On my Birthday, a couple of years ago, my husband wanted to make my day special and

shower me with lots of little gifts.  Of all the places to shop, he choose to shop at a outlet

store in Southern Missouri that was filled with things that I wouldn’t have sold even when

I had my gift store in the 90’s.  (he’s no longer allowed to shop there)

This Christmas watering can was one of those gifts.

I honestly thought it was a gag gift.  (I may or may not have laughed)

I ran across it again when putting away my Christmas Decorations this past year.

Instead of throwing it out or giving it to Goodwill I thought I’d re-purpose it into

something I would use.

Supplies:

 Directions:
  1. Re-purpose a old decorative watering can by taking off the paper covering. Soak in water if necessary.
  2. Sand to remove any additional paper and to make smooth for painting.
  3. Spray-paint watering can and keys with cream paint.
  4. Puddle silver ink onto a piece of scratch paper by pumping the nib. Use the tip of your finger to rub ink directly onto watering can around edges to highlight and distress.
  5. Mask off the center of decorative stencil with blue painter’s tape, lay onto watering can.
  6. Rub silver paint onto stencil as in step #4.
  7. Wind thin wire around the end of a piece of twine. Insert wire into the holes in the spout and pull through to the inside of the can. Repeat for however many keys you plan on using.
  8. Gather the ends from inside the can and tie them altogether in a knot. Pull the opposite ends to bring the knot back through the spout. (The ends will now be hidden.)
  9. Tie keys on to end of each piece of twine.
  10. Glue bird inside of nest.
  11. Glue bird-nest inside of the watering can.
  12. Add adhesive pearl to decorative accent on side of the can.

Best for covered porches or decorative use.

Spring Bling for your Garden

Spring Bling for your Garden 3640

Add a little Spring Bling to plain boring terra cotta pots.

With Spring Fever setting in, I decided I needed a new flower to perk up the place.

I chose a pretty little African Violet that reminds me of my grandma.

Grandma loved African Violets.

In no time at all, armed with a few simple products, I transformed a boring terra cotta pot into

something sparkly and fun.  Just what I needed.

 To make my Spring Bling Pot you’ll need:      (*affiliate links)

  1. Start with a 4 1/2″ Terra Cotta Pot painted with black acrylic paint.
  2. Cut Black Damask tissue paper the width of the lower portion of the pot.  Cut the strip into smaller sections.  (my sections were 2 3/4″ x 1 1/2″)
  3. Apply a thin layer of Mod Podge to a small section of the pot, add tissue paper and apply another layer of Mod Podge over tissue.
  4. Continue adding tissue sections until the bottom of the pot is covered.
  5. Apply a thin layer of Mod Podge over the top of the pot to give it a nice shiny finish.
  6. Cut a strip from the Black Crystal Sheet to fit around the rim of the pot.
  7. Glue crystal sheet onto rim of the pot.
  8. Glue vintage button over seam for added sparkle.
  • FYI:  I could have used the Weldbond glue shown in the picture above which is a good permanent glue.  But, because of the weight of the crystals I decided to use my Quick Grip glue instead.

Do you ever need a really large Birthday Tag to make your present “POP”?

This tag uses Tattered Tangles a fun doodle art from Canvas Corp. Brands.

Tattered Tangles Collection is printed on a paper called Leather Paper making it

perfect for coloring and different paint techniques.

Supplies Used on the Tattered Tangles Happy Birthday Tag:

  1. Cut Tattered Tangles Birthday image down to 3-3/4″ to 6″.  Color image with colored markers.
  2. Add clear glitter glue to flame on the birthday candle.
  3. Adhere birthday image onto black cardstock.
  4. Adhere small scraps of teal and green burlap onto the corners of a 4-1/2 x 7-1/2″ piece of white cardstock.  Glue rick rack onto the top and bottom.  Layer onto another piece of black cardstock.
  5. Mount birthday image with foam mounting squares onto the burlap and white cardstock.
  6. Curl white curling ribbon and attach to the top of the tag with a small green clothespin.

  • 100366 Honeycomb Punch
  • 100434 Silver Foil Pink Harlequin Decorative Tape
  • 100418 Pull Flowers Chrysanthemum
  • 100146 Footprints Dimensional Sticker Embellishments

Additional Supplies:

  • Large White Tag 3 1/2” x 6 1/4”
  • Cardstock: White, Pink
  • Large White Button (Buttons Galore and More)
  • Fabri Tac Adhesive (Beacon Adhesives)
  • Tape Runner
  • Thin 3-D Foam Squares (Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L)
  • 5/16 Hole Punch
  • Silver Ribbon (Offray)
  • Computer Generated Font.

Directions:

  1. Punch a 3 1/2” pink cardstock border using the Honeycomb punch.
  2. Add a 3 1/2” strip of decorative tape onto a piece of white cardstock. Trim a very thin border on each side of the tape. Add decorative trim tape piece onto center of the Honeycomb border.
  3. Adhere border on the bottom of the tag.
  4. Cut 12” from the White Pull flowers trim. Fold trim in half and pull strings as directed to create flower.
  5. Add small pink feet stickers to a large white button. Glue embellished button to the center of the flower. Glue flower onto center of the tag.
  6. Create a pink banner from the Party Dies. Add to top of the top using thin foam mounting squares.
  7. Print out the letters: B A B Y using a computer and printer onto white cardstock.
  8. Punch out each letter using a 5/16th hole punch. Add the letters onto the banner with small thin mounting squares.
  9. Tie top of the tag with silver ribbon.

Confession:  I’m not sure if you noticed or not… 

I did not use a plain white strip under the washi tape on the first picture on this post.

You can see the honeycomb underneath.  I like it better with the white strip.  It’s a little crisper.

I tried retaking the picture of the tag over 100 times.  That one was my favorite.  (so I stuck with it)

Need a Lucky Hat for St. Paddy’s Day?

Using only a few Smoothfoam shapes you can make yourself a Lucky Hat centerpiece

in no time.  A fun centerpiece for all your “GREEN” celebrations.

Here’s what you’ll need:                                                                                    (*affiliate link)

Directions:

  1. Paint 8″ Half Ball and 10″ Disc with English Ivy paint.
  2. Repaint Disc and Half Ball with Kelly Green paint, allowing some of the darker paint to show through.
  3. Paint sides of 8″ Disc with Black paint.
  4. Glue 8″ Disc onto the 8″ Half Ball.
  5. Center and glue onto the  10″ Disc.
  6. For a shiny finish, paint the entire piece with Mod Podge.
  7. To create gold letters, paint the chipboard letters with a gold paint pen.

How to Make a Cigar Box Washi Tape Holder 2790

Making Creative Storage for my ever-growing collection of Washi Tape.

I have a small, growing collection of Washi Tape.

In addition to all its many uses, I find that they are just pretty to look at.

Previously, I had all my washi tape gathered in a canning jar, although pretty…

I found myself dumping the jar every time I wanted to use one.

Being on a “old drawer” kick, I decided to make a small washi tape holder using an old cigar box.

I used two sheets of scrapbook paper from Carta Bella’s “Warm & Cozy” collection.

basic supplies:  craft knife, cutting mat, craft glue, double stick tape roller and a metal label holder, black marker.

To Make a Cigar Washi Tape Holder:

  • Cut the lid off the cigar box.  Measure and cut the lid into two strips to fit inside your box as dividers.
  • Remove excess loose paper from box.
  • TIP:  Use a black permanent marker to color the inside corners of your box.  This will help keep any white from the box from showing.
  • Cover box with scrapbook paper.
  • Adhere paper over both dividers.
  • Apply craft glue onto bottom and sides of dividers and put into place.

Valentine Snickerdoodles

Valentine Snickerdoodle

One of my husband’s favorite cookie is the Snickerdoodle.

It’s been years since I’ve made them.

Since Valentine’s Day is in a couple days I thought I’d make him some as a Valentine’s surprise.

So what makes these cookies “Valentine Snickerdoodles”?

Nothing more than they’re made with LOVE!

(Oh… and the fact that I substituted red sugar in step #5.)

 

Snickerdoodles

  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  1. Heat oven to 400º.
  2. Cream butter, shortening, sugar and eggs.
  3. Blend in cream of tartar, baking soda, salt and flour.
  4. Shape into little balls.
  5. Mix the 2 tablespoons of sugar and the cinnamon.
  6. Roll balls into the sugar/cinnamon mix and place on ungreased cookie sheet approx. 2″ apart.
  7. Bake 8-10 minutes.

A fun little project to brighten your day.

Along with the Art Play Paintables that I used for the ADORNit Blog Hog,

I also received some great wood pieces, a pad of Blender Basics and some fun Art Play Prints.

To make the project:

  1. Paint the edges of the wood pieces with black acrylic paint.
  2. Glue paper from the Blender Basics pad onto the wood pieces using Mono Adhesive glue.
  3. Trim around the shapes with a craft knife and lightly sand the edges with a sanding block.
  4. Distress the edges with Vintage Photo Distress Ink and a Ink Applicator.
  5. Glue the two pieces together.
  6. Cut around the inner circle from the “Smile” Art Play Prints and glue to the center.

How to Make a Snowflake Hair Bow

To make my Snowflake Hair Bow you’ll need:

Supplies Needed:

Putting together the pieces 2070

Directions:

  1. Cut four 4″ pieces of 7/8″ Tranquil Blue Ribbon and four 4″ pieces of the Arabesque Ribbon.
  2. Remove wire from the Arabesque ribbon.  (white sheer)
  3. Cut four 3 1/2″ pieces of 3/8″ Tranquil Blue Ribbon and four 3 1/2″ pieces of Navy Satin.
  4. Thread needle and thread, tie with a knot leaving a long tail.
  5. Lay the 4″ white sheer ribbon over the 7/8″ Tranquil Blue Ribbon, fold the ribbon in half and stitch together with a simple running stitch.
  6. Lay the 3 1/2″ Navy Ribbon over the 3/8″ Tranquil Blue ribbon, fold the ribbon in half and add with a simple running stitch to the first section of ribbon.
  7. Continue stitching ribbon sections together.  (as shown in the picture above)
  8. Gather both ends of the thread, pull the ribbon together and tie with a knot.
  9. Cut eight 4″ of Arabesque sheer ribbon.  Remove wire from ribbon.
  10. Stitch ribbon together like in previous steps.  (see steps 6-8)
  11. Glue the two ribbon sections together with Fabri Tac glue.  (see picture below)
  12. Lightly apply blue ink onto white snowflake brad.  Wipe off excess ink.
  13. Remove prongs from the back of the snowflake brad and glue onto the white button.
  14. Glue button to the center of the bow.
  15. Glue or sew bow onto the metal barrette base.

Vintage Inspired Hearts

Directions:

  1. Cover Smoothfoam Heart with Newsprint paper using glue stick.
  2. Apply a thin coat of cream acrylic paint over heart.  Wipe off excess.
  3. Add Fired Brick Ink to heart using the ink applicator.  Accent the edges of the heart with the Vintage Photo Ink.
  4. Stick small word stickers onto center of heart.
  5. Apply mod podge over heart for added shine.

To make the heart an ornament:

  1. Poke a small hole into the top of the heart.
  2. Fold a 6″ piece of twine in half, thread bead onto twine.  Knot on both sides of the bead to keep in place.
  3. Add small dab of craft glue into hole and insert loose ends of twine.
