How to make a “coffee-themed” gift card holder for Mom for Mother’s Day.

A Coffee Themed Card for Mom

Directions:

  • Die-cut the pieces from the Coffee Die Set out of scrapbook paper using the Crossover II Die-Cutting Machine.
  • Assemble the die-cut pieces on a layered card front.
  • For the base of the gift card holder, I cut a piece of cardstock 5 1/4″ x 9 3/4″.  Score lengthwise every 3 1/4″.
  • Adhere a 3″ x 5″ piece of green polka dot paper onto the middle panel.
  • On the third panel, cut down the side approx. 2 1/2″.  Cutaway the remaining section of the panel on a diagonal to create a flap.
  • Adhere the bottom and the short side of the flap to the middle panel to create a pocket.
  • Decorate the pocket with a flower that was “fussy cut” from the floral paper.  Add a small strip to edge the pocket.

Directions Continued:

  • For the letters on the front of the card, I used gold foiled paper.  To make the letters stickers, I ran the gold foiled paper through the Xyron Creative Station*.  As you run the paper through the machine it adds a complete layer of adhesive to the back of the paper.
  • Die-Cut the letters to spell “MOM” using the Alphabet Die Set and the
  • Die-cut the gold foiled paper (with adhesive added to the back) using the alphabet die and the Crossover II Die-Cutting System*.
  • Remove the backing off the back of the letters and stick them onto the front of the card.
  • Tie gold thread around the front of the card and tie it with a knot.

LETTER ALIGNING TIP…If you’re a perfectionist like I am and want to align the letters as straight as possible. Use Gridded Transfer Paper* to help you line up the letters. Place the front of the foiled letters on the adhesive side of the transfer paper, remove the backing off of the foiled paper and transfer the letters onto the front of the card.

Now all you need to do is add a gift card for her favorite store or coffee place along with a sweet note.

Accordion Album made with Kaisercrafts's Flower Shopped Collection.

Directions:

  • Cut two 4″ x 6″ matboard panels.
  • Cut two 5″ x 7″ green polka dot paper pieces.  You will need to generously apply adhesive to the back of the paper.  I like to use my Xyron Creative Station to add adhesive.  Run the paper design side up through the machine to add a “complete layer” of adhesive on the paper.  (no wrinkles, no electricity)
  • Lay matboard on center back of polka dot paper.  Miter paper edges by cutting diagonal triangle off each edge of four corners, leaving 1/8″ space between cut and matboard.  (TIP…save triangles to cover edges if corners don’t meet)  Fold edges over the matboard and adhere.  Repeat with the second set of panels.
  • Decorate the front of the album using designs from the “Arrangement” paper.  I layered the “bloom where you are planted” 3″ x 4″ section onto a 3 1/4″ x 4 1/4″ piece of cardstock.  For added dimension, I adhered the layers onto a 3 1/4″ x 4 1/4″ piece of matboard.
  • Paint four metal corners with white multi-media paint.  After the paint has fully dried, lightly sand over the corners to reveal the embossed design.  Fold around edges of the matboard layer.  Adhere layered matboard to the front of the album cover.

Kaisercraft Flower Shoppe-Accordion Album

  • Cut two 5-7/8″ x 12″ strips of “sunroom” scrapbook paper.  Score lengthwise every 3-7/8″.  You will end up with 3 panels and a small narrow section at the end of each strip approximately a 1/2″ inch.  On one panel, cut the extra 1/2″ strip off.  Adhere the 1/2″ tab onto the back of the other panel to create one long 6-panel accordion strip.  Refold the panel if necessary.
  • Adhere each end of the accordion strip to the 4″ x 6″ covered chipboard panels.
  • Create pockets and flaps using extra scrapbook paper pieces.

Directions:

  • The pieces for the Graduation Cap were die-cut out of Black Glossy Cardstock* and edged in gold using a Gold Chisel Tip Calligraphy Pen*.
  • The gold layer for the card is Rinea Foiled Paper which was adhered to the card base using a Tape Runner*.  
  • The tassel and button on the cap were made using the gold foiled paper adhered to cardstock and then die-cut.

  • I used the Xyron Creative Station* to add adhesive to the back of the foiled paper.
  • This picture is when I used the Xyron Creative Station* to add adhesive to the purple foiled paper for the gift cardholder.  
  • I also added adhesive to the gold foiled paper used to create the letters on the front of the card.

  • Die-cut the gold foiled paper (with adhesive added to the back) using the alphabet die and Crossover II Die-Cutting System*.
  • The adhesive on the back of the foil makes the letters stickers and easy to adhere. 

LETTER ALIGNING TIP…If you’re a perfectionist like I am and want to align the letters as straight as possible. Use Gridded Transfer Paper* to help you line up the letters. Place the front of the foiled letters on the adhesive side of the transfer paper, remove the backing off of the foiled paper and transfer the letters onto the front of the card.

To Make the Graduation Cap Gift Card Holder:

  • To make my gift card personal, I chose to make my graduation cap purple to honor the school colors of this year’s graduate.
  • Add adhesive to the back of the foiled paper using the Xyron Creative Station*.  (see previous picture)
  • Die-cut the pieces of the graduation cap using the Crossover II Die-Cutting System*.
  • Die-cut the base of the gift card holder out of black glossy cardstock and the New Donut Box Die.
  • Fold the box on the score lines and adhere to side tabs to create the box.  
  • Adhere a small piece of paper on the inside of the box to finish creating the lid.  
  • Adhere the Graduation Cap pieces onto the top of the box.  If you would like a little dimension, add 3D Adhesive Foam Squares to the back of the cap before adding it to the box.

  • Add a little personality on the inside of the box with graduation-themed scrapbook paper.  
  • Insert candy, gift card, or cash for a graduation gift they’re sure to love.

How to create a Shabby Floral Decoupaged Heart…

As a midwestern girl, I always thought southern women to be some of the most polite

and kindest women with their sweet southern drawl. 

I mean, they go around saying “bless your heart” all the time.

It wasn’t until last year, that I learned that “bless your heart” can also be an insult by some

southern women.  Kind of like a giant “eye roll”.

Don’t get me wrong.

Bless your heart can still be an expression of sincere sympathy or genuine concern.

Call me naive, but that’s what I’m going to think.  (especially for this project)

My blessed shabby heart was made using an inexpensive wood heart from Dollar Tree*,

Directions: 

  • Remove the twine tag and sand both sides of the wood heart.
  • Paint the front and back of the heart with white paint.
  • My wood heart is a “chunky” heart and is 3/4″ thick.  I painted the sides of my heart a coordinating color of the darkest flower.
  • Cut two pieces of floral tissue paper to cover the front and back of the heart.
  • Apply Mod Podge to the front of the heart.  While wet, lay the tissue onto the front of the heart.  Gently smooth tissue paper onto the surface.
  • Allow time for the paper to dry.  Using fine-grit sandpaper, lightly sand the edges of the heart to remove the excess tissue paper.
  • Repeat on the other side of the heart.
  • Add a second coat of Mod Podge sealer over both the front, back, and sides of the wood heart.
  • The tissue paper gives the appearance of a softly painted water-colored floral background.

  • Cut a piece of Clear Transfer Tape* slightly larger than the word.
  • Using the vinyl scraper tool, gently rub over the letters to make sure they have transferred.
  • Lift the word off the white backer paper.

  • Position the words over your heart to decide where you want it to go.
  • Lay the transfer paper onto the heart and gently rub over the transfer paper with the vinyl scraper tool.
  • Gently remove transfer paper from the heart.

Add twine or ribbon and use a decorative knob hanger.  And always remember how blessed you truly are.

Welcome Spring with a Cute Bunny Inspired Wreath.

Using a few inexpensive wood cut-outs from Dollar Tree I created a fun Spring Banner to hang

Directions:

  • Put the paper design side up on the Xyron Creative Station* crank the handle to run the paper through the machine.  As it moves through the Xyron Creative Station it adds adhesive to the back side of the paper.  Easy to use and it doesn’t need any electricity.

  • Lay wood cut-outs onto the adhesive side of the paper.
  • Cut around the shape with a craft knife.
  • Sand the rough cut edges of the shape with a sanding block*.  You can use an Emory board to get into small places to sand.

  • String the finished wood pieces onto a piece of ribbon or twine.
  • I used the New Xyron Multi-Stick Glue Gun to add the flowers and leaves embellishments.
  • One of my favorite features of the New Xyron Multi-Stick Glue Gun is that you can add up to three glue sticks so that you don’t have to keep reloading while you work.
  • FYI…I also added a bit of hot glue strategically under the wood pieces to help keep them from twisting on the twine.
  • I used letters cut from StyleTechCraft adhesive vinyl to spell the word “Hello”.  You could also use chipboard letters or letter stickers.

  • Lay wood piece onto scrapbook and give a gentle rub to make sure everything is stuck down.
  • Carefully cut around the shape with a craft knife*.

To make my bunny stand, I used a small wood piece cut from an old scrabble tray* and glued it onto the back using Dap Rapid Ruse All Purpose Adhesive*.

(You can find scrabble trays on Amazon*.  Another idea would be to use a small kids block*.)

How to Create a Flower Garden Notecard Folio

To Celebrate Spring and all things Flowers, I decided to make a Notecard Folio using paper from

Carta Bella’s Flower Garden Collection and Eileen Hull’s New Folio Journal Die from Sizzix*.

Album Details:

  • The album pieces are die-cut using Sizzix White Matboard Sheets*, which is the perfect size for cutting long pieces.  (You will need to cut the album pieces twice.)
  • There is a smaller rectangle die-cut piece that comes with the die. (cut two)  You will use the piece to create a pocket with the outer flap.  
  • Align and adhere both ends of the spine together using Tear It! Double-Sided Crafter’s Tape*.
  • Cover the front and inside of the album with decorative scrapbook paper.  (see album making tip below)
  • Album Making Tip:  I use my Xyron Creative Station* to add adhesive to my paper before sticking it onto the matboard.  It adds a complete adhesive layer without puckering or wrinkles.
  • Using a craft knife and cutting mat, I cut both ends of the flaps down to create 2 1/2″ pockets.  Adhere the “pocket pieces” (the small scored pieces that come with the die) to finish the bottom of the pockets.
  • I used Carta Bella Farmhouse Market Collections Stickers* to embellish the pocket fronts.

  • Create simple 3 1/2″ x 4 1/2″  layered cards using the Carta Bella Flower Garden:  3″ x 4″ Journaling Cards*.
  • After using one of the Journaling Cards for my front and back cover and another section for my green spine, I was able to create 8 small notecards to fill my notecard folio.

  • The ribbon was added around the album before adding the front and back cover.
  • I created a small chipboard tag for the spine and punched the holes using a Crop-A-Dile Power Punch*.  
  • On the inside center binding, I hung a pen on the loop of ribbon that was added for the tag.

Doing A little Pinch Proof Preparedness for St. Patrick’s Day.

GREEN is the color of the day on St. Patrick’s Day…

and, I’ll be the first to admit that I look horrible in green. (It’s just not my color.)

So what do you do when green is not your color and you still want to celebrate?

You get creative and make a simple “Pinch Proof” button so you can wear a little green

and keep those pinches at bay. (It’s kind of like cootie protection when you were a kid.)

  • Gently rub over the vinyl transfer tape using the squeegee tool to make sure all the image has transferred.   Remove the transfer tape.

How to make a Tussy Mussy Gift Topper.

What’s a tussy mussy you ask?

A tussy mussy is a Victorian-style bouquet of a small group of flowers.

And flowers always make for a great gift topper.

A little back story…Way back in the day tussy mussy’s were a thing.  Ladies would carry tussy mussy’s or stick them onto their lapel to mask body odor.  (I’m sure glad we don’t have to do that anymore.)

Creating Cute Valentine/Spring Décor with StyleTechCraft Vinyl.

Did you ever get a song stuck in your head while working on a project?

I’m showing my age here, but this Karen Carpenter song kept going through my mind while

I was putting together the Bird on the Branch and, I just had to create the words to go with it.

I love creating projects for my home using vinyl. 

My favorite vinyl is the Glossy Craft Vinyl from StyleTechCraft.

There are so many great color choices to choose from.

Project Details:

  • I used a 5″ x 7″ decorative piece of chipboard that I’d had around for a while.
  • I cut a piece of woodgrain paper a little larger than the chipboard.  
  • Place the paper in the Xyron Creative Station* design side up through. As you turn the handle, it runs through the machine and adds a complete layer of adhesive onto the back of the paper.

  • Adhere the paper to the chipboard and cut away the excess using a craft knife and cutting mat.
  • Use a fine Sanding Block* to smooth out the edges of the chipboard.

  • I used my Silhouette Cameo Electronic Die Cutting Machine* and the “Bird on the Branch” SVG file to create my design.
  • I sized the image to fit onto my chipboard and cut the various layers of the red in three shades to make a cardinal.  
  • After weeding the excess vinyl from around my images, I transferred them onto the chipboard using the Clear Transfer Tape*.
  • After having the song stuck in my head, I decided to create a few words for my sign.
  • For added detail, I went around the edge of my sign with a Silver Leafing Pen*.

  • I cut an extra little cardinal to fit inside a small circle frame and added small red hearts on the top and bottom.
  • To complete my decorations, I added my small faux heart topiary to a reddish metal and added the words “choose happy” in Olive vinyl.

I have Cute Valentines Decorations that will take me into Spring.  (and maybe longer)
