece of paper onto the back of the small tag.  Trim around tags.
  • Cut extra tag pages using the die-cut and Christmas Magic paper.

  • Embellish the cover with stickers, ribbon, wood snowflake, jingle bell and additional tags.
  • Add a medium sized book ring to hold the album together.

Happy Holidays Chalkboard Sign

How to Create a Happy Holidays Chalkboard Sign with a Simple Button Bow.

I really enjoy working with vinyl and love coming up with simple Holiday DIY projects.

The Happy Holidays Sign was one of the projects we created in last month’s Holiday Workshop.

For my sign, I used Styletech Craft’s Ultra Metallic Glitter Adhesive Vinyl in red, green and

white.  The Ultra Metallic Glitter Vinyl has a white backing which ensures the colors stay bright

and true no matter what surface you apply it too.

To start my project…                                                                                 (*amazon affiliate links)

  • I used a piece of Wood Hardboard*.  (it’s like a hole-less peg board) I cut mine 5 1/2 x 7 1/2″.
  • Drill two small 3/8″ holes in the top of the board to use for hanging the sign.
  • Paint the board using DecoArt Black Chalkboard Paint*.
  • Lightly sand the board using 3M Sandpaper, 220-Grit*.  This smooths the board and allows a little bit of the brown board to show through for a vintage look.
  • Wipe the board with a clean soft cloth.

*Disclosure:  This blog uses ads and affiliate links.  If you choose to make a purchase using one of the links, I receive a small commission (at no additional cost to you) that helps offset the costs of maintaining this blog.  Thanks for your support!

  • I applied the words on the chalkboard using Styletech Clear Vinyl Transfer Tape*.
  • I applied the word “Holidays” first and lined the word “Happy” over top.
  • Cut a small white snowflake using white ultra metallic vinyl and add onto the sign above the word happy.
  • Create a “Button Bow”  for the top of your “Happy Holidays Chalkboard Sign”.
  • Directions for “button bow” below.
  • Add twine to the two top holes for hanging.
  • Glue Button Bow onto the top of the “Happy Holidays Chalkboard Sign” using craft glue*.

Creating fun and funny personalized tees for the Holidays are a snap with the help of

Joy® Embroidered Iron-on Letters.

My grandsons are good sports and will usually let me take their pictures for my projects.

We took this picture the day before Halloween.  They weren’t really into Christmas pictures.

In the picture, Nicholas is giving me his best “grinchy” face.

His mom said his shirt should read “Grandma made me do it”.

Here’s What You’ll Need:
