Happiness Pillow…

One of my favorite childhood memories was the summer I was cast as Lucy in the library’s

production of “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown”.

My favorite song was “happiness is”. At the end of the show we all held hands and sang.

Still makes me happy.

When it comes to using Joy Iron-on letters…

I’ve dyed them, inked them and even misted the letters, I never thought about painting them.

Paint each letter to create a rainbow of H-A-P-P-I-N-E-S-S.
Allow letters to fully dry.

Insert cardboard into pillow blank.
Add Fabric Medium to acrylic paint white and light blue paint.
Paint directly onto the canvas pillow.
Allow paint to fully dry.
Set Iron to cotton setting, approx. 350 degrees, or follow garment care label.
Position letters with shiny side down onto pillow
Cover letters with a fine cloth. With a firm pressure, iron cloth over letters for 30 seconds.
Turn pillow over and iron the back for another 30 seconds.
Position Embroidered Floral Applique and iron onto pillow the same as the letters.
Allow to cool for 1 minute before handling.
Insert pillow form or add Polyfil.

How to Create a Beaded Bridal Pouch

A Gift for that special Bride…

Create a special pouch for the Bride-to-be to keep her wedding day jewelry safe while in

transport. Personalize it with Joy Iron On Embroidered letters.

To make the Bridal Pouch here’s what you’ll need:

- JOY 8501 Letter Shop Letter Iron On Sheet, 1″, Metallic Gold*
- 7″ x 12″ piece of white felt
- Iron Beaded Trim from Expo International
- Sewing Machine
- Iron
- Scissors
- Hook and Loop Tabs*

Directions:

Fold over one end of the felt approx. 4″.
Sew along the edge of each side to create the pouch.
Iron the beaded trim onto the opposite end of the felt by laying a fine cloth over the trim and ironing over it for 25 sec.
Cut excess felt around the top of the beaded trim to create a scalloped edge.
Position the letters spelling “Bride” onto the front of the pouch with the shiny side down.
Cover letters with a fine cloth.
With firm pressure iron cloth over the letters for 25 seconds.
Turn flap of the pouch over and iron the back for an additional 25 seconds.
Add Velcro to the flap to keep the pouch closed.

You can also use the beaded-iron on trim to make into a bracelet, belt or headband.

For the beaded bracelet…

Measure the size of your wrist.
Cut a piece of felt approx. 3/4″ longer than your trim.
Arrange trim onto felt so that only one end has the extra felt.
Lay a clean soft cloth over trim and iron onto the felt.
Cut excess felt around the beaded trim to create a scalloped edge.
Add hook and loop tabs* to the end of the felt.

Welcome your visitors with an Americana Wreath for your front door.

How to make the Americana Ribbon Wreath

I used a 14″ ruled wreath from Smoothfoam.
Glue one end of the ribbon down onto the foam wreath and wrap the ribbon tightly around the first section. Glue second end of the ribbon in place before starting second color. (I used Beacon Fabri-Tac Permanent Adhesive* to glue my ribbon in place.)
Using a thin floral wire, wire the small floral stems onto the base of the wreath.
Glue larger flowers and leaves onto the wreath over the wire.
Add large stemmed butterfly and ribbon to hang.

So many possibilities.

Create custom numbers to match the project by spraying numbers with glimmer mist.

Allow numbers to fully dry before using .

Directions:

Cut a shapes using the picture above.
The flowers were made using a simple hand drawn flower shape and traced onto the felt.
Add red ink to the tips of the cream flowers with a stencil brush.
Machine stitch the gray scalloped square onto the tan square
Machine stitch the roof onto house and machine stitch onto the gray scalloped square.
Iron numbers onto the center of the red heart.
Arrange and adhere smaller pieces onto house using fabri tac glue.
Hand stitch smaller pieces and buttons into place using needle and thread.
Add finish piece into a shadow box frame.

5 Creative Ideas for using Beaded Iron On Trim from Expo International.

When I received this selection of beautiful beaded trim from Expo International,

the creative wheels really started to spin.

I couldn’t narrow it down to just one project, so I created five. (Lucky You!)

But why stop there…

Today, I’m participating with several other designers of Designer Craft Connections

for a fun Blog Hop using the trims from Expo International.

Every designer got something different, so it should be good. (details below)

#1 Vases…

Turn a simple Dollar Tree* glass cylinder or empty cappuccino bottle in a Elegant Vase.

Spray the top of the Dollar Tree cylinder vase with Gold Glitter Spray Paint* and glue the trim onto the vase with Beacon Zip Dry Glue*. (*affiliate link)

Try gluing two or more pieces of beaded trim to the bottom of a empty jar or vase.

#2 Baskets

Embellish the band of a plain basket for a little extra style.

Add a even more personality by gluing iron embroidered letters.

#3 Festival Bracelets

Have fun this summer with easy to make Festival Bracelets.

Measure the size of your wrist.
Cut a piece of denim or felt approx. 3/4″ longer than your trim.
Arrange trim onto fabric so that only one end has the extra fabric.
Lay a clean soft cloth over trim and iron on the fabric.
Add hook and look tabs* to the end of the fabric.

#4 Jazzed Up Pockets

Jazz up the pockets of jeans, shorts or jacket.

#5 Bridal Pouch

Create a special pouch for the Bride to keep the wedding day jewelry safe while in transport.

My Little Soccer Fan

Now that Spring Soccer Season is upon us and both big brothers are playing soccer….

this little guy finds himself spending a lot of time sitting on the sidelines.

Or running off onto the field. (he really gets into the game)

He needed a “Game Day” shirt to support his big brothers.

To make the “Little Soccer Fan” shirt you will need:

Iron On Embroidered Letters – Cooper White
Iron On Embroidered Letters – LetterShop White
Cotton T-Shirt

Set iron to cotton setting, approx. 350°, or follow garment care label.
Remove letters from sheet.
Remove protective covering from the Cooper White letters then position on the t-shirt.
Cover letters with a fine cloth. With firm pressure, iron over the letters for 30 seconds.
Turn t-shirt inside out and iron the back of the letters for 30 seconds.
Allow to cool for 1 minute before handling.

“Dyeing” for Spring

Welcome Spring with all your beautiful flowers, warmer days and everything renewed.

My Welcome Spring Banner turned into a real labor of love.

I began this project with the idea of using fun pink and purple hand cut felt flowers.

After I cut all the flowers and leaves, I decided to dye the embroidered letters.

The letters turned out so soft and delicate, I needed something softer for the flowers.

So…more flowers and more dyeing! (make sure to read all the instructions below.)

I could of kept things simple and glued all the flowers in place, but noooo…

instead at the last minute I committed myself to stitching the entire thing.

Let me tell you…I’m not a stitcher! (But, I am pretty satisfied by the way they turned out.)

To make the Welcome Spring Banner you’ll need:

Joy® iron-on embroidered letter sheet-white
White Felt
Dye Ink – blue, green, pink and lavender
Mini Misters* (two)
Small Wood Dowel or Bamboo Skewer
18″ Jute
Needle and thread
Beacon Adhesives Felt Glue*
Non Stick Craft Mat*
Buttons
Trim

Add several drops of dye ink to each misting bottle.
Remove letters from backing sheet and place on a Non Stick Craft Mat* or (wax paper).
Spritz the letters with both blue and green ink for a variegated look. Allow the ink to soak into the letters then dab away excess ink and water with a paper towel. Let dry.

Look at how beautiful the letters dried. ↓

4. Create simple, hand drawn flowers (small, medium and large), circle and leaf patterns onto plain white paper. Cut then trace around the patterns onto white felt. Cut out.

5. Spray the leaves green, set aside then spray the flowers and circles one color at a time. Allow them to dry overnight.

6. Layer the circle, small flower and large flower on top of each other then stitch in place. Use a small amount of glue to hold the pieces in place while you stitch.

I love how the ink pooled at the edges of the pink flowers!

7. To create the banner shape, fold a 10″ x 14″ piece of white felt in half lengthways. Cut diagonally across the bottom from the center fold to a point about 3″ up from the bottom corner on the outer edges. Stitch the flowers to the banner using a button at the center of each one. Tuck leaves underneath the outer edges of the flowers then stitch in place.

8. Set iron to cotton setting, approx. 350°, or follow garment care label. Position letters with shiny side down on felt, then iron the letters in place as shown. Cover letters with a fine cloth. With firm pressure, iron cloth over the letters for 30 seconds. Turn banner over and iron the back of the letters for 30 seconds.

9. Use a sewing machine to stitch the banner to backing material, then stitch trim in place across the top and around the bottom edge if desired.

If you need to finish your banner in less time, glue the flowers, leaves and trim in place, then use a fusible interfacing to adhere the felt banner to a backing.

Make it Personal

Re-purpose a canvas bag and make it personal!

Last year I received a really nice, large and sturdy canvas bag from a event I attended.

While I really do appreciate all the sponsor’s named on that bag…

I knew I use it more if I made it personal.

With Joy Iron-on Embroidered letters personalizing it was a snap…

choosing from the large variety of colors and fonts available wasn’t quite as easy.

Step one… Remove the sponsor’s iron-on transfer logo with a

XYRON Adhesive Eraser (*affiliate link).

While this may not work for every type of bag, it worked great on this one.

Making it Personal…

Set dry iron to cotton setting.
Surface of fabric to which letters are to applied should be clean.
Cover Letters with a lightweight or sheer pressing cloth.
Using firm pressure, iron over letters for 30 seconds.
Turn item over, iron on back for 30 seconds.
Allow to cool before handling.

DIY…Mad for Plaid Baby Bib

Life gets messy sometimes…with this cute little washable flannel bib, it’s ok.

It’s no secret that I love plaid, especially red plaid.

And…since I had red flannel left over from a pillow project, I decided to make my sweet

grandson a cute little bib. It never hurts to have a extra bib or two for those times when

he needs to get messy.

This is how I made my “Get Messy” flannel bib…

I made a pattern for my flannel bib by folding an old bib in half and laying it “fold to fold” on a folded piece of cardstock.
I wanted the new bib to be a little bigger than the original bib, so, I sketched it with pencil marks to extend the pattern.
Cut out the pattern and trace two bibs onto the flannel using a black permanent marker. Cut out bibs from the flannel.
Sew bibs together leaving space on one end to turn bib inside out. Iron bib to make it lay flat.
Sew a top seam around bib and to close the open end.
Personalize the bib using Iron-on Embroidered letters from Joy SA.
Attach Velcro on each end to close bib.

Making it Cozy…

Cozy up the house this Winter with a personalized flannel pillow!

When the holidays are “really” over and everything is finally packed away…

it’s time for me to relax, cozy up with a comfy pillow, warm blanket and a good book.

I love to hibernate in the winter. (I really don’t like the cold)

That’s when I start layering up the house (and me) with blankets and pillows.

I like it warm and “cozy”.

To make my Cozy pillow you’ll need:

Joy® Large Iron-on Embroidered Monograms
2 pieces of Flannel- 15 x 15
Pillow Form, 14 by 14-Inch* or Poly-Fil*
Sewing Machine

Directions:

With right sides together, sew three sides of the flannel pieces together to create the pillow cover. Turn so the right side is facing out.
Position the letters on the front then, following directions on the back of the package, iron in place using a pressing cloth. Let cool then turn the pillow cover inside out and iron again from the back. Let cool for at least one minute, then turn again with the right sides out.
Insert the pillow form then stitch then the pillow cover closed.
