To Create a Soft Realistic Looking Tea Rose…

  • Place the flower cut out on the craft molding mat*.  (approximately the thickness of a computer mouse pad)
  • Using a large ball stylus tool*, press down on the center of the shape until the paper starts to bow.  This helps the paper when you start to manipulate the shape.

  • Start at the outside end of the flower and use the reverse grip tweezers* to start slowly rolling the spiral.

  • When your finished rolling, glue the bottom tab to the rose shape to hold the flower in place.

  • Use the reverse grip tweezers* to grasp the side of the flower and roll it back to form the natural curve of a petal.

It’s really quick and easy to make these delicate looking roses.

To finish the card…

  • Die-cut a  vase using the Spring Farmhouse scrapbook paper.
  • Assemble a card base using  coordinating decorative scrapbook paper.
  • Glue the small roses over the top of the vase.
  • Add stamped leaves and the die-cut words “bloom” .
  • Finish with a small cream tag with the words “with grace” stamped in green.

Creating a Mini Thanksgiving Room

Creating a Mini Thanksgiving Room…

Time to get your rooms ready for the Thanksgiving holiday.

I love making miniature rooms, especially for the Holidays.

I created this special little room for Xyron using the Xyron Creative Station*.

The Xyron Creative Station* is perfect for projects like this.  I wanted complete adhesive coverage on every corner and edge of the paper.  (No wrinkles, no bubbles, easy to use.)

Products Used:                                      ( *affiliate links)

*Disclosure:  This blog uses affiliate links.  If you choose to make a purchase using one of the links, I receive a small commission (at no additional cost to you) that helps offset the costs of maintaining this blog.  Thanks for your support!

To make the Mini Thanksgiving Room…

  • Cut chipboard into 4 pieces:  9″x7 1/2″, 5 3/4″ x 9″ and two 5 3/4″ x 7 1/2″
  • Cut woodgrain paper just 6″ x 9 1/4″ and run it through the Xyron Creative station design side up.   As the paper runs through the machine it adds adhesive under the paper.
  • Adhere the paper to the chipboard.  I like to cut my paper slightly wider than I need so I can trim the edges with a craft knife.
  • Gently sand edges with a extra fine sanding block for the perfect edge.

  • I cut the patterned paper half the size of the other three chipboard pieces and added a 1/2″ strip of  woodgrain paper to cover the seam.  (it looks like chair rail)
  • Using the Creative Station makes quick work of covering the walls.

  • I covered the back of my room with coordinating paper and added small strips of paper on the inside and back corners for added support.  Run those strips through the Xyron Creative Station* as well.

  • I picked up some inexpensive Doll furniture* at Dollar Tree* and painted them with black spraypaint.
  • I gave them a light sanding after they were dry with a sanding block to smooth.

  • I created additional furniture by cutting small pieces of chipboard and adhering them together.  (simple building construction)
  • A couple coats of black paint to finish the job.

  • To Make the tablecloth…Run a piece of lace through the Xyron Creative Station* and adhere the lace to the top of the table.  Trim around the edges of the lace with scissors.
  • I created a small vase with playdoh and painted it with acrylic paint after it was completely dried.  I added craft glue inside my vase and inserted snippets of artificial flowers.
  • I added a platter of turkey on the table. (don’t tell anyone but mine’s really a chicken)

A small little handmade bench for extra seating.

A shelf on the wall with special pewter pieces.

And a cute Turkey Decoration on top the sideboard to make the room more festive.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Annie’s Sweet Dreams Bedroom

Annie’s Sweet Dream Bedroom

I love working with miniatures and creating little rooms.

I guess…I’m creating the doll house I always imagined as a kid.

For this room, I wanted to create a “mini makeover” for Annie’s Bedroom.

This little room won me third place in the 2019 Fave Crafts Best Blogger Contest.

And now, I can finally share it all with you.

How to make Annie’s Sweet Dreams Bedroom…

The Bedroom measures 7 1/2″ wide, 7 1/2″ tall and 5 1/2″ deep.

  • Cut 3 pieces of chipboard 5 3/4″ x 7 1/2″.
  • Cut 1 piece of chipboard 7 1/2″ x 7 1/2″ to use as the back wall.

  • Cut decorative scrapbook paper from the Graphic 45 Garden Goddess 8×8 Paper Pad* to use on the floor, walls and outside walls of the room.  I like to cut my paper slightly wider than I need so I can trim the edges with a craft knife.
  • I used both cardstock and scrapbook paper to cover my walls.  For my walls…cut both papers into 3 3/4″ strips.
  • I cut a small strip of paper from the paper pad for a decorative border.
  • I ran each of my strips through the Xyron Creative Station*.
  • Adhere paper to the chipboard.
  • Cover back of the chipboard with coordinating scrapbook paper.

The Xyron Creative Station* is perfect for projects like this.  I wanted complete adhesive coverage on every corner and edge of the paper.  (No wrinkles, no bubbles, easy to use.)

Finished Inside Walls

For the Mural on the Wall…

  • I used an SVG file and my Silhouette Cameo Wireless Cutting Machine* to cut and create the words “follow your dreams” using StyleTechCraft Dark Red Ultra Metallic Glitter Vinyl.
  • Using the weeding tool, I carefully removed the negative spaces in and around the letters.
  • Place a piece of Vinyl Transfer Tape* over the letters.
  • Apply words onto the back wall.
  • Remove transfer tape.

  • Glue the walls together using a good craft glue. I like to use Beacon 3 in 1 Glue*.  I used wood boxes to hold my wall up while the glue dried.

  •  I added small strips of paper on the back corners for added support.

  • To make a mini lamp shade…punch a 3″ scallop circle.
  • Trace around a button in the center of the circle.
  • Cut out the small circle as shown in the above picture.
  • Glue ends of the circle together to form shade.
  • Glue shade onto a small painted wood spool.

  • Cut small pieces of ribbon and glue them onto a piece of twine to create a small ribbon banner to hang onto the wall.
  • Glue Banner onto back wall.
  • The Deflecto Ribbon Dispenser* is great for organizing my ribbon spools.

  • The mirror was made using a small piece of StyleTechCraft Chrome Metallic Vinyl* I placed onto a small piece of chipboard.
  • Cut 1/4″ strips of chipboard and paint brown.
  • To create a wood look, ink to the edges of the chipboard with vintage photo distress ink.
  • Glue strip onto the front of the Chrome Metallic Vinyl* to create the frame.
  • I used small Christmas ornaments for the toys.

Creating Annie’s Sweet Dreams Bedroom was a labor of love.

With a little imagination and some basic construction, it’s really not hard to do.

“Dyeing” for Spring

Welcome Spring with all your beautiful flowers, warmer days and everything renewed.

My Welcome Spring Banner turned into a real labor of love.

I began this project with the idea of using fun pink and purple hand cut felt flowers.

After I cut all the flowers and leaves, I decided to dye the embroidered letters.

The letters turned out so soft and delicate, I needed something softer for the flowers.

So…more flowers and more dyeing!  (make sure to read all the instructions below.)

I could of kept things simple and glued all the flowers in place, but noooo…

instead at the last minute I committed myself to stitching the entire thing.

Let me tell you…I’m not a stitcher!    (But, I am pretty satisfied by the way they turned out.)

To make the Welcome Spring Banner you’ll need:

  1. Add several drops of dye ink to each misting bottle.
  2. Remove letters from backing sheet and place on a Non Stick Craft Mat* or (wax paper).
  3. Spritz the letters with both blue and green ink for a variegated look.  Allow the ink to soak into the letters then dab away excess ink and water with a paper towel.  Let dry.

Look at how beautiful the letters dried.  ↓

4.  Create simple, hand drawn flowers (small, medium and large), circle and leaf patterns onto plain white paper.  Cut then trace around the patterns onto white felt.  Cut out.

5.  Spray the leaves green, set aside then spray the flowers and circles one color at a time.  Allow them to dry overnight.

6.  Layer the circle, small flower and large flower on top of each other then stitch in place.  Use a small amount of glue to hold the pieces in place while you stitch.

I love how the ink pooled at the edges of the pink flowers!

7.  To create the banner shape, fold a 10″ x 14″ piece of white felt in half lengthways.  Cut diagonally across the bottom from the center fold to a point about 3″ up from the bottom corner on the outer edges.  Stitch the flowers to the banner using a button at the center of each one.  Tuck leaves underneath the outer edges of the flowers then stitch in place.

8.  Set iron to cotton setting, approx. 350°, or follow garment care label.  Position letters with shiny side down on felt, then iron the letters in place as shown.  Cover letters with a fine cloth.  With firm pressure, iron cloth over the letters for 30 seconds.  Turn banner over and iron the back of the letters for 30 seconds.

9.  Use a sewing machine to stitch the banner to backing material, then stitch trim in place across the top and around the bottom edge if desired.

If you need to finish your banner in less time, glue the flowers, leaves and trim in place, then use a fusible interfacing to adhere the felt banner to a backing.

Look for Joy® iron-on embroidered alphabet letter sheets at your local craft store.

My “Welcome Spring” banner was created for and sponsored by Joy SA.

Snowman Banner with Kunin Felt

Is it too early for a Snowman Banner?

I admit it’s a little early, but when I found this adorable Sizzix Snowman Die by Tim Holtz*

I really wanted to use it in this month’s Designer Craft Connection Blog Hop with Kunin Felt.

Seriously though…Who doesn’t love a snowman?

To see what the other designers made using their Kunin Felt make sure to click on the

Blog Hop link at the bottom of this post.

Here’s what I used to make my Snowman Banner.                           (*affiliate link)

      • I made a simple banner pattern out of white cardstock.
      • I traced 2 banners onto the felt.

I die-cut the felt into snowman pieces using the Sizzix Snowman Die* and my Sizzix Big Shot Machine*.

      • Glue or Sew the felt shapes onto the banner.
      • Sew both pieces of the banner together leaving a small pocket on the top to insert a bamboo skewer or small wood rod for hanging.
      • Add pom pom trim to the top of the banner.
      • Iron on embroidered letters to spell “let it snow”

Did you know???

Kunin Felt recycles billions of water bottles every year that would otherwise be in the landfills and makes them into a product which becomes felt. 12 bottles equals 1 lb. of fabric.

How to make a Springtime Delights Resin Magnet

I have to admit, working with Resin intimidated me at first.

With a little practice, I found that it’s really not hard and you can get some amazing results.

Especially when you start small.    (Just make sure to read the package instructions)

My Springtime Delights magnet measures only 2″ x 2.

Materials:            (*affiliate link)

Directions:

Cut and glue a small piece of scrapbook paper to fit inside of tin.

Arrange 3D stickers inside of tin.  You may need to add extra glue under each sticker to make sure they stay in place.

Measure, Mix and pour the resin as directed in the product packaging.

Blow air onto the resin using a thin straw to help remove bubbles.

Allow plenty of drying time for the resin to cure before gluing magnet onto the back of the tin.
