  • Adhere the sides to the card caddy base using Rapid Fuse Adhesive*.  The Die comes with scored side pieces that are perfect for putting the box together.  I wasn’t thinking and cut two pieces of matboard for my sides.  Both will work.  (the one that comes with the die would have been a lot easier)

  • Create a handle for the pumpkin treat box using wire and small wood beads.
  • Punch a hole on both sides of the box and attach the handle.

A Tip for Easy Assembly…

  •  Place the striped paper, used for the top of the mason jar shaker tag, into the Xyron Create a Sticker Mini*. Crank the handle to run the paper through the machine. As it goes through the Xyron Create a Sticker Mini* it adds a layer of adhesive onto the back of the paper. Die-cut the paper using the Mason Jar Frame Die. Now the die-cut frame is a sticker, which makes placing it onto the acetate easy.

  • Remove the blue protective liner from the acetate.  Place the mason jar frame onto the acetate.
  • Remove one side of the protective liner from the craft foam frame.  Place the foam frame onto the mason jar silhouette.
  • Add Halloween Shaker Sprinkles in the center of the foam.  Don’t overfill.  You want to make sure to leave for shaking.
  • Remove the liner from the craft foam and line up the mason jar frame (with acetate) over the
  • Die Cut two jar tops and adhere them to the top of the shaker jar.
  • Wrap with twine.  Glue the Halloween ribbon around the base of the shaker jar.

Trick or Treat Halloween Shaker Card

Directions:

  • I used the Halloween Scene from the Tricks and Treats paper pad for the base of my card. I cut off a 1/2″ off both sides of the paper, making it 5″ x 6″. (The finished card measures 5 1/4″ x 6 1/4″.)
  • Die-cut a large scalloped square frame out of the purple plaid paper from the paper pad.
  • Die-cut a large foam square using the foam cutter die. The foam square will fit under the scalloped square frame.
  • Because I didn’t want the white sides of the foam showing in my shaker element, I used black calligraphy (chisel point) paint marker to color the outside and inside of the foam square. Place the foam square onto the card base. (as shown above)
  • Add “Tricks and Treats” shaker sprinkles into the center of the foam square.
  • Cut a 3 1/4″ x 3 1/4″ piece of clear acetate. Remove the blue protective covering from both sides of the acetate.
  • Remove the top protective coating from the foam square and place the acetate onto the foam.
  • Add adhesive under the purple plaid scalloped square and place it over the acetate lined up with the foam square.

Die-Cutting Tip…

  • When cutting small die-cut pieces, I like to run the paper through the Xyron Create a Sticker Mini*.  After die-cutting, they become little stickers. That makes applying the die-cuts a whole lot easier.

  • Apply the Spider Web die-cut onto the inside corner of the shaker element.
  • Add the words “Happy Halloween” onto the front of the card.

  • Insert the paper design side up into the Xyron Creative Station*.   Crank the handle to run the paper through the machine.  The Xyron Creative Station* adds complete adhesive covering to the back of the paper.  (You could also use a glue stick or liquid glue adhesive.)

DIY Dollar Store Plaid Pumpkin

  • Adhere the black and orange buffalo plaid paper* onto the front of the pumpkin.
  • Cut the excess paper from the inside and outside of the pumpkin using a craft knife and cutting mat.
  • Use a sanding block or extra-fine sandpaper to smooth the edges of the cut paper.
  • Use a black or dark gray marker to add color to the edges of the paper to cover the white core.

My process for making cards sometimes changes as I sit down to create.  I was getting into this

one and decided to forgo all the step-by-step pictures.  Instead, I will give you lots of details.

Here’s one tip I highly suggest.  (Especially with the skeleton die.)

Run the white cardstock through the Xyron Create-A-Sticker Machine* before cutting out the

skeleton die.  The Xyron Create-A-Sticker Machine* puts adhesive on the back of the

cardstock, making the skeleton pieces stickers.  By making stickers, adhering the skeleton

to the coffin was so much easier than using liquid glue.

  • I cut a piece of double-sided adhesive foam large enough to cut the casket shape.  I adhered a piece of gray cardstock to one side of the foam before die-cutting.
  • To cut the casket shape.  Place the casket die on the foam and run it through the Crossover II Die-Cutting Machine.  Because the foam is so thick, you may want to run it back and forth a couple of times to make sure the die cuts entirely through the foam.
  • Another good tip…Use a black chisel tip paint marker* to color the sides of the craft foam.

  • The lid of the casket was made by sticking two pieces of black patterned scrapbook paper together and die-cutting the scrapbook paper with the casket die. (I used the Xyron Sticker Maker)
  • Adhere a piece of scrapbook paper onto a piece of adhesive foam.
  • Using the casket outline die, cut a casket outline from the foam. Stick the casket outline on the inside of the lid.
  • Fold two small pieces of paper to use as the hinges. Glue only the top and bottom of the hinges. Not on the side of the casket.

  • Before sticking the casket onto the layered card base, attach a thin black string onto the back of the casket.
  • If you don’t have black string, put a little black paint between your thumb and index finger and run the string through the paint.  Voila, black string.
  • Tie string around the casket to keep the lid closed.

How to Make a Toil and Trouble Halloween Shaker Card….

There are several different ways to make a shaker card.  (This is how I decided to make this one.)

Directions:

  • Cut a piece of double-sided adhesive craft foam approx. 3-1/4″ x 4-3/4″.
  • Using the caldron outline die, die-cut the caldron shape into the craft foam.
  • Cut a piece of scrapbook paper approx. 4″ x 5-1/2″.  Die-cut the cauldron shape into the scrapbook paper.
  • Cut a small piece of acetate to cover the opening of the caldron.
  • Remove protective coating off the acetate.
  • Remove the protective liner off the double-sided adhesive craft foam.
  • Stick the acetate over the opening.

  • Line up and stick the cauldron opening of the scrapbook paper over the cauldron opening of the craft foam and acetate.
  • Trim the excess paper using a cutting mat and craft knife.

  • Turn the craft foam over and fill the cauldron with Spooky Shaker Sprinkles.  Make sure not to overfill, you want to leave enough room for the sprinkles to shake.
  • Cut a second piece of acetate to cover the cauldron opening.
  • Pull back the protective liner on the craft foam and place the acetate over the opening.

  • This is a little pro tip…I used a black calligraphy paint pen marker to color the sides of my craft foam.  The white core would have just made the foam stand out and not in a good way.  I like to use a black marker to cover the edges of my darker colored paper that would have a white or light core.

  • When using small or thin die-cut shapes, I like to run the paper through the Xyron Create-A-Sticker Maker* before cutting out the shapes.  (It makes it so much easier to apply.)
  • Cut a cauldron outline from glossy copper cardstock and stick onto the acetate.
  • Cut the boiling pot shapes out of light green cardstock and stick on the top of the cauldron.

  • Die-cut small bubbles from the die set and mount using thin black adhesive 3D foam squares* over the various circles of the scrapbook paper.
  • Stamp words in black ink onto a small piece of aged parchment card-stock.  Mount onto the front of the card using thin black foam squares.
  • Remove the protective liner from the back of the craft foam and stick onto a glossy card-stock layer.
  • Add the additional layers onto a black card.

How to make a Happy Haunts Pop Up Card:

  • First, pick out some fun patterned paper.  There are so many cute patterns available to choose from it really doesn’t matter if it’s the same as mine.
  • Stamp your pumpkins on orange patterned paper.  If your paper is thin, run the strip of orange paper through the Xyron Create a Sticker Mini* and place it onto black cardstock.

  • One pumpkin stamp has a hole in the center with space to add a face.  Perfect for stamping multiples.
  • You’ll need to stamp 7 pumpkins.

  • Cut two 2 1/2″ x 6 strips of black patterned paper.
  • Tip:  Run both pieces of paper, pattern side up, through the Xyron Create a Sticker Mini*  to add adhesive to the back of the paper.  This is really helpful when die-cutting intricate shapes.
  • Adhere one strip onto a piece of black cardstock before die-cutting.  (this will be used for the inside of card.)
  • Die-cut both strips of paper using the house die.  (one is a sticker for the front of the card.)
  • Add thin foam mounting squares* to the back of the die-cut houses with the black cardstock.  (Tip:  cut a few foam mounting squares in half before applying.)

I couldn’t find the perfect night sky background for my card so I created my own.  

  • Cut a 3 3/4″ x 5 3/4″ piece of watercolor paper.
  • Using an ink applicator, rub blue dye ink onto the surface of the paper.
  • Add a few swirls of white ink onto the paper.
  • Using a mini spray bottle, lightly mist the paper with water.  The water will allow the inks to blend leaving a soft speckled appearance on the paper.
  • Dry with hair dryer.

If you have the perfect background paper, you can eliminate these steps.↑

  • Cut a piece of green patterned paper 5 3/4″ x 7 1/2″ and fold in half lengthwise.
  • Cut a piece of patterned paper (mine was woodgrain) 3 3/4″ x 5 3/4″.  Adhere this paper onto one half of the green patterned paper.
  • On the outside folded edge, make a pencil mark at 1 1/4″ and 4 1/2″.  (see diagram)
  • Cut a 3/4″ line up on each measurement.
  • Score and fold paper between cuts.  (Use a bone folder for crisper folds.)

  • Open card and push folded and scored section into middle of the card.

  • Lay the neighborhood die-cut onto your blue background.  Use a pencil to trace the bottom swirl of the die-cut.
  • Cut paper along pencil line.
  • Adhere the cut top of the blue background paper onto the top of the brown woodgrain paper on the inside of your card.
  • Using the house die-cut with the black cardstock and foam mounting squares, adhere the neighborhood over the edge of the blue background paper.

  • Add three pumpkins to the front of the center pop-up.  On the middle pumpkin add a foam mounting square for extra dimension.
  • Adhere a couple pumpkins to the background.

  • Add black die-cut bat with a foam mounting square to the sky background.
  • Add an extra pumpkin or two and stamp the words “Trick or Treat” to finish off the inside.
  • Cut a piece of black cardstock 6″ x 7 3/4″.  Fold in half to create outside card.
  • Center and adhere the pop-up section into the center of the black card.  Adhere one half section at a time.)

  • Decorate front of the card similar to the inside of the card.

For a completely different look, a simple water colored card made with the same pumpkins.

Dollar Store Pumpkin Makeover

I love the look of heirloom pumpkins and those cute little white pumpkins called “baby boo”.

But…I always have a hard time finding them.

This year, I decided to make my own.

I found these cute little 4″ metallic pumpkins* at my local Dollar Tree*.

At $1.00 each, I couldn’t pass them up.

I painted the pumpkins with Americana Multi-Surface Satin Acrylic Paint in White Birch*.

It took 4-5 coats.  In hindsight, I wish I would have left a little green showing through.

I used Americana Multi-Surface Satin Acrylics Paint in Coffee Bean* to paint the stem and

accent the grooves of the pumpkin.  To make it look more realistic, I used a baby wipe to

strategically wipe off some of the extra brown paint.

I really please with the way they turned out.

Best part is… they won’t spoil and I can reuse them year after year.
