help her personalize gifts for a couple of special co-workers.  

She’s a great gift giver and likes to give thoughtful gifts.

(Each teacher was asked to fill out a survey of things they

liked including their favorite scripture verse.)

DIY Inspirational Tray using StyleTechCraft Vinyl

  • To start the project, she picked out a couple of Unfinished Wood Trays*. 
  • The bottom of the tray was painted white and lightly sanded before adding the vinyl scripture.  
  • We measured the inside of the tray to determine the size of the scripture we wanted to use.

  • Remove the vinyl from its white protective layer and place onto the center of the tray.

  • Rub over the vinyl with the scraper tool to transfer the vinyl onto the tray.
  • Gently lift the transfer paper from the vinyl.

FYI…the transfer paper is reusable.

We noticed after the trays were finished that we had somehow

missed the two dots on the Esther verse. 

We were able to easily recreate the dots and add them to

the finished tray.  I think they turned out great!

In addition to the finished tray, the gift included greenery, a candle, and a jar of “love notes” from the students.

Let it Snow Mug with Color Changing Vinyl

The new color changing vinyl from StyleTechCraft is fun for all ages.

Today we got our first Christmas snow.

So, when I should have been finishing up Christmas Cards, I spent the last couple

of hours playing with the heat color change vinyl and making this 30 second video.

Gnome for the Holidays

The Holiday Season isn’t even here yet, and Gnomes are popping up in stores everywhere.

That’s a good thing for me because I think they’re adorable.

I especially love the Holiday Gnomes.

Did you know that Gnomes are considered good luck?

The way things have been going this year, I’m going to need a lot more gnomes.

Have you tried making Gnomes yet?

I haven’t made any Gnomes yet myself, but it’s on my Holiday to-do list this year.

I thought this “Gnome for the Holidays” sign would look perfect with the two I already have.

I used StyleTechCraft metallic luster vinyl for a fun shimmery, metallic Holiday Decoration.

Directions:

  • Cut a piece of coordinating holiday scrapbook paper to fit inside of the frame.
  • Use the “Gnome for the Holidays” SVG cut file and the Silhouette Cameo Electronic Die Cutting Machine* to cut the pieces out of vinyl.
  • Use the vinyl pick tool to remove the excess vinyl from inside and around the letters and shapes.
  • Cut a piece of Vinyl Transfer Tape* to fit over the vinyl words.  Gently rub over the transfer paper using the squeegee tool.  Remove the vinyl from the white liner.
  • Using the transfer tape, line up the vinyl words onto the scrapbook paper.

  • Gently rub over the Vinyl Transfer Tape* to make sure all the image has transferred.   Remove the transfer tape.
  • Continue adding the vinyl layers that make up the Gnome.
  • Add into a fun red metallic frame and enjoy it.

Dog Treats for the First Day of School

Yesterday was Dexter’s First Day of School.

Dexter is our 9-month Shichon puppy.  He is a sweet, loving, energetic ball of fluff.

We adopted him two days before Valentine’s Day and about a month before everything

went nuts.  He’s not a quarantine puppy, but he’s sure been a bright spot during that time.

I’ve been on more walks and talked to more neighbors because of him.  He loves everyone!

Anyway…

In the list of instructions for the first day of class was to bring dog treats.  (lots of treats)

So, I decided to decorate a little jar for his treats.

I found the little plastic jar at Dollar Tree* and used vinyl to decorate it.

Here’s what I used to make my treat jar:

Directions:

  • Using a “Dog Bone Treats” SVG file from the Silhouette Store and the Silhouette Cameo Electronic Die-Cutting Machine*, cut out the images using StyletechCraft Transparent Vinyl in Sunflower and Brown.
  • Use the vinyl pick to remove the letters from dog bone, leave the inside pieces of the letters.
  • Cut a piece of Vinyl Transfer Tape* to fit over the vinyl image.  Gently rub over the transfer paper using the squeegee tool.  Remove the vinyl image from the white liner.
  • Overlay the brown bone onto the large orange bone silhouette.

  • Carefully apply the vinyl to the jar.  Give the vinyl a gentle rub using the squeegee to make sure everything has transferred and remove the transfer tape.
  • Add paw prints randomly around the jar using the transfer tape.
  • Tie with a paw print ribbon and fill with dog treats.

FYI…The First Day of School Sign was made by painting a small wood sign with black chalkboard paint and applying words created with StyleTechCraft White Craft Vinyl*.

Dexter is such a smart, sweet little boy. 

He’s our first dog and, he’s been a great addition to our family.  He brings a lot of smiles.

And by the way…he did really great during his first class!

Easy Peasy Upcycled Container

I love a good upcycled, recycled project.

Creating a useful item from something that would be thrown away or put in the recycling bin.

This project was made using an empty Nesquik container.

I have been drinking chocolate milk for as long as I can remember. My dad used to use the Nesquik containers in his garage to store nuts and bolts and lots of other small items. We found several vintage cans out in his garage when we were going through it.

I LOVE making things using craft vinyl and my Silhouette Cameo Electronic Die Cutting Machine*  There are so many things you can make and decorate.

Tip:  If you don’t have access to these products, you can still UPCYCLE/RECYCLE a container like the Nesquik Can using decorative paper, contact paper or stickers to personalize and embellish.  (Below are the directions and materials on how I upcycled my container.)

Directions:

  • Measures and cut two pieces of  vinyl to wrap around the container.  (I used one long piece and one shorter piece.)
  • Use the printed graphics on the side of the container to line up your edge.  Slowly wrap the vinyl around the container smoothing as you go to reduce the air bubbles.

  • Use the squeegee tool to smooth the vinyl.  If you can’t get rid of the air bubble with the squeegee tool you can use a small pin to poke a hole in the vinyl to release the air.

You can find the Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy SVG file at the Silhouette Design Store.

  • Use the vinyl pick to remove the letters from the vinyl lemon, leave the inside pieces of the letters.

  • Cut a piece of Vinyl Transfer Tape* to fit over the vinyl image.  Gently rub over the transfer paper using the squeegee tool.
  • Remove the vinyl from the white liner, center the image on the front of the can.
  • Gently rub over the Vinyl Transfer Tape* to make sure all the image has transferred.   Remove the transfer tape.
  • Repeat the process with the stem and leaf.

A fun little upcycled project, great for many different uses.  (not just in the garage)

Place several cans side by side for a cute and creative way to store supplies.

Just for Fun- DIY Golf Menu Board

DIY Golf Menu Board…

It started as a joke.

Last month, as my husband was painting the floor of the deck, I opened the window,

stuck my head out and asked if he wanted anything to drink.

He said we should put in a counter at the window so we could take orders.

I wanted a Pool Snack Bar, he really wanted the 19th Hole.

This is our compromise.

  • I painted a thin hardboard panel with several coats of DecoArt Americana Decor Black Satin Enamel Paint.
  • I gave the painted board a light sanding with steel wool to make it smooth.

Supplies Needed:

Directions:

  • Using an SVG Cut File purchased from the Silhouette Store, size and cut all the pieces using the Cameo Die-Cutting Machine.
  • Use the Vinyl Tools to “weed” out the negative spaces around your image.

  • Apply transfer tape over the image and give a gentle rub with using vinyl scraper tool to transfer the image to the tape.
  • Gently lift up to remove the image off white backing.

  • Align and place the image onto the board.
  • Give a rub with the vinyl scraper tool to transfer the vinyl onto the board.

My husband loves the board.  (I wonder if I can get him to pay?)

How to Personalize a Wine Glass with Glitter Vinyl

One of my favorite snack combinations is Wine and Popcorn.

It’s great for a casual party or a perfect movie night snack!

How to Personalize a Wine Glass with Glitter Vinyl

The great thing about StyleTechCraft Transparent Glitter Vinyl is that it’s the only film in the world that is colored glitter on both the inside and outside.

Directions:

  • The flower and leaves image used on the wine glass was purchased online as a “cut file” from the Silhouette Store.
  • Using the Silhouette Cameo Electronic Die Cutting Machine*, I resized the flower and leaves image to fit on the front of the wine glass.  (Mine was approx. 2 1/2″ x 1 3/4″)
  • Lay the vinyl on the cutting mat.  (Because my mat is old and not super sticky, I use a piece of removable tape to hold my vinyl on the mat.)
  •  Set machine on the vinyl setting, cut images out using the Silhouette Cameo Electronic Die Cutting Machine*.  Cut the image out in red and green adhesive glitter vinyl.
  • Use the Weeding Tool, to carefully remove the negative spaces in and around the image.

  • Cut a piece of Vinyl Transfer Tape* a little larger than the flower shape.
  • Lay the Vinyl Transfer Tape*on top of the flowers. Gently rub over the transfer paper using the vinyl scraper tool to make sure the image has transferred.

  • To help the vinyl stick securely to the glass…Wipe the surface of the wine glass with the alcohol wipe to remove any oils.   
  • Lay transfer paper onto glass. Because the surface is curved, start from the center of the image and rub one side at a time using vinyl scraper tool. The tool allows you to smooth the image and get rid of air bubbles.
  • Remove Vinyl Transfer Tape*.
  • Center leaves over floral design and repeat process.

Allow the vinyl to cure on the glass for 4 days before using. (Hand Wash Only)

And of course, you’re going to need a cute coaster to go with your wine glass.

  • Apply adhesive Silver Glitter Vinyl to the front of a chipboard coaster.  Trim around the edge of the coaster with a craft knife.
  • Create the words using red and black transparent and apply onto the coaster the same as the wine glass.  Enjoy!

Simple Summer Vase

Create a Simple Summer Vase using Transparent Adhesive Vinyl from StyleTechCraft.

Transparent vinyl is great when you just want to add a subtle touch of color.

It’s great for using on windows, glassware and just about anywhere else you want a unique look.

To create my Simple Vase I used:       (*affiliate links)

Directions:

  1. Cut several flower shapes using the Silhouette Cameo* and the Sky-Blue Transparent Vinyl.  Don’t have a electronic die cutter?  The transparent vinyl can be cut using various metal dies.
  2. Cut leaves out of the teal vinyl.
  3. Using the weeding tool, I carefully removed the negative spaces in and around the flowers and leaves.
  4. Place a piece of Vinyl Transfer Tape* over the flower image.  Apply transfer tape onto the cylinder vase and rub over the vinyl using a vinyl scraper tool to eliminate bubbles.
  5. Remove transfer tape.
  6. Repeat with the leaves.

Allow vinyl to cure for several days.  (Hand washing is recommended.)

I added a piece of white paper inside the vase so you can see the pattern better.

It’s hard to see in this picture the variation between the sky blue and teal vinyl.

Happy Holidays Chalkboard Sign

How to Create a Happy Holidays Chalkboard Sign with a Simple Button Bow.

I really enjoy working with vinyl and love coming up with simple Holiday DIY projects.

The Happy Holidays Sign was one of the projects we created in last month’s Holiday Workshop.

For my sign, I used Styletech Craft’s Ultra Metallic Glitter Adhesive Vinyl in red, green and

white.  The Ultra Metallic Glitter Vinyl has a white backing which ensures the colors stay bright

and true no matter what surface you apply it too.

To start my project…                                                                                 (*amazon affiliate links)

  • I used a piece of Wood Hardboard*.  (it’s like a hole-less peg board) I cut mine 5 1/2 x 7 1/2″.
  • Drill two small 3/8″ holes in the top of the board to use for hanging the sign.
  • Paint the board using DecoArt Black Chalkboard Paint*.
  • Lightly sand the board using 3M Sandpaper, 220-Grit*.  This smooths the board and allows a little bit of the brown board to show through for a vintage look.
  • Wipe the board with a clean soft cloth.

  • I applied the words on the chalkboard using Styletech Clear Vinyl Transfer Tape*.
  • I applied the word “Holidays” first and lined the word “Happy” over top.
  • Cut a small white snowflake using white ultra metallic vinyl and add onto the sign above the word happy.
  • Create a “Button Bow”  for the top of your “Happy Holidays Chalkboard Sign”.
  • Directions for “button bow” below.
  • Add twine to the two top holes for hanging.
  • Glue Button Bow onto the top of the “Happy Holidays Chalkboard Sign” using craft glue*.

How to Make a Holiday Button Bow…

  • Fold ribbon in thirds.  (like your getting ready to tie a tie.)
  • Gather and wrap twine around the center of the ribbon a couple of times and tie tightly.
  • Add a jump ring to the jingle bell and add onto one end of the twine and tie.
  • Add button to both ends of the twine and tie to the center of the bow.
  • Trim the ends of the ribbon and twine.
