If you’re a fan of clean and simple cards, it doesn’t get much easier than this one.

Directions:  

  • Cut a 2 ½” x 5″ piece of cream cardstock.  Place the cardstock into the Xyron Create A Sticker Mini*.  Crank the handle of the Sticker Maker to run the paper through the machine.  As it runs through the machine it adds a complete layer of adhesive to the back of the paper.
  • Cut a gold foiled paper and run it through the Xyron Create A Sticker Mini*.

  • Place the “believe” die sandwiched between the Mini Maker cutting plates.  Turn the handle to run the die through the Mini Maker Die Cut Machine.
  • By running the paper through the Xyron Create A Sticker Mini* first, it creates a sticker out of the die-cut piece.
  • Cut the gold background and stars using the adhesive gold foiled paper, die, and the Mini Maker.

Elegant and Easy Holiday Card

  • Cut a 3 ¾” x 5″ cream cardstock layer.  Place the gold foiled believe background, believe words and gold foiled stars directly onto the cardstock layer.
  • Place several thin 3D foam squares* onto the back of the cardstock layer.
  • Adhere the layer onto the front of a 4 ¼” x 5 ½” cream card.
  • Tie a simple gold ribbon around the front of the card.

or a Starbucks gift card.  Who wouldn’t love getting that for Christmas?

The card uses the Coffee Die Set from The Maker’s Movement.

Holiday Joy Gift Card Money Holder

Directions:

  • The tri-fold card was made from a 5 ½” x 9 ¾” piece of Kraft Cardstock. I scored the cardstock on the 3 ¼” and 6 ½” mark.
  • Adhere the green plaid layer to the gold cardstock layer. Adhere onto the front of the tri-fold card.
  • Assemble and adhere the die-cut pieces of the coffee cup onto the front of the card. The red plaid pieces and vellum coffee lid have been made into stickers using a Xyron Creative Station.  The “coffee sleeve” was embossed using the sweater embossing folder.
  • Remove the backing off the gridded transfer paper. Apply the transfer paper over the word “Holiday”.  Gently rub over the transfer paper to make sure the word has transferred.  Apply onto the top of the card.
  • Add clear adhesive enamel dots to the lid of the coffee cup.
  • The transfer paper is reusable. Use the transfer paper to apply the small snowflake onto the cup.
  • On the inside of the card… Open the trifold card. Adhere the thin red plaid adhesive strip to the top of the cream cardstock layer.  (Leave a 1/8” margin on the top) Trim the excess paper strip.  Using the transfer paper, transfer the word “Enjoy” under the red strip.
  • On the third-panel measure and mark 1 ½” on the outside edge of the panel. On the inside fold of the third panel, measure and mark 2 ½”.  Draw a line from the 2 ½” mark to the 1 ½” mark.  Cut along the line and the inside fold to create a diagonal pocket flap.  Adhere the thin green strip to the top of the diagonal panel and trim excess.
  • Punch a small hole in the center of the green panel and attach the small cream tag with twine. Apply the small red plaid heart to the center of the tag.
  • Add adhesive to the bottom and side of the flap. Adhere flap to the center panel.

Cozy Watercolor Leaves Cardmaking Tips…

  • One of my favorite tips for die-cutting small pieces is to run the paper through the Xyron Creative Station* to add a layer of adhesive to the back before I die-cut. The paper pieces become stickers which make adhering them to cards very easy.
  • Die-cut the leaves out of cream cardstock.
  • Watercolor the leaves using ink from an ink pad and a waterbrush. I applied the ink directly onto a lamented piece of paper (or use a non-porous surface) and picked up the ink with the waterbrush.

  • The card measures 5″ x 6 ½”.
  • Cut a moss green cardstock layer 4¾” x 6 ¼”.  
  • Using the large circle die from the die set, cut a hole in the center of the cardstock layer. Adhere the layer onto a cream cardstock base.
  • Cut the words “let’s get cozy” out of champagne luster adhesive vinyl. Remove backing from the vinyl and apply it to the center of the circle.
  • Build a layered wreath on the top and bottom of the circle. Add small dots using the small circles dies from the set to the top of the card.

Details and Helpful Tips for making the Fall Woodland Friends Card…

  • When coloring stamped images with markers, I like to stamp my image on watercolor paper first. The watercolor paper helps when blending the inks.
  • It’s best to use a fast-drying permanent ink, like VersaFine Black Instant Dry Pigment Ink*. The Versafine ink keeps your stamped outline from bleeding when coloring the image.
  •  I like to stamp the images that I will be working with several times on watercolor paper to experiment with different color combinations.

  • Start with a darker marker and color and bring shades to the outside edge of the image, do not fully color the stamped image.
  • Choose a second lighter marker to blend the darker colors.

  • Align the coordinating die with the stamped image.  Place a small piece of washi tape (or a removable tape) to hold the die in place while die-cutting.
  • Run the stamped image and die through the Mini Maker Die-Cutting Machine to cut out the image.

  • “Fussy cut” a 1 1/2″ border using the “fall leaves” paper from the Autumn Breeze paper pad.
  • It helps when fussy cutting to use detail scissors.
  • To cover up the white core of the paper, I use a light gray marker to color the edges of the paper.

  • Layer a strip of striped paper onto a 2″ plaid strip of paper. (both from the paper pad)
  • Adhere the “fall leaves” border and the “striped” layer onto the 6″ x 6″ turquoise leaves paper.
  • Cut the card front to 4″ x 6″.
  • I used 3D Foam Squares* to adhere the Woodland Friends to the front of the card.

  • Adhere the card front onto a 4 1/4″ x 6 1/4″ turquoise cardstock layer and then onto a 4 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ pumpkin-colored cardstock layer.
  • My finished card is 5″ x 7″.
  • I didn’t have a top folding 5″ x 7″ card, so I made one. I used watercolor paper as my card base.
  • Adhere the card front to a 5″ x 7″ piece of watercolor paper.
  • Cut a second piece of watercolor paper 5″ x 8″. Score the paper at 1″ from the top and fold over.
  • Adhere the card front onto the folded tab.
  • Tie a piece of orange ribbon onto the front of the card. The ribbon hides the folded tab.

How to Make a Not So Spooky Halloween Shaker Card.

Directions:

  • I used the Halloween Scene from the Tricks and Treats paper pad for the base of my card. I cut off a 1/2″ off both sides of the paper, making it 5″ x 6″. (The finished card measures 5 1/4″ x 6 1/4″.)
  • Die-cut a large scalloped square frame out of the purple plaid paper from the paper pad.
  • Die-cut a large foam square using the foam cutter die. The foam square will fit under the scalloped square frame.
  • Because I didn’t want the white sides of the foam showing in my shaker element, I used black calligraphy (chisel point) paint marker to color the outside and inside of the foam square. Place the foam square onto the card base. (as shown above)
  • Add “Tricks and Treats” shaker sprinkles into the center of the foam square.
  • Cut a 3 1/4″ x 3 1/4″ piece of clear acetate. Remove the blue protective covering from both sides of the acetate.
  • Remove the top protective coating from the foam square and place the acetate onto the foam.
  • Add adhesive under the purple plaid scalloped square and place it over the acetate lined up with the foam square.

Die-Cutting Tip…

  • When cutting small die-cut pieces, I like to run the paper through the Xyron Create a Sticker Mini*.  After die-cutting, they become little stickers. That makes applying the die-cuts a whole lot easier.

  • Apply the Spider Web die-cut onto the inside corner of the shaker element.
  • Add the words “Happy Halloween” onto the front of the card.

DIY Felt Pumpkin Banner

How to make a Felt Pumpkin Banner for Fall.

This past weekend in the middle of my Paper Crafting Fall Home Décor project,

I was inspired to sew up this cute felt pumpkin banner. It didn’t hurt that I already

had the sewing machine out (because I had to mend the dog bed, once again).

DIY Felt Pumpkin Banner

I used the Pumpkin Die from The Maker’s Movement to cut out the felt pieces.

The pumpkin die is used for cutting paper and not necessarily to cut fabric and felt.

While the die does not always cut through the felt, it did leave deep impressions.

I used the deep impressions as my guide to cut out the remainder of the shape.

(not recommended on smaller detailed pieces.)

DIY Felt Pumpkin Banner

Directions:

  • I used a pre-cut 9″ x 12″ Antique White Felt for the base of the banner.
  • On the bottom of the Felt, make a small mark at 4 1/2″ the center.  Measure and mark on both sides, starting from the bottom, at 3″.  Draw light lines from the 3″ mark to the center mark.  Cut along the lines to create the bottom point of the banner.
  • Die-cut pumpkin pieces.
  • Place the pumpkin pieces and the letters on the banner to decide on the correct placement.  (make sure to allow space up on top for the trim and the rod pocket)
  • Remove letters and set them aside.
  • Sew around pieces of the pumpkin using a sewing machine.  (if you’re good at hand stitching, that would be even better)
  • Place iron-on embroidered letters onto the banner, cover with a thin cloth, and iron according to directions on the packaging.
  • Sew a piece of decorative trim near the top of the banner.
  • Cut a second piece of Antique White Felt the same size as the first.
  • Sew the top closed, leave a small 1/4″ border.  Create a small rod pocket by sewing another seam at approx. 1 1/4″.
  • Sew around the remainder of the banner.
  • Create a small tassel using a wood bead and thin braided decorative trim.  Poke a small hole on the point of the banner and tie the tassel.  Because my Trim had a slick surface, I added a tiny bit of Fabri-Tac Adhesive* under the bead and at the knot that ties my tassel.

Fall Paper Crafted Home Décor

A Simple Fall Paper Crafted Home Décor Project.

It’s so much fun to decorate for Fall with its vibrant and colorful hues.

I’d love Fall even more if it didn’t turn into Winter after it was all over.

For the framed dimensional pumpkin, I decided to use my paper crafting skills

to make a fun and easy Home Décor for Fall.

Directions:

  • Cut two pieces of Double-Sided Adhesive Foam 5″ x 6″ and 4″ x 5″.
  • Cut two pieces of orange plaid paper from the paper crafting paper the same size as the foam.
  • Remove the protective coating from one side of the foam and place the paper onto the adhesive.
  • Place pumpkin die outlines over the foam and die-cut the shape using the Crossover II Die-Cutting Machine*.  You may need to run the die back and forth a couple of times through the machine to make sure all the layers have been cut.
  • Repeat the process with the die-cutting of the stem and leaves.

  • For the words used on the front of the pumpkin, run a small strip of striped paper through the Xyron Sticker Maker Mini*.
  • Place the word dies onto the paper and die-cut.  (you may want to put a small piece of tape on the dies to keep them in place)

  • I have a weakness for old frames and I love to pick them up whenever I see a good deal. (I think this one was a quarter.) It now makes the project an Up-Cycled project which makes it extra special.
  • Remove the glass and the backing from the frame and spray with ivory spray paint.

  • The frame measures 7 1/4″ x 7 1/4″ with a 6″ x 6″ opening.
  • Replace the 90’s picture with a 6″ x 6″ piece of coordinating scrapbook paper. (I placed the glass behind the scrapbook paper to give the project more stability. Also, I will have it if I want to reuse the frame for another project later.)
  • Remove the adhesive from the back of the pumpkin pieces and place it inside the frame.

Capturing the First Day of School Smiles…

As a kid, I always looked forward to going back to school.

New clothes, new supplies, and the new fall lineup on TV.

As a mom, I was a little sad sending them.

It always felt like summer was over as soon as the kids went back to school.

I was never that mom that couldn’t wait for them to go back.

But once we got back into the routine, everything was good again.

(The layout is of my older two Grandsons First Day of School.)

Die-Cutting Tips…

  • For better results with dies that have grooves, use thick or double-layered cardstock.
  • I adhered two pieces of cardstock together using the Xyron Create-A-Sticker Mini*.
  • I also added a second layer of adhesive to the cardstock before cutting the pieces out using the Mini Maker Die Cutting Machine.
  • You will want to run it through and then back again to make sure that all layers have been cut.
  • Each little die-cut piece becomes a sticker which makes it easy to put all the parts together.

Apple Cider Stand Card

One of my favorite fall memories is taking my family to Tanner’s Apple Orchard.  

At Tanners, we would pick apples, find the best pumpkin,

get lost in the corn maze, pet the animals, and play games.

Before we left, we’d always go into their store.

Once inside the little store, they had a giant barrel with a spigot for pouring yourself a

cup of free cider.  Even though there was a “one per customer” sign, hardly anyone had

just one taste.  (especially my son)

One of my favorites was the Apple Cider Donuts that we’d eat on the car ride home.

Simple Watercolor Background

  • The key to the background is to use watercolor paper.
  • Stamp a small square using the inkpads onto a piece of something non-porous like a plastic lid.  (you can also use watercolor paint)
  • Add a tiny bit of water to the ink to dilute the color and brush on a simple swish with a wet brush to create the background.  I like to use a waterbrush.

Building the Flower Stand

  • I used woodgrain scrapbook paper to create the boards of the cider stand.
  • The cider stand die has three sizes of “board dies” to cut and build the stand.
  • I adhered two pieces of paper together to create thickness. Run the paper and the dies through the Crossover II die-cutting machine to cut the shape.
  • I used basic building construction to make my stand.
  • For the awning, I die-cut two pieces. (one plaid, one rust) Cut two sections from the rust die-cut and adhere to the striped awning piece.

Lots of Dimension and Details

  • What makes this card special is all the little details.
  • I used Vintage Photo Distress Ink to the edges of my pieces to make them look more realistic.
  • I used a lot of foam dots behind the various pieces to create a lot of dimension.
  • I doubled up the foam dots under the awning and sign.

My Cider Stand needed pumpkins.

  • I used the pumpkin stamp from the “Home from the Holidays Stamp Set”.
  • Stamp the pumpkin using black ink onto a marigold color cardstock.
  • Using the Tombow Markers, color in the image.  I like to go lightest to darker.

You Color My World Card

You Color My World Card…

There are people in this world that bring sunshine and color into everyone’s life.

My goal is to be one of those people.

It’s not always easy, but it sure is worth it.

As I always told my kids, you have the power to change someone’s day just by your smile.

In the famous words of Buddy Elf, “I like Smiling. Smiling’s my Favorite”.

The “You Color My World” card mimics a Watercolor Paint Set.

For this card, I wanted a little more upscale look than traditional primary colors.

I made my watercolor paint using rich colors and patterns on a wood-look base.

I used the Color My World Slimline Die Set die set from The Maker’s Movement.

Directions:

  • Die-cut the base of the card, using the slimline die set, out of wood-look scrapbook paper using the Cross Over II Die-Cutting System.
  • Die-cut the paint pieces out of patterned paper.
  • Die-cut the “paint pods” out of silver cardstock.
  • I like to run the paper through the Xyron Create a Sticker Mini before die-cutting to make the pieces into stickers. It makes assembling all the parts so much easier.
  • Assemble all the pieces onto the layered cardstock base.

The trick to applying the letters…

  • Make the letters into stickers.  I ran silver cardstock through the Xyron Create-A-Sticker Mini* before die-cutting to add adhesive on the back of the paper.  Once die-cut, the letters became little stickers.  So much easier than trying to glue them into place.
  • To help line the words up straight, I used a clear-gridded transfer tape* to apply to letters.
  • Place the letters onto the transfer tape backward using the lines of the grid as your guide.

  • Place the transfer tape onto the front of the card. Rub over the transfer paper to make sure the letters stick to the card. (You can use a vinyl scraper tool.)
  • Gently pull back one end of the transfer paper and remove.
