Be Merry Poinsettia Card

How to Create a Beautiful Poinsettia Christmas Card using Distress Ink.

I like making clean and simple cards.

But everyone once in a while, a card just calls out to be inked.

This card was one of those projects. (It’s still kind of clean and simple.)

MOD301 Winter Foliage Die Set
MOD300 Be Merry Die Set
Crossover II Fabric & Paper Cutting System*
Ranger Tim Holtz Distress Ink Pad, Peeled Paint*
Ranger Tim Holtz Distress Ink Pads, Mini, Barn Door*
Ranger Tim Holtz Distress Ink Pad, Gathered Twigs*
Ink Blending Tool*
Cream Card Stock
Woodgrain Scrapbook Paper
Xyron 3″ Disposable Sticker Maker*

Directions:

Run several strips of 3″ cream cardstock through the Xyron Sticker Maker*. The sticker maker adds an even layer of adhesive to the back of the cardstock. Do this before die-cutting to make each small piece a sticker. (it makes assembly so much easier)
Using the Winter Foliage Die Set and the Crossover II Die-Cut Machine*, die-cut the pieces out of cream cardstock. You will need 8-smooth leaves for the flower, 4-pointed leaves for the foliage, 4-pine branches, and 2-small leaf die-cuts.

Ink the edges of the leaves using an Ink Blending Tool* and the Distress Inks.
For the base of the card, cut 4 3/4″ x 6 3/4″ piece of woodgrain scrapbook paper. Adhere the woodgrain paper onto a 5″ x 7″ gold cardstock layer. Adhere both layers onto a 5 1/4″ x 7 1/4″ cream card base.
Start with 4 of the smooth leaves inked with the Barn Door Red Ink and place onto the front of the top of the card. Place them so that they line up opposite of each other.
Place and stager the four additional red leaves on top of the first layer of leaves.
Adhere the leaves, foliage and, pine stem under the poinsettia flower.

Die-cut three small circles (from the Winter Foliage Die Set) out of gold cardstock and adhere to the center of the flower.
Die-cut the words “Be Merry” out of cream cardstock ran through the Xyron Sticker Maker* and place the stickered “Be Merry” onto the front of the card.

Gnome for the Holidays

The Holiday Season isn’t even here yet, and Gnomes are popping up in stores everywhere.

That’s a good thing for me because I think they’re adorable.

I especially love the Holiday Gnomes.

Did you know that Gnomes are considered good luck?

The way things have been going this year, I’m going to need a lot more gnomes.

Have you tried making Gnomes yet?

I haven’t made any Gnomes yet myself, but it’s on my Holiday to-do list this year.

I thought this “Gnome for the Holidays” sign would look perfect with the two I already have.

I used StyleTechCraft metallic luster vinyl for a fun shimmery, metallic Holiday Decoration.

Silhouette Came o Electronic Die Cutting Machine*

Directions:

Cut a piece of coordinating holiday scrapbook paper to fit inside of the frame.
Use the “Gnome for the Holidays” SVG cut file and the Silhouette Came o Electronic Die Cutting Machine* to cut the pieces out of vinyl.
Use the vinyl pick tool to remove the excess vinyl from inside and around the letters and shapes.
Cut a piece of Vinyl Transfer Tape* to fit over the vinyl words. Gently rub over the transfer paper using the squeegee tool. Remove the vinyl from the white liner.
Using the transfer tape, line up the vinyl words onto the scrapbook paper.

Gently rub over the Vinyl Transfer Tape* to make sure all the image has transferred. Remove the transfer tape.
Continue adding the vinyl layers that make up the Gnome.
Add into a fun red metallic frame and enjoy it.

Card Details….

To make my snowflake stand out more. I took a small piece of white ultra metallic glitter vinyl and adhered it to a piece of cream cardstock before die-cutting the snowflake. You can’t tell by the picture, but the snowflake has a glittery shimmer.
I like to use the Xyron Create-A-Sticker*to add adhesive on the back of the gold cardstock before die-cutting the letters. It makes assembling the card a breeze.
The finished card size is 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″.

Fairfield World’s 80th Birthday Celebration

If you are a crafter, chances are you’ve used Poly-fil a time or two. (or much, much more)

Would you believe they’ve been around for 80 years?

My grandma used poly-fil for years, and so have I.

So when given the opportunity, I jumped at the chance to help them celebrate.

And talk about celebrating, they even sent us a box of goodies to inspire us.

How cool is that? (my favorite was the cheese popcorn)

With Christmas coming soon, I decided to make a couple of Red Posies Felt Ornaments.

I enjoy stitching from time to time, but because I’m not an expert by any means,

I’m going to call them “Simple Homespun Charm”.

Beacon Fabri-Tac Permanent Adhesive*

Optional: Joy Iron-on Embroidered Letters

Directions:

Die-cut the flowers, leaves, and circles out of felt.
Arrange the die-cut pieces on the felt.

Add a small dab of fabri-tac adhesive* under the top felt piece to hold it in place while you do your stitching.
I like to start with the top layer first and work my way down so that I’m not going through as many layers of felt at one time.

Hand sew simple stitches in white and red thread around the pieces.

Use small, close stitches to close the ornament 3/4 of the way closed.
Add a small amount of poly-fil into the center of the ornament and finish sewing it closed.

Use a large hole needle to add twine to the top of the ornament for hanging.
Adhere a small bow onto the top of the ornament with fabri-tac adhesive*.
To add a small word, like the word joy, iron the letters onto the felt circle before stitching.

Holiday Snow Globe Cards

Whether you like a classic style or cute, holiday snow globes are just fun.

Especially when they are made into cards that you can send.

For my cards, I used the Snow Globe stamp and die set from The Maker’s Movement

to make two snow globe cards with two different styles.

Both of these cards could also be made into a cute little shaker cards.

Penguin Snow Globe Card

Stamp the penguin on watercolor paper with a black permanent ink pad.
Use markers, colored pencils, or watercolor to color in the image.
Use the coordinating die to cut out the penguin.
I like to use the Xyron Creative Station* to add adhesive onto my decorative scrapbook paper before die-cutting fine detailed pieces. It makes adhering to detailed pieces like the snow globe outline so much easier to adhere to.
For the base of the snow globe. I adhered a small piece of woodgrain scrapbook paper onto a small piece of double-sided adhesive craft foam.
Run the woodgrain/foam piece through the Crossover II die-cutting machine* to create a think foam base.
Add a couple of thin foam mounting squares* to the back of the penguin before adding him to the card.
Adhere all your pieces together and stamp a little greeting on the top of the card.

Winter Wonderland Snow Globe Card

Create the soft look of freshly fallen snow with this Winter Wonderland Snow Globe.

I love how different this card is. (can you tell it’s my favorite)

It’s made similar to the Penguin Snow Globe. The two trees in the middle are popped up using

thin foam mounting squares* to give the forest dimension.

DIY Dollar Store Plaid Pumpkins

DIY Dollar Store Plaid Pumpkin

A Quick and Easy way to turn a Dollar Store wood cut out into a Plaid Pumpkin.

I found this cute inexpensive wood pumpkin* at Dollar Tree* and thought it would

make a cute little plaid pumpkin to add to my Fall decorations.

It was super simple to make.

Directions:

Paint the base of the pumpkin* with black acrylic paint.
Cut a piece of orange and black plaid paper* slightly larger than the pumpkin shape.

Insert the paper design side up into the Xyron Creative Station*. Crank the handle to run the paper through the machine. The Xyron Creative Station* adds complete adhesive covering to the back of the paper. (You could also use a glue stick or liquid glue adhesive.)

DIY Dollar Store Plaid Pumpkin

Adhere the black and orange buffalo plaid paper* onto the front of the pumpkin.
Cut the excess paper from the inside and outside of the pumpkin using a craft knife and cutting mat.
Use a sanding block or extra-fine sandpaper to smooth the edges of the cut paper.
Use a black or dark gray marker to add color to the edges of the paper to cover the white core.

Organizing Your Holiday Craft Supplies

Creative Christmas Crafting Organization Tips…

It’s that time of year when thoughts are leaning towards the Holidays.

As a crafter, it’s my favorite time of year to do craft projects.

But, as a blogger, there’s a lot of crafting, creating, and sharing to do.

For fun, I thought I’d show how I organize my Craft Supplies for the

Ultimate Holiday Crafting Season.

Of course, my go-to storage comes from Deflecto.

To prepare for the busy season ahead, I like to transition my space with

all my Christmas Crafting Supplies conveniently close.

I like to mix a little old with the new to make it interesting.

I never know what will inspire the next project.

Here a few of the products I used for my Holiday Crafting Organization.

I use the Deflecto Interlocking Tilt Bins* to keep my jingle bells, small

wood embellishments, paints, bottle brush trees, all neatly organized and

easily accessible.

I use a lot of ribbon during the Holidays.

I use the Deflecto Ribbon Dispenser* that fits into the large section of the

Deflecto Stackable Caddy Organizer* and add all my favorite holiday

ribbon rolls. As you can see, it holds several.

The small and medium containers hold my glue guns and adhesives.

The Stackable Caddy* is great for grab and go crafting.

Not only is it efficient, but it’s really pretty to look at.

Stamp Sets that I will be working on soon. It’s also a great place to stash

cut cardstock ready to be folded into cards.

tidy. (and…it fits nicely into the stackable caddy)

When working on cards it’s great to have my markers organized and close

into several different configurations.

It’s a perfect companion to have on my desk.

Christmas Letter Box and Cup of Christmas Tea

I really love these New Winter Release Dies from Eileen Hull and Sizzix.

The new dies cut the cute little Post Box*, which is perfect for letters to Santa or even a gift card

and the Teacup Box* that you can fill with teabags and other holiday goodies.

You will have fun embellishing and creating holiday treats for everyone on your list!

Letters for Santa…

I created the Christmas Teacup first and thought that it would be my favorite project.

Then I created the Christmas Letter Box*, and IT IS MY FAVORITE.

I think it would make a cute ornament to hang on the tree.

Little kids can write a note and stick it inside for Santa to read.

The Post Box Die* cuts the box in one piece. Just fold on the score lines and glue.

I like to use Rapid Fuse Adhesive* to hold my sides together. (Thirty seconds and it’s ready.)

A Cup of Christmas Tea.

This project was inspired by the book A Cup of Christmas Tea*.

A Cup of Christmas Tea*

Many, many years ago, I owned a Gift Store. One of the many items we sold was Teapots and Teacups. One Christmas, I happened across the story of A Cup of Christmas Tea*. It’s the story of a young man’s reluctant visit to an elderly aunt at Christmastime, and the unexpected joy it brings. I loved the story so much I decided to sell it in the store. Many times, customers would stop and read the book while browsing. I had more than one customer with tears in their eyes purchase the book. It’s a sweet book, and it reminds me now more than ever the importance of taking the time with those we love.

A few details on the Christmas Teacup.

Before cutting out the die, I used my Xyron Creative Station*to put adhesive on the back of the Snowflake scrapbook paper. Just place the paper on the Creative Station design side up and crank the handle to run it through the machine. It adds an even layer of adhesive on the entire piece of paper.
I adhered the paper to a piece of white mat board*and ran the covered mat board and die through the Big Shot Die-Cut Machine* to cut.
I edged the teacup with a DecoColor Premium Silver Calligraphy Pen*. I used the pen to paint the mat board spoon also.
