Thankful & Blessed DIY Framed Inspiration

Directions:

  • Choose three pieces of coordinating 12″ x 12″ scrapbook paper to use in the frame.  
  • Cut the background paper to fit inside of the frame opening.  (mine measured 11 ½” x 11 ½”)
  • Cut and adhere a 4″ strip of paper to go horizontally across the center of the background. 
  • Using an SVG File (from the Silhouette Store) and my Silhouette Cameo Electronic Die Cutting Machine*, cut the words “Thankful & Blessed” out of StyleTechCraft Champagne Luster Adhesive Vinyl*.  I sized my words to fit on a 4″ x 5 ½” piece of mat board*.

  • Cover a 4″ x 5 ½” piece of mat board* with decorative scrapbook paper.
  • To cover the white core of the mat board, edge the mat board using a bronze chisel point paint marker.
  • Cut a 4 ¼” x 5 ¾” piece of Bronze Luster Vinyl*.  Apply the vinyl centered onto the strip
  • Adhere the covered mat board* centered over the Bronze Luster Vinyl*.

  • Rub over the vinyl words with the scraper tool to make sure the words have transferred to the mat board.

  • Gently lift and remove the transfer paper.
  • Add to the frame with or without the glass.

I have a simple boxwood wreath* that I purchased a few years ago that I love.

The best thing about the wreath is I can leave it plain (which I do a lot of the year).

Or, I can change it with the seasons.

I found this cute pumpkin cut-out* at Dollar Tree* and wasn’t sure what I would do with it.

But I knew I better pick it up while I was there. (those things seem to sell out real fast)

It turned out to be the perfect accent for my Hello Fall Pumpkin Wreath.

  • Place the words onto the pumpkin using transfer tape*.
  • Rub over the words with a vinyl scraper tool to make sure “the words” have transferred.

  • To make the Dollar Tree Mini Pumpkin Clips* match the painted wood pumpkin, I decided to paint them using the same acrylic paint colors.
  • Remove the stem and the metal clip from the pumpkin.
  • Because the mini pumpkins have a slick surface, I needed to prime the pumpkins with multi-media paint first.
  • For ease of painting, place a bamboo skewer* in the mini pumpkin. Paint with multi-media paint. After the paint has dried, paint with the same colors used on the wood pumpkin.
  • Reinsert the stem. Glue the clip in place using the glue gun*.

  • Create a simple bow using Ribbon and Twine and glue it onto the pumpkin.

  • Tie the finished pumpkin to the top of the wreath with twine.
  • Clip-on Mini Pumpkin Clips and insert fall picks.

Hello Fall Mini Candle Cup

I found this cute little ceramic cup on a recent trip to Hobby Lobby.

As adorable as it was, it looks even better with StyleTechCraft Vinyl on it.

In my opinion, adding a little vinyl makes most things a little better.

For the Love of Old Trucks…

When I first shared Eileen’s New Vintage Truck in June, I said, “Can you imagine it as an old

rusty pickup filled with miniature pumpkins?” Well, here it is.

Except it’s not rusty looking and old…

instead I tricked it out with a shiny new paint job.  (so to speak)

How to Create a Vintage Pumpkin Truck with Eileen Hull Vintage Truck Die* from Sizzix.

  • Instead of painting the pieces of the truck, I used adhesive vinyl on the truck parts before die-cutting them.
  • Cut a piece of mat board slightly larger than the shape you are going to die-cut.
  • Apply vinyl on both sides of the mat board and die-cut the shape using the Vintage Truck Die* and the Big Shot Die-Cutting Machine*.

Vintage Truck Parts and Pieces

  • When all the pieces have been die-cut, go around the edges with a black calligraphy paint marker. Adding paint to the edges will cover up the white core of the mat board and give the pieces more detail.
  • Adhere the pieces of the truck together using Rapid Fuse Adhesive*.

Adapting the truck to carry a wider load.

  • I wanted the truck to have a wider body, to carry a larger load.  
  • After die-cutting the bottom piece for the truck bed, cut the piece in half.  
  • I cut a second piece of mat board 2″ x 6″.  (or you could even cut it a little wider than that)
  • Glue the scored die-cut pieces to the bottom of the larger mat board using Rapid Fuse Adhesive*.

How to Create a Mini Beach Painting using Acrylics and Vinyl.

It's the Little Things Mini Painting

It’s the Little Things that Make Life Grand.

Inspired by my recent trip to the ocean, I decided to create a simple mini painting

to add to the shell collection on my mantel.

How to create a mini painting using paint and vinyl.

Directions:

  • Start two-thirds down on your mat board and start blending shades of blue and white acrylic paint. 
  • Leaving the bottom third for painting the sand.
  • Add a thin layer of white paint between the blue and the sand.
  • Allow the paint to dry. You can speed up the process using a hairdryer.

How to create a mini painting using paint and vinyl.

  • Using an SVG File (from the Silhouette Store) and my Silhouette Cameo Electronic Die Cutting Machine*, I cut out the words “It’s the Little Things…” out of Blue and Light Blue Chrome Adhesive Vinyl.
  • Place the words onto the mat board using transfer tape*.
  • Rub over the words with a vinyl scraper tool to make sure “the words” have transferred.

How to create a mini painting using paint and vinyl.

  • The smaller words were cut out of Light Blue Chrome Vinyl* and placed on the mat board first.
  • The larger cursive words were cut out of Blue Chrome Vinyl*.
  • I used the spacing provided with the SVG file to determine where to place the larger words.

  • Using a vinyl scraper tool, rub over transfer paper to make sure the words have transferred to the mat board.
  • Gently pull the transfer paper away from the mat board.

For this one, instead of painting sand, I went with a blue Ombre look.

Instead of using two tones of blue, I used Brushed Gold Chrome Vinyl*.

Our Family Vacation.

My son and his family joined us on our vacation this year.

I loved being together with them.

It was so much fun watching the boys play in the sand and learn how to boogie board.

Even the four-year-old became a “Boogey Board Pro”!

Opal Butterfly Card

Opal Vinyl Butterfly Card Tips:

  • For this card, I used the Butterfly SVG file from the Silhouette Store.  
  • I wanted to give the butterflies dimension on this card. So, I adhered the opal vinyl onto white cardstock before cutting out the butterflies using a Silhouette Cameo Electronic Die-Cutting Machine*.  
  • When cutting out the butterflies, I set my machine on heavy cardstock and used “3 passes” to cut out the butterflies.
  • Cut the butterflies using several shades of opal vinyl. Place the butterflies into a Dotted Embossing Folder, run the embossing folder through the Big Shot Die-Cutting Machine*.
  • Use a fine tip black deco color paint marker* to add black dots over the embossed dots.

  • Cut the words “Happy Birthday” out of black craft vinyl and adhere the greeting onto the bottom of the card using Vinyl Transfer Tape*.
  • Tie a simple white sheer ribbon to finish off this Summery Card.

Summer Crafting with Unconventional Materials

Last year, for the first time, I collected seeds from various flowers in my garden.  

This year, once those seeds were planted, I needed a creative way to identify the flowers.  

Using plastic cut from a Milk Jug and Alcohol Ink, I created artsy flower pot labels.

Directions:

  • Protect your work surface.  (this can be a messy project)
  • Cut the flat sides of the milk jug into 2 ½” x 3 ½” strips.
  • Fill the mini mister* with alcohol*.

  • Drop several drops of alcohol ink* onto the plastic.
  • Spray the alcohol inks with the alcohol-filled mini mister to make the inks run and spread.
  • Use a straw to direct the spread of the inks.

  • Once the inks have dried, spray the plastic with a matte acrylic sealer to help weatherproof the label.

I have several small pots of flowers growing.  I will eventually place some of them in the ground.  

The others I will leave in the pots.  I will harvest the seeds again in the fall.

This was a very cost-effective way to add beautiful blooms to my garden.

One of my most favorite places to be is the beach (my happy place). 

It’s been 3 long years since we’ve been to the ocean and I can hardly wait.  

With our big family beach vacation just a few weeks away, I thought this would be the perfect

time to play with my NEW StyleTechCraft Sun Vinyl*.

The Sweet Life Tiny Book

The Sweet Life Tiny Book.

The theme for Eileen Hull’s teams this month was “Crafting with Unconventional Materials”.

I do love a crafty challenge. I’ll admit this one stumped for a minute or two.

This challenge had my waistline taking one for the team.

The mini Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups were leftover from Easter.

I can’t think of a better way to use them up.

Directions:

  • Carefully unwrap the peanut butter cup wrappers.  Smooth out the wrinkles using your fingernail.
  • Place the wrappers into the opening of the disposable sticker maker.  Pull the wrappers through on the back of the machine, tear.

  • Cut the wrappers into smaller strips and pieces.

  • Carefully peel the wrappers from the adhesive backing and place them randomly onto a 3 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ piece of matboard.
  • Lay the matboard on the Sizzix Tiny Book Die facedown.
  • Run the die through the Big Shot Die-Cutting Machine* to cut out the Tiny Book cover.

Crafting with Candy Wrappers

  • Carefully fold the book on the score lines.
  • Cut two pieces of white cardstock 2 3/4″ x 11″.  Score both pieces of cardstock every 2 1/8″ to create a long accordion piece.  You will end up with a small tab at the end of both strips.  Use the first tab to connect the strips.  Cut the second tab off.  Refold to make a long accordion strip.
  • Adhere both ends of the cardstock into the front and back cover.

StyleTechCraft's Cold Color Changing Vinyl.

Directions:

StyleTechCraft's Cold Color Changing Vinyl.

  • Cut a piece of Vinyl Transfer Tape* to fit over the vinyl image.  Gently rub over the transfer paper using the squeegee tool.

  • Remove the vinyl from the white liner, center the image on the front of the mug.
  • Gently rub over the Vinyl Transfer Tape* to make sure all the image has transferred.  Remove the transfer tape.

The flower pattern on the mug (before changing) has a subtle etched glass appearance.
