Christmas Tree Card

Although I don’t always send a ton of handmade Christmas cards out, I do enjoy making them.

The Christmas Tree card was made using paper and stickers from Paper House Productions.

I love how the playful plaids blend perfectly together to form a Traditional Christmas feel

in this layered card. Enjoy! (makes me feel like singing “O’ Christmas Tree…”)

Merry Christmas 3D Sticker
Red Flannel 12″ Double Sided Scrapbook Paper
Deck the Halls 12″ Double Sided Scrapbook Paper
Spellbinders S4-414 Nestabilities Captivating Squares Die Templates *
Spellbinders Twenty-Two Labels *
Cardstock: Metallic Gold, Green and Black
1/4″ Red Double Faced Satin Ribbon
Pine Craft Stems
Calligraphy Paint Marker, Gold *
Red Adhesive Rhinestones
Double Stick Tape Runner
Red Adhesive Rhinestones
Craft Glue
Die Cut Machine
Paper Trimmer

Directions:

Cut a 4 1/2″ x 6″ piece of “red flannel” paper. Hold the edge of the paper against the nib of the gold calligraphy marker to add a thin gold border on the edge of the paper. Adhere the red flannel layer onto a 4 3/4″ x 6 1/4″ piece of black cardstock.
Adhere the red flannel and black layers onto a 5″ x 6 1/2″ green card base.
Cut the “deck the halls” paper (green plaid) using the “labels twenty two” die. Add a thin gold border around the edge of the label like in step #1. Adhere the green plaid label onto a 3 1/4″ x 3 1/4″ gold metallic cardstock layer.
Cut a decorative square using the “captivating square” die and a piece of green cardstock. Adhere the green plaid label and gold metallic square onto the top of the decorative square.
Adhere the green and gold layers onto the bottom portion on the red flannel layer, leaving even spacing on the bottom three sides.
Assemble the pine swag using the 3D stickers and glue onto the top of the card. (picture below)
Finish embellishing the front of the card with the 3D Christmas Tree sticker and a couple of red adhesive rhinestones.

Artist’s Loft Back-Stapled Traditional Canvas 3″ x 9″*
Americana Multi Purpose Satin: Dark Scarlet* and Cotton Ball*
Paintbrush
Deco Art Media Crackle Glaze, 4-Ounce, Clear*
DecoArt Craft Twinkles Writers Paint, 2-Ounce, Crystal*
American Crafts Glitter, Extra Fine White*
Beacon Fabri-Tac Permanent Adhesive, 4-Ounce*
Red and White Twine*
Greenery
Jingle Bells
Ribbon

Directions:

Paint the 3″ x 9″ canvas* with Dark Scarlet* paint and let dry.
Paint the red canvas with a thick coat of Deco Art Media Crackle Glaze*. The thicker the coat the deeper the cracks. Allow plenty of time for the glaze to dry.

Lightly white wash the canvas with Cotton Ball Multi Surface Acrylic Paint* to bring out the crackling.
Wipe excess paint off with a clean cloth.

Paint each letter with glitter glue*and sprinkle with extra fine white glitter*.
Glue letters onto the canvas with Beacon Fabri-Tac Permanent Adhesive*. (leave space on the left of the canvas for embellishing)

Wrap twine around canvas and embellish with jingle bells, greenery and bow.

Holiday Centerpiece or Party Serving Stand

Tis the season for Holiday Parties and decorating…

around my house, it’s starting to kick in full steam.

Instead of stressing out, I try to create items with more than one purpose.

My Holiday Centerpiece also works wonderful as a Party Serving Stand.

I started with a Deflecto 3 Tier Dessert Stand* (affiliate link),

wrapping paper, glue stick and cutting mat.

I traced around all three of my circles onto the back of the wrapping paper.
Apply the glue stick generously around and inside the circle. Lay circle onto wrapping paper and smooth out any air bubbles. (The nice thing about using wrapping paper and a glue stick is that you can easily remove the paper and glue by soaking stand in warm water.)
Trim around circle and inside channels using a craft knife and cutting mat.

Glue lace around the outside of each circle and assemble stand.

Add ribbon and holly berries and you’re ready for a party.

Or add small ornaments and decorations for a fun Holiday Centerpiece.

Joy Shadow Box Tray

A simple Shadow Box that would be cute as Holiday Décor or used as a gift.

The “Happy Holidays” graphic would be cute replaced with a Holiday photo.

This project also uses a simple paint technique for old hardware.

Tips to make your project easier:

Add Snowy effect by flicking white acrylic paint onto the pine craft stem using an old paintbrush.

Paint the brass hardware with black spray paint. Once the paint is dry, rub Rose Gold Metallic Lustre over hardware for an aged vintage look.

For a cohesive look…rub Rose Gold Metallic Lustre onto the chipboard letters and the wood disc on the tree.
Cut the back of the bottle brush tree flat so that it fits snuggly into the tray.

Making a Winterberry Table from a $2 treasure.

Making a Winterberry Table from a $2 Garage Sale treasure.

I almost missed the small cardboard sign leaning up against the mailbox…

I wasn’t completely sure it was even a sale. So I backed the car up and parked.

You never know what you might find when your out “treasure hunting”.

While chatting with the fun older couple, I found out that they had just recently married and moved

into their new home. They were downsizing and combining both households.

The couple had a lot of good stuff, most of which I didn’t need.

It was on my second look around when I spotted the table and it’s $2 price tag. (no need to haggle)

She told me… “I always meant to refinish it. I put a doily and a basket on it instead.”

I didn’t have the heart to tell her I was planning on painting it.

I had just recently received some new paint from DecoArts and thought I’d give it a try.

I gave the table a couple coats of Americana Decor Satin Enamels Deep Ruby*.

I was seriously impressed with how smooth the paint went on and dried.

I didn’t even need to sand between coats.

I decided to stencil the top of the table using my new DecoArt Stencil 6 x 18 in. Winterberries*.

I secured the stencil in place using removable painters tape.

Using a stipple brush…

I applied DecoArt Americana Multi-Surface Satin Acrylic Paint, White Birch*

inside the open stencil areas.

The Winterberry stencil comes with two 6″ x 18″ stencils which are slightly different.

I used the second stencil to add another berry branch to my table top.

I’m in love with my “new” table.

For now, the table will be used with my holiday decorating and then after the Holidays it’ll find a

permanent home in the guest room.

Christmas Cards using Paper House’s “Home for Christmas” Collection

I thought I’d share a couple of the quick and easy layered cards that we made in my Holiday Workshop.

The Joy to the World card uses:

Festive 3-Tier Serving Stand

Create an elegant Holiday serving stand…

using random thrift store dishes and a Dollar Store candlestick.

Imagine this filled with yummy deserts and treats.

Here’s what you’ll need to get started: (*affiliate link)

Three Plates: one small, one medium, one large
Glass Candlestick Holder*
Glass Cordial
Jingle Bells*
Beacon Glass, Metal & More Premium Permanent Glue, 2-Ounce*
Rubbing Alcohol
Soft Cloth

Directions:

Clean and dry dishes. Wipe areas where adhesive will be applied with rubbing alcohol to remove any oil left on glass from handling.

Run a thin line of adhesive on the top of the glass candlestick and adhere to the bottom of the medium plate. Let dry.

Place jingle bells into glass cordial. Run thin line of adhesive on top of glass cordial. Adhere to bottom of the smallest plate. Let dry.

Adhere bottom of glass cordial to center of the medium plate.
Adhere bottom of glass candlestick to top center of largest plate.

TIP… Use as three separate pieces or adhere together to create one elegant serving stand.

Sometimes all you need to do is IMPROVISE

When the boys came over to visit the other day, Nick had it in his mind that he was going to

rake a huge pile of leaves to play in. Since the maple tree in the front yard had yet to drop it’s leaves

I suggested he rake up the Pine Needles. (I figured a win-win for both of us)

They raked, they threw, they had a really good time. They IMPROVISED!

and…there were pine needles everywhere.

I love this picture of the boys. So much fun.

Framed Magnetic Family Memo Board

A decorative alternative to the family refrigerator.

This picture of me with my grandsons is one of my favorite photos.

It’s been hanging around on the fridge for a couple of years now.

I decided to make a Framed Magnetic Memo Board that I can hang on the wall and swap out photo’s

in the magnetic frames when ever I feel like it.

I started with an old picture frame with the glass removed.
I adhered the Magnetic Craft Sheet from Deflecto using double sided adhesive on the frame backing with the black magnetic side up.
Next, I covered the black magnetic sheet with a “thin” piece of plaid scrapbook paper and inserted it back into the frame. (TIP: using thin paper is the key to the magnetic sheets sticking together)
To make the frames: Cover magnetic sheets with scrapbook paper. Cut magnetic sheet with craft knife and mat or use a wood die cut frame to cut out the frames.
You can also create small word magnets using scrapbook paper and the magnetic craft sheets.

Thin metal dies will not work to cut the magnetic sheets, but it would be a great way to store them!
