With all the beautiful new Fall items on display everywhere you go,

I decided it was time to start working on my fall decorating.

I found this Harvest Pumpkin Hanging Wooden Circle Sign* at Dollar Tree*.

It measures approximately 11″.

I knew it would be a great piece to hang on a wreath

or to use in my Fall decorating.

I used acrylic paint to paint the pumpkin and leaves.

Just follow the etched lines of the leaves.

I blended my paint for a more realistic look.

Rub over the wood sign with walnut stain* or ink.

Use Mod Podge Satin Sealer* to give the sign a satin finish.

Lightly rub over the sign with an extra fine sanding block* to smooth the grains.

Gently rub over the design and remove the Vinyl Transfer Tape*.

How to make a Welcome Autumn Pillow using craft vinyl to make the Stencil

How to make a Welcome Autumn Pillow using a Craft Vinyl Stencil:

For my pillow, I used off-white fabric that I purchased at a garage sale several years ago. I cut two panels 15″ x 15″.
I created the stencil pattern using the “Welcome Autumn” SVG file and my Silhouette. I sized the image to fit onto my fabric panels.
I cut the image using StyleTechCraft Craft Vinyl*. (I originally tried using removable vinyl on my fabric, but it wasn’t quite tacky enough and a little hard to apply.)
To create the stencil, remove the letters and the leaves from the vinyl, leaving a reverse image.
Use a low-tack transfer paper to transfer the vinyl onto the fabric.

Make sure that the stencil is securely stuck to the fabric to eliminate paint seepage.
Place a piece of paper behind the fabric panel to protect your work surface.
Paint the leaves using a small paint brush and a variety of acrylic paint in Autumn colors.
Paint the words “welcome Autumn using black acrylic paint.

After the paint has dried, carefully remove the stencil.
I may have squealed a bit when I removed the stencil. It is perfectly imperfect, and I love how it turned out!
Iron over the fabric to set the design.

Sew the sides of the pillow and stuff it with fiber poly-fil*.

Directions:

Choose three pieces of coordinating 12″ x 12″ scrapbook paper to use in the frame.
Cut the background paper to fit inside of the frame opening. (mine measured 11 ½” x 11 ½”)
Cut and adhere a 4″ strip of paper to go horizontally across the center of the background.
Using an SVG File (from the Silhouette Store) and my Silhouette Cameo Electronic Die Cutting Machine*, cut the words “Thankful & Blessed” out of StyleTechCraft Champagne Luster Adhesive Vinyl*. I sized my words to fit on a 4″ x 5 ½” piece of mat board*.

Thankful & Blessed DIY Framed Inspiration

Cover a 4″ x 5 ½” piece of mat board* with decorative scrapbook paper.
To cover the white core of the mat board, edge the mat board using a bronze chisel point paint marker.
Cut a 4 ¼” x 5 ¾” piece of Bronze Luster Vinyl*. Apply the vinyl centered onto the strip
Adhere the covered mat board* centered over the Bronze Luster Vinyl*.

Thankful & Blessed DIY Framed Inspiration

Place a piece of vinyl transfer tape* over the vinyl words. Rub over the vinyl transfer tape* with a vinyl scraper tool to make sure the words have transferred. Lift and remove from the backing paper.
Apply words onto the covered mat board*.

Rub over the vinyl words with the scraper tool to make sure the words have transferred to the mat board.

Gently lift and remove the transfer paper.

DIY Felt Pumpkin Banner

How to make a Felt Pumpkin Banner for Fall.

This past weekend in the middle of my Paper Crafting Fall Home Décor project,

I was inspired to sew up this cute felt pumpkin banner. It didn’t hurt that I already

had the sewing machine out (because I had to mend the dog bed, once again).

Materials Used: (*affiliate links)

Kunin Felt Square Pumpkin Spice*
Kunin Felt Square Olive*
Kunin Felt Square Antique White* (2 pcs.)
M12654 Pumpkin Die Set
Crossover II Die-Cutting System*
Sewing Machine*
Gold Iron On Letters*
Iron and Ironing Board
1/4″ Wood Dowel Rod*
Decorative Trims
Small Wood Bead
Beacon Fabri-Tac Adhesive*

I used the Pumpkin Die from The Maker’s Movement to cut out the felt pieces.

The pumpkin die is used for cutting paper and not necessarily to cut fabric and felt.

While the die does not always cut through the felt, it did leave deep impressions.

I used the deep impressions as my guide to cut out the remainder of the shape.

(not recommended on smaller detailed pieces.)

Directions:

I used a pre-cut 9″ x 12″ Antique White Felt for the base of the banner.
On the bottom of the Felt, make a small mark at 4 1/2″ the center. Measure and mark on both sides, starting from the bottom, at 3″. Draw light lines from the 3″ mark to the center mark. Cut along the lines to create the bottom point of the banner.
Die-cut pumpkin pieces.
Place the pumpkin pieces and the letters on the banner to decide on the correct placement. (make sure to allow space up on top for the trim and the rod pocket)
Remove letters and set them aside.
Sew around pieces of the pumpkin using a sewing machine. (if you’re good at hand stitching, that would be even better)
Place iron-on embroidered letters onto the banner, cover with a thin cloth, and iron according to directions on the packaging.
Sew a piece of decorative trim near the top of the banner.
Cut a second piece of Antique White Felt the same size as the first.
Sew the top closed, leave a small 1/4″ border. Create a small rod pocket by sewing another seam at approx. 1 1/4″.
Sew around the remainder of the banner.
Create a small tassel using a wood bead and thin braided decorative trim. Poke a small hole on the point of the banner and tie the tassel. Because my Trim had a slick surface, I added a tiny bit of Fabri-Tac Adhesive* under the bead and at the knot that ties my tassel.

A Simple Fall Paper Crafted Home Décor Project.

It’s so much fun to decorate for Fall with its vibrant and colorful hues.

I’d love Fall even more if it didn’t turn into Winter after it was all over.

For the framed dimensional pumpkin, I decided to use my paper crafting skills

to make a fun and easy Home Décor for Fall.

Fall Paper Crafted Home Décor

Ivory Spray Paint*

Fall Paper Crafted Home Décor

Directions:

Cut two pieces of Double-Sided Adhesive Foam 5″ x 6″ and 4″ x 5″.
Cut two pieces of orange plaid paper from the paper crafting paper the same size as the foam.
Remove the protective coating from one side of the foam and place the paper onto the adhesive.
Place pumpkin die outlines over the foam and die-cut the shape using the Crossover II Die-Cutting Machine*. You may need to run the die back and forth a couple of times through the machine to make sure all the layers have been cut.
Repeat the process with the die-cutting of the stem and leaves.

Fall Paper Crafted Home Decor

For the words used on the front of the pumpkin, run a small strip of striped paper through the Xyron Sticker Maker Mini*.
Place the word dies onto the paper and die-cut. (you may want to put a small piece of tape on the dies to keep them in place)

I have a weakness for old frames and I love to pick them up whenever I see a good deal. (I think this one was a quarter.) It now makes the project an Up-Cycled project which makes it extra special.
Remove the glass and the backing from the frame and spray with ivory spray paint.

The frame measures 7 1/4″ x 7 1/4″ with a 6″ x 6″ opening.
Replace the 90’s picture with a 6″ x 6″ piece of coordinating scrapbook paper. (I placed the glass behind the scrapbook paper to give the project more stability. Also, I will have it if I want to reuse the frame for another project later.)
Remove the adhesive from the back of the pumpkin pieces and place it inside the frame.

Directions:

Lightly sand the pumpkin with the sanding block* to smooth out the grains in the wood. Wipe away dust.
Paint the pumpkin with Jack-O’-Lantern Orange* acrylic paint. Give the pumpkin highlights using Orange Twist* and Marigold* acrylic paint. Paint the top of the stem with brown acrylic paint.
Using an SVG File (from the Silhouette Store) and my Silhouette Cameo Electronic Die Cutting Machine*, cut out the words “hello fall” out of StyleTechCraft orange and red glossy craft vinyl.

Place the words onto the pumpkin using transfer tape*.
Rub over the words with a vinyl scraper tool to make sure “the words” have transferred.

To make the Dollar Tree Mini Pumpkin Clips* match the painted wood pumpkin, I decided to paint them using the same acrylic paint colors.
Remove the stem and the metal clip from the pumpkin.
Because the mini pumpkins have a slick surface, I needed to prime the pumpkins with multi-media paint first.
For ease of painting, place a bamboo skewer* in the mini pumpkin. Paint with multi-media paint. After the paint has dried, paint with the same colors used on the wood pumpkin.
Reinsert the stem. Glue the clip in place using the glue gun*.

Cut apart the Fall Floral Pick and glue the pieces onto the bottom of the pumpkin using a Xyron Multi-Stick Glue Gun*.

Create a simple bow using Ribbon and Twine and glue it onto the pumpkin.

Tie the finished pumpkin to the top of the wreath with twine.
Clip-on Mini Pumpkin Clips and insert fall picks.

I found this cute little ceramic cup on a recent trip to Hobby Lobby.

Buffalo Plaid Wood Slice Pumpkin

To get the color I wanted for the base of my pumpkin. I mixed Orange Twist and Jack-O-Lantern acrylic paint.
Paint just to the inside edge of the pumpkin slice. Leave the outer bark showing.

How to make a Buffalo Plaid Wood Slice Pumpkin

Add strips of painter’s tape onto the pumpkin to make stripes. Rub your finger over the tape to make sure that the tape is securely on the pumpkin and has no gaps.
Paint inside the stripes with a thin coat of white birch acrylic paint. Be careful not to apply the paint too thick. Only one thin coat of paint is needed.
Remove painter’s tape.
Allow paint to fully dry before continuing to the next step.

How to make a Buffalo Plaid Wood Slice Pumpkin

Rotate the frame 180° and apply the tape in the opposite direction. Make sure the tape is securely down.
Paint additional stripes with a light coat of dolphin (light gray) acrylic paint.

Remove the painter’s tape. Allow the paint to dry.
Lightly sand the wood slice. Sanding brings out the wood-grain and helps to hide any little imperfections.
Wipe with a clean cloth.

Cut a small 2″ piece from a tree branch to use for the stem.
I also used a “home” wood word picked up at the craft store for my pumpkin.
Hot glue the stem onto the top of the pumpkin. Hot glue the word “Home” on the front of the pumpkin.

How to make a Buffalo Plaid Wood Slice Pumpkin

To give my Pumpkin a little extra support while sitting on my mantel, I hot glued a small wood piece (cut from an old scrabble tray) to the back of the pumpkin. Because the wood slice is not perfectly round, you may have to offset it a bit.
Tie raffia around the stem and hot glue a small button bow with faux fall berries onto the pumpkin. You can find instructions on how to make a button bow here.

Faux Barn Wood Pumpkin

Add a little Joy to your Fall Home Décor with this quick and easy Fall Centerpiece.

I wanted to make something new to decorate my mantel for fall this year.

So…I made a quick (or not so quick) trip to my local Hobby Lobby.

While there, I found this unfinished wood pumpkin and a fall floral pick (among other things).

It went together really quick. I had it painted and put together in no time.

To be honest, the project didn’t turn out exactly how I envisioned in my head,

I think it turned out better. (my original thought was to paint it in soft muted fall colors)

The best part of the whole process was…

this simple wood painted pumpkin inspired my son to spend the next few hours arranging

and rearranging my mantels until he got them just perfect. (and that makes me happy!)

Joy Black Embroidered Letters
Beacon 3 in 1 Glue*
Wood Pumpkin (Hobby Lobby)
Deco Art Acrylic Paints: Coffee Bean*, Dark Scarlet*, Country Red*

Create the look of old barn wood using a wood pumpkin cut-out and acyrlic paint.

Directions:

Paint the wood pumpkin with brown acrylic paint. Make sure to get down into the grooves.
After the brown paint has dried paint the sections of the pumpkin with alternating colors.
Sand the pumpkin with a fine grit sandpaper* to distress and smooth the wood.

Glue the embroidered letters and floral pick onto the wood pumpkin with Beacon 3 in 1 Glue*.

Create a bow with sheer ribbon tied in the center with twine and glue onto the top of the pumpkin for the finishing touch.

Etching for Fall

I picked up this very old bottle at a yard sale…

The story with this bottle is that the guy bought a collection of old medicine bottles from the

early 1900’s that came from the old Bartonville State Mental Hospital.

If your not from around here, rumor is, the old State Hospital is haunted.

I believe the show “Ghost Hunters” did an episode there.

So… that and the fact that it was only $2.00 had me intrigued.

The old bottle was in rough shape.

When I tried removing the cork, it pretty much disintegrated on the spot.

To breath new life into the old bottle…

I masked the top and the bottom of the bottle with removable painters tape and added

After waiting 15 minutes, I removed the excess etching crème and put the excess back

in the container. I rinsed the bottle with warm water and let dry.

(make sure to read the instructions on the bottle of etching crème.)

To give the bottle a little Fall color…

I used a StazOn Ink Pad, Orange Zest* and rubbed the ink over the bottle.

The ink only adheres to the etched area.

To finish the look, I added a rub-on decoration to the front of the bottle with

a little raffia and key around the neck.

A new look for a very old bottle.
